Re: Kangra

By Maj. S. Nargolkar (retd.) | 19-Feb-2020

Mr. Marthand Singh Mahindra, owner of KANGRA, has brought to my notice that KANGRA had won the Mysore 1000 Guineas, Gr.3 and then gone on to win the Invitation Cup. I had missed it out in my article INVIATION CUP BREAKS NEW GROUND.

I am grateful to him for correcting the omission which is regretted.

It is not winning prety. It is WINNING PRETTY.

Actors Sanjay and Feroze never owned a horse together. Sanjay and his wife owned Prince Khartoum, whereas FerozeKhan's Horse is Winning Prety, which won Bangalore Fillies championship, Bangalore 1000 guineas, and Indian 1000 guineas. All in the year 1995

@ Abbas J. Record book says.

HARD HELD 1965 foal ( HARD RIDDEN out of  ABEYANCE )

Owned by Mr & Mrs. Mahmood Ali

HARD HELD won the Indian 2000 Guineas

Ridden by F.FLANNERY

Trained by S.M. SHAH

This is the only classic won by HARD HELD.

@ Eruch

I am afraid that I can provide no further details. What I have mentioned in the article was taken from another article written by me for RACING WORLD in 2005. I was then working with the Stud Book Authority of India and had vast reference material at hand. I can't be sure, but I probably took the details from the General Stud Book.

Dear Maj.

The article on Mysore was fascinating.  However, i cannot seem to locate Sugar Apple on the usual pedigree sites.   Given the connection to Rosedrop, surely he would be included.  Are there more details that you can kindly provide?

Thanks, Eruch

Hello All,

To, R.V.Ramanan Sir, I think actor Sanja Khan and Feroz Khan won the derby by the name of Prince Khartoum at Mahalaxmi
Race Course .

Feb 06,
1972    PRINCE KHARTOUM
(Rock of Gibraltar
– Pink Bamboo by Elopment)    Greenacres Estate & Agri Farm    W Swinburn    R R Byramji    2:39    1,11,470

And SM SHAH WON THREE DERBIES  NIJINSKY 1967

OUR SELECT 1968

BRIGHT HANOVER 1971

SM SHAH TRAINER used to train Actor Mehmood Horse name Hard Held won but I don't know this is derby or not.

Rock Witness ( Rock of Gibraltor out of Star witness) owned by Mr& Mrs. Mahmood Ali, won the Bangalore Fillies Championship in the year 1972. Later She won the Indian oaks in the year 1973. I think Mahmood did not win any derby in Bangalore. Corrections are welcome.

@ s-s-p-p

     You are correct.

@ R.V.Ramanan

Checked the records but could not find a horse owned by actor Mehmood Ali winning the Bangalore Summer Derby.

Major,

In the article, under sub-title "Notable Horses" while talking about three horses - Elusive Pimpernel, Continual and Sir Cecil - you have used the term "former" to refer to EP in the subsequent sentence. Usually, "former" is used only to compare between two things, isn't it?

Major sir could you please recollect the name of the horse which won  the Banglore  summer derby  owned  by actor Mehmood in early seventies? I shall be grateful.

Major your article on Mysore race course is excellant. Dr.MAM lived this center and used to send his stable under Foley. Infact D. MAM achieved his 100th classics with Queen of Hills here only. I have seen Maharaja used to visit Mysore and Ooty race course occassionally. But one thing about Mysore race course is its splendid sprawling scenic beauty down the Hills is livable and enjoyable to watch racing in a very cool atmosphere. Mysore what I seen in 70s and last month when I happened to be there has changed a lot like any other city in India. But the course remain intact like in English periods.hope  punters  all over India come to see this magnificent Invitation week end in Mysore. As you said War Hammer is my choice for Invitation cup.
