Kudos To The Handicapper

By Momin Parvez | 09-Dec-2019

Last Sunday at Mumbai races except for the first race all other six races the verdict at the final post was less than a length. It was all very scintillating and nail biting finishes. It reflects the high level of competition and good judgment on the part of handicapper while adjusting the ratings of the individual horses in accordance with their past performances.

Thus it proves that racing still has many charms and still can be called King of Sports.

@momin parvez, its irksome to note about bajrang singh and others:if my memory servers right bajrang singh was principal of riding school of HRC,only rwitc jockeys were mentioned there were many stalwarts like jagdesh riding @60 years alongside v.shinde (present day leo d'Silva was  a apprentice then) ,many topnotch jockeys from Bangalore,,Hyderabad like Yusuf Khan (Hyderabad aslam khader),Billy Mathews, sebastian,  others excelled.

I am not new to racing but surely new entrant to HT talks.

I was introduced to racing by my father in 80’s when Chaitanya Chakram ridden by Marshall defeated Capricorn guided by Vasant Shinde in the Indian Derby. The same season earlier Slipstream defeated Naukhal in Indian Oaks who was earlier winner of 1000 guiness. There were good sprinters at that time to name a few like Paper Tiger, Amorous Lord, Lucky Strike and Aalijanab.

And then within some passage of time there was a rift between Bezan Chenoy and Pesi Shroff regarding unsatisafactory ride by P Shroff on Class IV or Class V mount. They both parted ways but surely it wasn’t the fault in the jockeyship of Pesi. The horse was a dud which was later proven when still the horse didn’t perform to the expectation of Bezan.

I have seen Malesh rising and winning on horse known as Harvest Time when claiming allowances for four consecutive time. Aslam Kader deliberately falling from horse known as Roller Ball. He admitted openly before the stewards about the same. Have seen some mediocre jockey in the form of Ikram Khan, Bajrang Singh. Johnson. Some prominent like Mc Kinane, Barclay, evergreen R Corner.

If you would like to read more I can just go on. And it is foolish to advise anyone on horse racing. Just enjoy and go home happily and merrily. There will be misconduct and misdeeds where there is easy money.

But still the horse racing because it is colourful, electrifying and marvellous appeal the sport is known as King of Sports.
