     1985 - 1986 Pune -  Northumberland Trophy

      1987 Pune - Northumberland Cup, L

      1988 - 1993  Pune - Northumberland Trophy, L

       1994 - 1995 Pune - Suresh Mahindra Northumberland Trophy, L

       1996 Pune - Suresh Mahindra Northumberland Trophy

        1997 - 2019 Pune - Suresh Mahindra Trophy

     Of course during its Mahalakshmi days place was called Bombay.

      The Suresh Mahindra Trophy is a very old race. It was first run at Mumbai in 1926 and was called the Northumberland Handicap. Most of our races follow the British pattern and this one was same as Northumberland Plate run at Newcastle (often called "Pitman's Derby") since 1833.

       The race was discontinued during the Second World War but revived at Pune in 1982. The name was changed in 1997 to Suresh Mahindra Trophy. It hs always been run over 3200 m.

       Staying races all over the world have small fields and are often won by same horses. Most important race of Royal Ascot is Ascot Gold Cup. In last 50 years, Yeats won it four times, Sagaro thrice and it was won two times by Le Moss, Ardross, Gildoran, Sadeem, Drum Taps, Kayf Tara, Royal Rebel and Stradivarius.

       Longest race in England is Queen Alexandra Stakes run over 4300 m. approx. It was won seven times by horse called Brown Jack.

You are very right.

Next year also the same bunch can run, because it is very difficult to maintain stayers.

Very long time back they introduced Sprinters cup and next year Mr. MAM announced stayers cup (3000M) then RWITC introduced this cup.

As you have mentioned it is better they wound pu this event 

and next year also they can repeat.

The repaired horses above 2000M cannot  stay in the last 400M.

ONE & ONLY:  FRIVOLOUS-WIN

After his run on 11th January 2018 (next day undergone Tie Forward surgery) and since then not won a single race.  Whereas other 3 horses won two races each during this period. Last edition of this race, FRIVOLOUS lost to RAEES by a Long Neck only (0.05 seconds only).  In that race, Frivolous took an awkward jump and lost around 4 lengths at the start, Despite that, Yash given a marvellos ride and exposed RAEES.   So for me FRIVOLOUS win only today.

As all the four horses are running again it is only those who observe the running of the horses carefully in the previous race can predict correctly.However,there is a general rule that in a Handicap Race a Winner can again prevail over the Placed horses.By this logic I feel Vulcan is the likely Winner.Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hope the authorities understand that there are no takers for a 3200M race anymore and reinvent this Race by reducing the distance. Or else it is a meaningless event

Vulcan will win simply back it.

Raees has won this cup back to back in 2017 and 2018, this time it would be from Adhirajsing's stable Square moon or Vulcan. My choice is on the former one

Suraj Narredu is nearing 2000 winners mark and will leave no stone unturned hence Frivolous and prior to that Deepesh Narredu mount -  very good double....WINS
