Splendid Show - Congrats Mysore Race Club

By S C Sharma | 02-Mar-2020

After many years I visited Mysore to witness last  weekend’s  Invitation races and to refresh my old memories and to meet some of my old friends and returned with some satisfaction, though results of many races were not as per my expectations and expectations of many experts and media. Out of three bets I selected and played was successful in only one but not disappointed much and not disgraced, as I know  the uncertainties and complexities of racing very well particularly on such big occasions  and the fact that certainties do not exist in racing cautioning every time to all be within limits and don’t cross the limits. Number of factors play their role and horses can loose of over confidence, larceny, imperceptible changes in horse condition, dislike for weather, surface, track or penetrometer reading and jockey’s inept handling or error in judgement of pace or bad racing luck etc etc and lot more.....

Leaving all such things and controversies and speculations behind I don’t want to take away credit from Mysore Race Club and wholeheartedly wish to congratulate them for smooth conduct of such big  show, hastle free, injury and accident free show. They welcomed the visitors with Mahalaxmi motichur dry fruit contain laddus at entry ticket point and arranged famous and historic folk dances with music and band and welcomed and entertained the visitors. Despite all fears and doubts bookies operated as usual and sufficient number of tote betting counters were available for punters and visitors and dividends were released with no delay after all clear. E vehicles arranged for officials, sr. citizens, handicap persons and for ladies and children. The entire premises looking and maintained clean and good facilities of catering in hygienic conditions made available. Rates were reasonable and preparations  were good and tasty . Wash rooms/ Rest rooms were bad- smell- free and neat and clean. Club also  maintained the race  track and surrondings in good condition. Smooth conduct of such big events with 16 races during weekend with seizable number of runners and all India participation is a big compliment for Mysore race club as they conducted this type of event first time after becoming sixth independent turf authority of our country and this will really boost their confidence and they are bound to improve their standards further.

I wish to mention the initiative of Mysore race club for allowing of free access and facility to carry mobile phones anywhere in club premises without any charge will also go in a long way and this move should be appreciated by one and all. Entry ticket charges  even for this big occasion was at lowest level. Other race clubs should take this example and make necessary changes in entry ticket charges and mobile charges rules  and make uniformity on par with Mysore race club. Present disparity in this matter is really causing very much inconvenience and hardship to many punters/ visitors.

Finally I do agree that  those visited with high expectations and invested heavily suffered losses and disappointed very much  and those indulged in small bets or indulged in tote bettings enjoyed the event and the weekend and not disappointed very much. Wishing everyone  involve yourself in enjoying by remaining well within limits . Show will go on, show will continue....whether on our expected lines or not....

Hi all

First things first, nice write up sir. You taking time to do this will benefit a lot of people in the long run. Anyone can say it was not clean racing just because they lost, but overall the club (mrc) did a fantastic job. The good horses did a good job, period. A lot of the trainers brought their stock particularly keeping this event in mind, or Trafalgar, adjudicate, corfe castle, and multifaceted. Barring multifaceted in sprinters there was no big drama in any of the races. All said and done, kudos to the trainers and jockeys who won and hats off to Mysore race club for doing a splendid job in it's first attempt itself.

SSPP :  You have to understand  that race results cannot be as per our will and  wish or on as per  our expected lines always  and I explained the detailed reasons  for this in my first para itself. I believe you are not  retired from racing, ( though it is not my concern )  but praying and advising one and all always to quit racing,  whereas it is the  decision of individuals to continue or quit matters most.  Investment in racing carries maximum risk is a well-known  fact and known to one and all.  Even after continuous loss if some one is continuing racing than what can you or I do ?   Pl continue your preachings  to come out of racing  to all  and If it gives you satisfaction and if punters are adhering to your valuable advises it is  really good .

It was wonderful arrangements by MRC. I visited in regular season long time back. Except picturque course nothing spl there. Even horses doesn't have capacity to stand with horses of other centers.  But during weekend entire atmosphere were changed. Mr.Rao and his team did exceptionally well organising this mega event. Everything is in place starting from entrace TKT to tote, declaration, presentation though no big celeberaties present they managed huge crowd.

As far racing is concerned we must understand that the home stretch s very short and horses accustomed to long stretch and take little bit time to settle wud not find this course suitable. Unless Jockeys took the horse in front immediately after start and stretch upto winning post only possible for outside participants. But in such scenerio it shd have stamina to overcome such racing tactics. I fact Suraj tried this type of racing on Multifaceted and Star superior but both failed coz of heavy pressure at closing stages. Spritners, Stayers, Invitation winners are not predictable bunch. No one can zero it on one horse. But if they select from 15 horses they wud have certainly these horses in 1,2,3,4 choices. Same method applicable for all horses ranbin Invitation week end. Except  samar horse others defenetly wud have your first three horses choices. So why blame stewards, owners,Jockeys, trainers? We tend to play on horses on which majority played. Bcoz we doesn't want to belive in our own choices. It's fate of every punters. How cud one miss Traffalgar? Does this horse no merir?

So stop blaming. Choose best horse in the field. Find out who wud be major threat to that. Keep both in jackpot. U wud win jackpot everyday.

@ S C Sharma : It's true that Mysore Race Course is the most picturesque in India but unfortunately It's the most undependable centre too. The Invitation weekend races were run beyond the imagination of a majority of loyal punters that not even 50% of them will dare to visit Mysore again for the sake of betting, be it Invitation or any other race. If we compare what happened here with the Invitations of the recent past, we will know how horrible the affair had been conducted. It was more or less like 'daylight robbery'?  If bookies' homes are to be raided, crores of rupees can be easily unearthed....most of them unaccounted and cursed punter money? Many senior punters keep advising for limited investments, but what is the limit, no one knows. Celebrated race days like these prompt race-goers to invest more, isn't it? I can easily feel how many genuine punters would have got terribly frustrated after attending this weekend race. It has to be seen if a shabby centre like Mysore, which looks highly unfit for reasonable racing, should be allowed to conduct such prestigious races in the future. Even otherwise the performance in this centre throughout the year is horrifying and the punters could have been spared at least during these two days. God save racing ! God save punters !
