Golden Viper,
The present rate of GST is 28%. In addition there is club commission 5%.
Those who bet at tote are paying this much. There is no escape. The system first allocates the GST & Club commission from your bets and release the balance amount only to be distributed to punters.
The punters desire Government to relax this gst to 10%. It is a different matter that Government throws such requests to dust bin.
You are such a senior punter. The least you could have done is to avoid such post altogether
I speak with the understanding that you bet with bookies. To you it does not matter even if the GST is jacked up to 38% or 45%. (Of course after ameding GST rules to that extent).. You people are all happily paying 10% tto the bookies! Not one paisa to the Government.
If the Government taxes non veg meals in restaurants at 200% also, I will not criticise. I will object if they increase taxes on veg foods even by 5%.
Of course my apologies if you are paying the prescribed tax while betting.
The Government loses some revenue if the tax is reduced! What an illogical assessment? As far as I can see, such reduction in tax will increase the betting at tote and the Government revenue will be at least trebled.
Do not bring in examples of MPs, MLAs who contribute 30% of their salaries to the PM cares fund. Do not cite the big donations from the celebrities to impress that the tax paid by punters is negligible & any request to reduce the tax will reflect the narrow mindedness of punters.
Punters who bet at tote are virtually roasted because of the GST rates.
Racing industry was in difficult times even earlier to coronavirus scare. There used to be 9 or 10 races in a day for races at Mumbai/Pune. But today there are 6 or 7 races in a day. And out of this 3 or 4 races will have just 5 (or less) runners.
Race days lost due to curfew/lockdown: Bangalore 3, Chennai 2, Kolkata 3, Mumbai 9 & Delhi 16 (up to 30/4/2020). Total 33 race days. And there would have been 8 race days at Ooty. Compute your own notional loss/gain. For majority of punters the curfew is a blessing in disguise.
