Is A Class I Race Really Different From Cl B For Punters?

By Smart-still-poor-punter | 17-Feb-2020

Hi Friends,

Different people have different mindset, and that very much applies for punters.

I had seen a large number of punters avoiding playing a Class B race, while there are others who don't bother much about a Cl I race too. Why so? The answer is simple. According to them, upsets are more common in such races because even the handicapper gets 'injured' in classifying horses either at the top or in the bottom. Very interesting, isn't it?

However, racing history shows upsets are happening everywhere. In a Class II or III too. Similarly, there are many who advocate playing only Classics. But, if you go through recent records, even Classic races had proved nightmare for punters.

It really doesn't matter from which Class you pick your animal (and it doesn't even matter how many horses are entered in a race) because all you need to be sure is about the 'chances' of your choice? Upsets had occurred even in a match race.

For race-goers, whose only happiness is in winning, classes or categories hardly hold value. It is very difficult to predict in advance if a particular day's card is good or bad. That's the major reason why punters return with holes in their pockets because before the start, any race is worth playing.

In fact it is other way round.I and v class races are best handicap wagers because of lucrative odds.

Class 1 horses normaly come with solid performances so one has good deta to analyse where as class v races require totaly different set of skills and thorough knowledge of local centers small trainers history.

Dear SSPP,

Thanks. A few random thoughts on the point raised by you..

One cannot and should not underestimate the extent of ignorance a racing punter has when he walks into the premises of a racecourse and begin his life as a punter. Much later, strangely enough in most cases, that is even a few decades into this game, the level of understanding may just have improved marginally. That, as a consequence, is surely a sad state of affairs, the punter finds himself in, but continues to plod on as if there is no life beyond racing.

He has practically tried to follow all methods of finding winners, the craziest to some with racing substance, like pedigree, handicapping, speed rating, form, class and as some may call it mumbo-jumbo like Astro-numerology. Examples of craziest methods are as many as there are punters, so I would leave it at that. But I cannot help giving one of my friend's favorite theory of picking winners of a particular owner(Now deceased). She would be wearing blue, he would shout with excitement as he ran to put his wager. Won quite a few times. He stopped doing that and when questioned, meekly mentioned his chance meeting with her driver. Apparently, the driver informed him that he has never seen memsahib wearing any other color in his twenty years of loyal service!

It is quite common to hear weird reasons for the selection of a horse by even seasoned racegoers, thereby exhibiting their ignorance of the basics. It is another matter that sometimes they are proven right for reasons one can only call it the glorious uncertainties of racing. Classics or Class 5, does it really matter?

Do I have any solution? None Maybe join SSPP in God's own country! That would be something. Oh, did I say that? Sorry, where is my Old Monk? Need to calm my nerves.

Good Day.

Dear Sspp ,

The class v and class l races are comparable if we analysed a lot. Both classes most of the participants are aged.

No of promotees and demotees available

Always bears an open look

To find a good fluke in class v , we must keep record of 2/ 3 years , but in class 1, max 4 seasons.

Horse wt,jockey carrying wt is no matter for winner as they run through many seasons.

Best bet odds in class v is between 1.2 to 2.3 ( as per my record anybody can dis agree)

Best bet odds for class 1 is 0.9-1.6 ( as per my records)

If any horse trying in class v with different distance watch for it.

Busy in duty will continue later

SSPP,

A person who has given up punting why bother about class 1 or VB ?

A person who wants everyone to quit racing, why recommend Chennai and Ooty races ?

SSPP,  I think you must be living in a place where there is no racing activity !

Sorry  part one missed due to me  pressing the wrong key.

Welcome to  the positive world of racing  SSPP. I am happy to see a change in stance from negative vibes to plus ones. Racing is gambling now and like  other such one has its share of risks.

it is upto every one to decide his losses  and ability to absorb them.

contd    go is back,

In MUM  80 % of owners totally rely on stake money.  Vijay shirke is on record  stating how he gave his share of GST  after his record wins in Pune season,

grades races offer big money as compared to handicap ones. Example

Stake money rs 20 lakhs 2nd  place rs 4 lakhs against handicap ones around rs 1,8 to 1,4 lakhs for a win. Si it is lke winning 4to 6 races with one win only

The owners of War hammer are small time ones with no big contacts yet  they have won  even in MUM ,shows zero made up races.

5A &B  offer very poor stake money  ,hence some owners  here are forced to bet .some win some lose because more than one is trying

So I will still stick to graded races for big bets.It is safe   handicapped ones with better chance to win.

Those who advocate playing only classics say so because they believe that the 'intent' of all connections is positive in classics and  a punter doesn't have to deal with the factor of 'negative intent'. Those who suggest avoiding bottom class races do so because they believe that the bottom class consists mostly of unreliable horses, repair cases, inconsistent runners trained by unpredictable trainers and so on and hence predicting a winner becomes even more difficult. Punters use these thumb rules just to improve their strike rate. It has to be recognised that fluke or favourite winning is a different matter.

My dear SSPP

I really appreciate your interest in analysis and updating yourself with the latest trend and mingle with the punters  as their Guardian Angel giving warning from time to time since last three or 4 years. Once again I appreciate your interest.

Now coming to your point Racing always involves Risk. Nobody can give 100% guarantee for a Horse to win.  Win depends many factors Form of the Horse, Jockey to guide the Horse,  Above all will and intention of the owners and Trainers. Now Bookmakers also have a hand.

In the light of above lines Punters are really in pathetic condition especially lower class or middle class who have very little control about their addiction.

Sometimes it is possible gurantee upto 95 or 98% sure based on the previous performance and the form other horses taking part in the Race. For example  INCA  at Calcutta or NISSUS Last Sunday House of Diamonds - Hyderabad

We must have patience to wait for such occassions. Unfortunately 99% play all Races and as a result end in loss or rather Heavy Loss.

In classic or Class 1 if the winner is very popular or betting goes beyond limit if the owner feel that it is not worth winning at a very low odds then manipulation comes in. If the betting with 40 paise is not worth punters should look for a place instead of backing with 40 paise Horse howver good or popular it may. So all these things can not be taught one should learn himself or herself by experience

One should decide before entering the course what he wants to play and should not change his decision unless otherwise due to change of jockey.

Although people may not agree I bet only on the basis of RIDER and I give importnce to jockey i mean frequently winning Jockey like Trevor or Sura Nareddu or Sandhesh I do not play others. My betting amont also will be small max 10K not above. Even though I may incur a loss I do recover without changing my mind and policy.

Once again I appreciate your continuous interest please keep it up. Betting is not essential to watch a Race. I do watch many Races without betting because I could not pick up correct winner or even place also in many Races. I bet only when there are fair chance. Even the I do incur loss for example Trevor did not win yesterday in the econd Race  (Galloping). The horse had good form and credentials to win but came second due to unknown reasons. But I am taking it with sportsman ship with the full confidence that Trevor will win again soon or later.

Best Regards
