Dr Cyrus Poonawalla would be one of the finest person to take over the reigns of this  ROYAL WESTERN TURF CLUB ------------------By.Muneer

Pune Race Course : Monsoon Racing in Pune for the 2019 season has reached the stage business   with only  of action to begin remaining, but one must spare a few minutes to reflect on the state of horse racing that the Royal Western India Turf Club is administering in these crunch times with finances dwindling and no one is really seriously looking at finding the solution to save horse racing, which has been bread and butter for many.

The annual election of the RWITC  are just  few’s months  away, but the new dispensation needs time to put house is order, and in that backdrop there is consensus among many whose bread depends on horse racing that No one but Dr Cyrus Poonawalla who can infuse a new life into horse racing in the country.

Dr Poonawalla’s philanthropy is by far unmatched and it wouldn’t be wrong to hope that the former RWITC Chairman whose love for horses is unparalleled would find a way to lift the horse racing to a new level. Consider the top trainer’s views: “unless we have someone very big as Dr Poonawalla who comes in and puts in money there will be no revival of racing. “On many occasions I have spoken that Dr Cyrus Poonawalla would be one of the finest person to take over the reigns of this club and pull the RWITC out of the mess that it is in because he has the financial resources,”ex. trainer C.D. Katrak stressed.

There has been suggestion from the Pune Racing Punters association that there is no better way to infuse finances in the RWITC coffers that rename the Pune or Mumbai Race Course after Dr Poonawalla’s late wife Villoo Poonawalla. An appeal to this effect has already been submitted to the State Government and the Central Government. Villoo Poonawalla’s love for horses and horse racing is well documented and she was the one who nursed Dr Poonawalla’s dream all through the years they  were   together. As they put huge money to help clean Maharashtra and Pune as this task is looked by none young Mr Adar Poonawalla.

So there is no one else?  What about government? Not to demean anyone.

Horses define derive humanity. Govt should consider taking over the whole scene and see if there is difference.

First time I visited Pune was in 1978 January 10th. I come from Ooty so the climate was so close to me. I just visited race course though there was no racing. Then from 2000 to 2012 I stayed in Pune.used to visit race course whenever find time. After 2012 till last month I'm frequent visitor to Pune race course every two months gap. I enjoyed visiting Pune course,it's excellent to have Veg Pulav, samosa Tea and mixed fruits.

From 1978 and 2019 there is vast difference in the course. Once it looked like English Race course. But now Pure indi. Dr. Cyrus and family taking excellent care but what to do some standard of racing is very low.

Only in Pune if we sit just opposite winning post we can hear rythematic hooves sound which cannot be hear any other course. Such a beautiful course. Long live Pune race course. It's scenic beauty surrounding.
