Licensed bookmakers may not start their business from today.  However there are illegal bookmakers in the course and they are taking bets.  There are Whatsapp groups headed by bookmakers and they are also taking bets thru whatsapp.  This concept is catching up fast amongst punters and they are becoming members with such groups. You can even start with 500 and your money (winning) is instantly transferred to your account (if you want) or after the race.  Let us wait and see how lawmakers can stop these illegal operations.

Bookies>man,

Right.  I am neither pleased nor displeased to hear that bookies will take their own time to resume.

Around 50 to 100 bangalore based punters are now travelling to Mysore everyday.  Rest have either stopped betting OR betting at tote.

The fear factor has set in.  I agree with you 100%.

Bookies are now on bail.  The policemen in plainclothes did bet with bookies on that day.  And are fully satisfied that illegal betting is going on at BTC.  Armed with evidence, they arrested the bookies.

First thing: the BTC may not permit them.  And second thing: even if the BTC permit them, they may insist all punters to pay full tax as prescribed by the Law.

Punters are praying for safe and quick return of the bookies.  They (punters) are under the impression that the 10% tax will continue as before.  I do not think bookies will take bets at 10% tax.

The policemen may again pretend that they are punters and tender cash.  And, any bookie who falls for that trap, may languish in police custody with not even bail.  I do not think any bookie will brazenly take bets at 10% till their case is finalised one way or other.

Freedom is lot more costlier than the 10% loot.

Others,

Bookies are arrested for serious economic fraud.  It is reported that 96 lakhs unaccounted money was found in their possession.  This is for just 2 races on that day.  So make your own guess what is their annual turnover and how much tax they owe to Government.

Racefreak,

You are betting in lakhs.  O K.   Bet  1 lakh or 5 lakhs or 10 lakhs or even more.  Who is stopping you?  I never stand between you and the bookies!

I do not know the statistics.  But, the amount of horse race betting is peanuts when compared with the amount of betting in cricket.  People say betting in cricket is illegal.  We are hearing about such illegal cricket bookies being arrested by the police quite often.

Horse race betting is legal.  It is legal provided one pays GST and club commission along with his bet/s.  And it is illegal betting if one evades the tax on his bets  Here punters pay 10% premium on his bets.  Bookies coolly pocket that.

It may or may not matter to you whether I dislike bookies.  You dislike tote.  So you are welcome to say your negative thinking on totes.

Betting by paying 10% premium is illegal.  The Mumbai bookies and Bangalore bookies are now giggling before the police and judge.  Of course other center bookies are doing rousing business.  Out of 1000+ cricket bookies only a small fraction have been rounded up.  Similarly, out of around 200+  bookies only about 30 bookies are facing the music.

I am writing like this for more than 8 years.  Only a minuscule number of horse race punters who are betting with bookies are objecting.  There are severl thousand bettors who bet with bookies but are not caring to refute what I say.  They are ignoring my musings.  Deep in their subconscious, they know very well that what I say is 100% correct.

I do not question what you write.  So, it shall be better if you reciprocate by not questioning me.

This is too much,

You are speaking as if you have taken my my preachings too seriously and tired.

Of course I have spoken my observation.  If you find it boring, repetitive then just ignore it.  There is absolutely no need on your part to shout.

For your information, I am speaking the same lines for around 8 years!  And, will not dilute my stand in the near future!  I will continue to write with same tone and tenor.

So you are ready to recommend my name to the noble prize committee.  Glad to know that.  But, I have a serious doubt.  Those persons sitting in that committee may not be too enthusiastic to act on your recommendation.

"Have mercy on us"!  O K.  Let me just know what lines from my siders are merciless.  I dislike the bookies.  And I am expressing what I feel about them.  If you dislike tote, you are welcome to rant and rave about the tote.

One thing Mr "this is too much"!  Bookies are arrested and are released on bail.  If you want to gloss over this reality, I absolutely have no objection.

For the time being there are no bookies.  I have a gut feeling that they may not resume their function for some time.  In case I am proved wrong, (that is bookies resume in the net 2/3 days), I will definitely wish both bookies and punters good luck.

THE GST IS THE TAX LAW PASSED BY THE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT.  NOT BY RAGHAVAN.  AND CERTAINLY NOT BY THIS IS TOO MUCH EITHER.  AND, I KNOW ONE THING.  ALL LAWS PASSED BY CENTRAL GOVERNMENT ARE BINDING ON ALL INDIANS.

Better to shut down the race course in our country, instead of paying 28% or 33% or more GST. Govt itself is not sure where the country economy is going and it's fighting for pea nuts from racing. And we have useless management at race course who run the show for their whims and fancies, shut down the race courses for once and all.

Every one who is dependent on racing may struggle for next 2 to 3 years, but it will be better for them and their family.

I asked simple question. Names of bookies who were arrested. People here think they are  very intelligent. Giving answers on when they were released when they will operate stalls.

@Raghavan

Don't you ever get bored preaching morals and principles over and over again. Please take it easy and leave us to our fate.

Your righteous approach is unwarranted in racing field and please take a break for our sake.

We have become sick and tired of your ravings and rantings which has been going on for long.

We will definitely recommend you to the Nobel Peace committee and see that you are rewarded for being a very moral and principled guy in gambling.

Have mercy on us and spare us the ordeal until then.

Mad Max,

I dislike bookies.  The only reason I dislike them is because they take 10% premium on bets which shall be coolly pocketed by them.  (You can call that dislike; you can call that jealousy).  Otherwise I do not have any enmity with them.

But, wherefrom you got the mesage or rumor that bookmakers are likely to resume their business from 13th?

First thing:  They were arrested because they evaded GST.  So, they are out with stigma of 'released on bail'.  Will the BTC  permit them to run the business?  That is possible only if the Judge has permitted them to run the show.

second thing:  In case there is no bar on them & BTC also permits them :-

At least till the case is decided  (that may take one year, three years or five years), they will be strictly forced  comply with the provisions of GST.  That means around 33% tax.  I do not think punters will be pleased to bet paying full tax to the bookies.  And the bookies also may not like the idea of being arrested once again!

Bookmakers were not arrested because they were found urinating by the road side.  They were not arrested because they were smoking in public places.  They were arrested for serious financial offence.  I do not think they can just enter the premises and function just because they have been granted bail.

Of course, my understanding may be wrong.  There are 1000s of punters who are too eager to restart their betting with the bookies.

But, what I say is give credence to such rumors, messages only after being satisfied with ground reality.  That is wait upto 13th.  (three days away).

As long as betting is allowed in the  RACE COURSE , bookies  must be there,

But it is for the authorities  responsibility to see that they do business as per norms,

Methinks, atleast for some time, bookies will operate within the parameters set by the law, viz., 28% gst.   Of course, those with the muscle power to bet big, say in petis, will still be able to enjoy privileged treatment of 10% or less.

That is the information that I have gathered.
