Zervan, Imran Khan, Suraj, Zervan

By Raghavan | 15-Jan-2020

Zervan won 1st, 4th & 5th legs.  Imran khan & Suraj won 2nd & 3rd legs.

5 people had cleared jackpot at Chennai.  They were given grand pongal gift by Madras race Club.  (MRC added 7 lakhs to the jackpot pool).

My congratulations to the jackpot winners at Chennai. Of course I also appreciate those who had cleared the 1st four legs.

I had Cavello velace & Rutbedar.  Of course, Good fortune, Sir Supremo & Atacama was not nominated by me.  The cost of my jp ticket was 360/-.

At BNG, the jackpot Rs. 1,65,000 was carried over.

Just I want to ask.  Whether the jackpot was such a difficult thing today?  Of course, I lost.  So also all the jackpot hunters at BNG.  There are big big tipsters in Indiarace horsetalk.  I hope they will reply to my question.

The purpose of my post is to highlight the fact that you CAN NOT win in horse betting.  Of course, there will be some exemptions.  Like Rajinder Krishna (since deceased) who won 46 lakh jackpot during 70s.

Glasgow Prince had opened a thread.  About the accuracy of systems.

I think race punters should stop searching for that elusive system/formula.  They will definitely get positive results if they instead search in a dark room  a  black cat that is not there.

A 100/- roll on 5 winners piloted by Zervan would have given more than 25 lakhs to the punter.  (For cigarettes, a man spends more than that amount daily). It is such sweet thoughts that drags a punter to the race course.

Of course, a punter will be disillusioned within 2-3 months. If he quits betting then and there, he is the chmpion bettor.

First it is the thought of recovering either in full or at least in part our losses in the first 2-3 months that will compel us to visit the race course.  The losses just multiply.  You all would have certainly heard about Abhimanyu.  He was knowing how to enter Chakra vyuha but was not knowing how to come out.

And, there is virtiually no escape.  It is loss...loss and loss.  Once or twice in a month you may win back what you lost in two/three days betting.  The money that you lost in the remaining 25 days is gone...gone for ever.

So, you can do just one thing.  Bet low...Cut your losses.  There are plenty of great great champion bettors who will prove that it is possible to win in races.  (that too even after betting in all races!).  I wish such champions best of luck.  Let them win trillions.  But do not get carried away by their arrogant and irresponsible talk.

Keep aside one or two lakhs per year purely for betting and never bet more than 1 or 2 percent of your cash balance from that kitty.  Do not bother if you lose that amount.  And, when you win enjoy that bonus.

Godzy, who said liquor was served for all in the members enclosure ? I was in the enclosure paying RS.120/. Even water was not given. An open place in the members stand was converted to a closed a/c  lobby where invites of other turf clubs and outstation trainers/owners were seated and served to them.

Respected Godzilla Sir,

You took a wise decision... as you said one has to enjoy a peaceful and tension free life in their lost leg (racing language)... No HTsians never forget your name even after 10 years also... You enjoyed 5 decades... Whether you get profits or lossess it's secondary... Very few are like you Sir... Be happy Sir... but whenever you have time even at least for fun sake try to post your selections...It's not for you ... for the sake of racing lovers... Thank you Sir...

      With regards... Siva Ramakrishna.

Nice write up.  I have given up Racing simply because I don't need money.  Instead I am enjoying last leg of my life by visiting various places and also  temples.

Will be in touch with you sir.

Hi Godzy,

Incredible ! I just could not believe that you had given up racing altogether. But really feel glad to know about your decision. You are the same person who once asked me to 'wear bangles and sit at home if you don't play racing'. Just want to know how many pairs of bangles did you purchase and have you also moved from shirt & pant to salwar & kameez? Take it lightly my friend. You have taken a wise decision. All your claims that you earn a lot from your business (which may be true and if so you must have also lost a major portion of that in racing all these years) and that you always make profits have turned out to be a dampsquib now. I am still not criticising you but a gentle reminder of the 'Past Arrogant Godzilla'. It was racing that made you behave so. My best wishes to you for a happy family life. Please keep visiting here as you find time. After five years of no-racing, I only know how cheerful and tension-free I am. Looking forward to more rail birds getting freed from the 'jail' soon?

IIM blue,

28% GST is the legislation pased by the Government.  And, everyone has to abide by that.  But, no one is caring about that.  Of course, there is no escape for people who bet small amount (less than 1000) at tote.

Because of very high GST, many people who were betting at tote have stopped betting.  So..., only on this count, let us welcome and cheer at what Government has done!

Kolramsri,

So at maximum 10% of his income can be wagered.  You have a point.  But, I must say it is not practicable for a punter to maintain that much discipline.  He should be having an income of 20 lakhs per year so that he can bet up to 2 lakhs.  You are right.  But, I am more liberal in that aspect.

Sivaramakrishna,

There are many people who have curtailed their betting habit.  A side effect of 28% GST.  Anyway, the exotic & multileg pools give you better returns.  Of course, you should identify the correct numbers.

I bet on forecast.  Strike rate?  I am more than hapy if I can achieve 15%.

Godzilla,

My salutes to you.   My betting has come down considerably. Let me see whether by this year end it will be zero.

Vijayakumar,

Hyderabad 13th, Chennai 14th & 15th.

Bookies gained heavily.  And this is the news practically 28 days in a month.  Just two days punters will see some cash in their hands.

So, the equation is,

Almot everybody who bet on horses are losers.  But, we come across many crackpots who shout that they have won.  O K.  Let them shout.  This is a free country.

Raghavan sir

Nice write up.  After attending 5 decades of Racing,  I called it a day 3 months back.

However,  I am in touch with Racing regularly thanks to indiarace. come. The results are really shocking. No punter can make any money,  if such racing continue to happen.

I came to know free liquor was served at MRC that too imported,  during Derby day to all Member enclosure punters.  Bookies might have foot the bill,  no wonder looking at the results.

AGREED SIR, FROM TOP TO BOTTOM. AND BOTTOM PART LURES ME MORE INDEED..

BUT BUT BUT.

HAD WRIGHT BROTHERS THOUGHT THE SAME WAY, WE MAY NOT HAVE SEEN AEROPLANES. WHO IN THIS WORLD HAD THOUGHT THAT YOU CAN MAKE A HUGE MULTI TONNER CRAFT TO FLY. AND MANY MORE INVENTIONS TO ADD ON LIKE THAT.

SIR, IF SOMEONE IS RUINING HIS FAMILY'S FUTURE, HE MUST QUIT RACING. YOU MUST NOT SACRIFICE YOUR FAMILY FOR RACING. IF YOU CAN PAY FOR YOUR KIDS SCHOOL FEES AND YOU WANT TO MAKE A FORTUNE OUT OF RACING THEN PLEASE AVOID.

IN SIMPLE WORDS, IF YOU ARE FOND OF RACING AND YOU ARE NOT HURTING OR KILLING OR RUINING YOUR FAMILYS DREAMS, YOU CAN ALWAYS ENJOY RACING.

RACING IS GOOD BUT NOT AT THE COST OF YOUR FAMILY'S FOOD. I HATE TO SEE PEOPLE GOING TO RACE COURSE AND BEGGING THERE. HATE TO SEE PEOPLE WHO HAS VERY LIMITED RESOURCES AND THEY GO TO RACING TO MAKE FORTUNES. HATE TO SEE THOSE WHO MAKE 300-500 A DAY AND GOING TO RACE COURSE ADN LOOSING ALL THE MONEY THEIR. IN THE EVENING THEY BEG FOR MONEY TO BUY A BOTTLE OF DESI.

Dear Mr.Raghavan,

I concur with your views in tote.. Whatever intelligent one may be, he cannot redeem his past losses in racing..if he still persist in racing, he will certainly acculate debts rather than assets. His name will be tarnished among his friend and relatives. Soon he will cut a sorry figure and loss his self respect in the Society

What happened in MRC derby day.  All the favourites have collapsed like a house of cards. Not even a single favourite obliged. Those who played SOUTHERN RULER have burnt their fingers heavily.

Even the five jackpot winners are also not the public but they are Probably among the trainer's, jackys and owners and stewards of the MRC..

The more you believe racing , the more you will be deceived.

With 28% GST plus club commission deducted from the divisible pool,  the dividends we get are next to nothing. Earlier playing one proper long shot would have sustained me for weeks but no more. It equations have turned against the hapless punters with these deductions. I see no reason why one should attend races.

Krish,

I have conveyed one thing.  YOU CAN NOT WIN IN HORSE BETTING.

I have also cautioned the members not to be misled by bragging masters  with truck loads of superiority complex.

S Kumar & Ravi,

It is immaterial whether the winner invested 5/- or 720/- or 4k.  He has won big.  My congratulations to the winner.

Small still poor punter:

I have mentioned that 1 lakh to 2 lakh keeping in mind only those small time punters whose salary per month is 30k to 50k.  I do not think, that much amount will be a problem to them.

Chennai and Bangalore punters are the smartest??  I always consider Hyderabadis to be much much sharper than Chennai/BNG punters.

Call it a day?  Of course there may be many punters who might have stopped betting.  But for every such punters there are 100s who are continuing with betting on horses even though they have understood that  race betting is not at all viable.

Raghavan. Allotting two lacs amounts to nearly 40%of the Majority of punters' annual income. Be realistic in advising

I think it should not exceed one-tenth of his DAILY income.

sir, hyderabad jackpot on 13th january solved by one punter. its an old man who purchased jackpot ticket from musheerabad tote center and  i've heard from my friends that man never bought a race paper. (and my friends also told me that old man spent only 5 rupees on jackpot ticket. unbelievable)

In one of my whatsapp group the winning tkt is forwarded to all of us and infact he had 4 consolations which itself was above 80K in all for 30 % and 7.94 Lacs i think was towards the 70 %... He purchased the ticket at Rs 720/- in hyderabad .. which Tote doesnt matter at all.

Regards

Dear Raghavan Sir,

Always you are an eye opener about Horse Racing... I respect and agree with your words... You are 100% correct... Some persons may not agree with you just because of their ego...

An average knowledge punter who goes to the race course regularly with Rs.1000/- and playing different pools definitely get loss... He may win 2 or 3 days in a month... but overall he get lossess... This is my personal experience too...

From 2012 to 2019 nearly more than 7 years I had my experience attending races... To be frank if I calculate all my lossess it's more than 7 to 8 lakhs... Can I recover my loss?... I know the answer... It's impossible... Just to entertain races is a false statement... To be frank I am a looser always... At times my picks comes true with big forecast and quinella pools, but not always... I am sure even any person can check their personal investment per 1 month...

For last many months very oftenly I visited the off-tote centre... I controlled my self and the lossess...

Racing is fun... but it's a costly entertainment... It's not to make money... It's not that much of easy... I don't want to differ with the Horse Racing lovers, it's my personal opinion...

Raghavan Sir nowadays rarely I am going on special events... Your words impressed a lot and followed... ofcourse I too love racing by watching videos regularly in India Race...

      With regards... Siva Ramakrishna...

Mr Raghavan,

A very meaningful and need-of-the-hour post.

As regards Derby day races in Chennai yesterday, I wonder if the five people who called the JP correct to take home close to Rs.2 lakh each, were 'aware well in advance' of some of the serious upsets? (Many of us know that was how Chennai races were being conducted until a few years ago, isn't it?) Chennai and Bangaluru punters are among the smartest in the country for a very long time. That not even a single person could crack the JP in Bangaluru yest comes as a big surprise.

I think the induction of M A M R Muthiah as MRC Chairman has done a lot of good to the racecourse activities. I saw him speaking on www.madrasraceclub.com. He appeared full of confidence and promises to take the Centre to greater heights. Definitely Chennai racecourse can soon go on to become the best one in India.

About betting, you know sooner than later punters are bound to call it a day. How long you can keep chasing your fortunes at a wrong place? No genuine happiness can be obtained by spending your hard-earned money.

About 90% of the punters in India belong to middle class. Then, how do you expect them to reserve one to two lakh rupees every year for racing? I think wisdom will prevail on all those who continue to be full-time punters.

 @raghavan,

Sorry, what is your message in long write up? I am still not able to figure out the same. One thing I noticed in the last 4-5 decades you have reduced the winning of late Rajendra Kishan by 2 Lakhs. Thanks.
