On Line Betting

By Raghavan | 09-Jan-2020

I have learnt this much.

A small number (small means 50 or 500) of punters are placing their bets through mobile phone.  First, the bettor will deposit some 'X' amount through bank in favor of the bookie.  Betting will be accepted upto that amount only.  Not a paisa more.  (I do not know what is the minimum bet either). And at the end of the day the punter will be getting whatever amount is due to him.  (The bookie will cedit that amount to his bank account).

Is this legal?  Or only an informal arrangement between  the bookies and the concerned punter.  Frankly, I do not see much difference between a punter betting in a ring and a punter betting through mobile phone.  But, whether the turf clubs/Government has noticed this and has given their approval.

And, the next thing is, whether such business is run by a single bookie or group of bookies?

Right.  Such betting is illegal.  Even I also thought the same.

Harsh

You say the bookies indulge in such mischief but to compensate they pay big amount of stall fees.  I agree the tax is very high.  But the tax law are framed by the Central Government & I do not think the  Government excuses/pardons the bookies because they pay very high stall fees.

However, I agree that majority of bookies go scot free in spite of indulging in such open fraud on a daily basis.

Golden Viper,

You say some bookies closed their business.  Well.  I am the last person to shed tears for them.   In a business loss & gain is very common.  Bookies are always winners is the statement that proves correct in 90% cases.  I must say that among bookies also there are some terribly stupid ones.   Even more stupid than majority of the punters.

Dr Vijay Shankar,

You can surely bet in full comfort.  All you require is mobile phone.  But, as per the other posts in this thread such bets are also illegal.  In the ring no body can prove that you had your bets at half tax,  In case of betting through mobile phone, you will not have such luxury.

Muneesh,

Racing will be stale food without bookies.  No masala, salt, chillies!  Good one.  But, the price of masala, salt & chillies is astronomical with race bookies!

Racing becomes stale food, cooked without salt, chilli powder and masala paste if there are no bookies. The racecourse becomes a place of zombies get together without book makers.

Let us take it step by step.

It is legal but who is paying GST on it [thamn  it becomes illegal].

Dreams 11 a contest in cricket team won the GST battle no tax also legal.

Bit coin   trading has been banned in India but some are still carrying on.

Where the clubs have failed in to convince e thr govt to  GST  on   the winnings    all tote betting than becomes very attractive.

In delhi about 8 brokers have folded up in the last 3 years. So the charge that they are villains is baseless and not based on facts or any evidence.it is purely ""Hawa me chodena''.and personal bias.

Thank you all friends for your replies.

However, I desire to state that my query has been only partially answered.  So I will put that question again.

Whether the turf clubs know such things and have given their approval?

"If betting in the ring is legal...then betting online is also legal."  So said Mr Koti.  I think that the answer is not so simple.

Azim,

I have seen punters betting for "place" also.

Joker,

I dislike bookies.  That is not at all a secret.  But, in this particular post, I do not think I have made any reference (either good or bad) towards bookies.

Your affection towards bookies is also well known.  You bet with bookies.  Not only you.  80% to 90% of punters who enter race course will bet with bookies only.

Your post amuses me.  Well.  You are joker.  Always entertain horsetalk members with your buffoonery.

Respected all friends paying tax on betting to government is legal. Non paying tax is always illegal & it is not advisable to playing bets online anytime they may shut their business.

Examples are last time income tax raids on bookies at BANGALORE on illegal betting non paid tax & seized an amnt 95lacs from bookies and also similar incidents happend in mum & few more clubs. So is there any guarantee is there for payments chck & play

Bro even the bookies sitting in the arena are not legal except the totes. You know the reason. Because they dont charge you proper gst. They are supposed to pay gst 28% to the govt for each bet. They dont pay it because we do not want to pay it. Actually it is too much to pay.
I would suggest you to rather play with the online bookmakers (these mobile phones one). They dont charge any tax whatsoever on win bets and only charge 5% tax on your place bets (some of them doesnt bother about taxes at all).....

Any amount if you bet from outside is illegal. If you are not paying full tax and paying by half tax such betting is treated as illegal. If you bet with full tax and with proper proof is only will be treated as legal betting.

This trend is fast catching the fancy of punters. A bookie creates Whatsgroup, adds interested persons and Odds pics are posted in that group. Punters can place bet accordingly. There is a coterie working from Mysore race club which send odds pic of bookies continously for 15-20 times per race. This way punters are assured of latest odds

It is a Win-Win arrangement for both bookies and Punters in terms of business for former and easy betting facility for latter

Horse betting is legal only if tax is paid, this online bookies don't pay any taxes so their activities is illegal. But who will bell the cat?. 100's of Whatsapp group have mushroomed in last few months and it will be herculean task for authorities to curb it .Whatsapp Chats are end to end encrypted and difficult to be detected, only possible way is if the bookie is caught along with this Phone in action.

Of course official club bookies also resort to illegal half tax betting but they pay hefty stall fees running in several crores in a financial year helping the club to stay afloat in this difficult times, so they cannot be put at same level with those online bookies.

We cannot resist an idea whose time has come. This Whatsapp betting will flourish until a better alternative is available

Bro: grow up n posting reasonable postings like the Major n Abhishek Poman post which you will be respected.

By posting such swings of fancy ur creating trouble for the sports

Cheers

The Joker

Be indulged in ur Tanala/quinella/exacta n totes rather than slandering the sport n punter via such writeups
