How Can The Rwitc Chairman Be Optimistic About Upcoming Pune Racing Season?

By Shrikant N | 18-May-2020

From outside the Pune Race course,it looks very nice and pictureous,Race track looks lush green, and pleasant english weather...But situation inside the public area is very hazardous. Almost everywhere  red spots of Gutka spitting are visible... In the  Betting ring area people's are spitting everywhere and also Smoking .... Behind the Bokkies stall no space or collecting payment....Even very less sitting arrengement, most of the punters are standing in group....1st and 2nd floors are closed for Punters( only for members) .No paddock stand..People's are spitting in Drinking water sink...Water block in Bookies area after heavy rain...Toilets area is also not properly clean...MY REQUEST TO PUNTERS PLS TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF,  AND COMMUNITY WELLNESS .THE PRESENT SCENARIO ( CORONA)  IS NOT SO GOOD  .

Of course everyone knows that nothing can last forever. So many epidemics and pandemics have come and gone and this one too will go away its a matter of time So i urge everyone to remain positive and calm.

Bad times too have their period

At present the situation in PUNE is not so good...yesterday city sees highest single day Death count at '14' due to virus. And cases cross 4000...Most of the areas in city  already sealed, and there are chances of more peak in June- July. There is restrictions on Social gatherings. SO early start of Racing looks difficult.Bottom line is "COMMUNITY WELLNESS"

Thank you  Sam and Cruise_ Bangalore.

Yes I remain optimistic. I reiteriate my assessment that the coronavirus is fast retiring, and that by End June its intensity will reduce to the same level as normal flu ( ie a fatality rate of 0.1 percent). No doubt, it is highly contagious and the number of positive confirmed cases will keep increasing for sometime due to easing of lockdowns, but most cases are mild to very mild, some even showing no symptoms at all. This is borne out by the fact that the death rates are falling sharply worldwide.

First off, let me provide the world-wide Daily Death figures for the last 50 days ending 20th May 2020:

DAILY DEATHS (Rounded off to the nearest hundred)

FROM 1st APRIL 2020 TO 20th MAY 2020

5600 - 6000 - 5800 - 5800 - 4800 - 5300 - 7200 – 6300 – 7300 – 7100 – 6100 – 5400 – 5400 – 10800 – 8000 – 7100 – 8400 – 6400 – 5000 – 5300 – 7100 -6800 – 6800 – 6300 – 6100 -3800 – 4400 – 6500 – 6600 – 5900 - 6000 – 5200 – 3200 – 3800 – 5800 – 6800 – 5800 – 5700 – 4000 – 3200  3100 -5300 -5300 -5300 – 5000 – 3800 – 3400  – 3200 – 4600 - 4700

Breaking this into ten 5 day periods, the average daily deaths in the first period was 5600, in the second period it was 6600, in the third period  7100, in the 4th period  6400, in the fifth period  6600, in the sixth period 5400, in the seventh period 4800, in the eighth period 5100, in the ninth period 4800, and in the tenth period it was 3900.

As we can see, the peak was reached during the 3rd period, with a single day peak of 10800 reached on 14th April, and a very clear downward trend established thereafter.

In India the fatality rate is likely to reach normal flu level even earlier .. perhaps by Mid June Itself. Thereafter we just have to live with the virus as we are doing with normal flu by just taking care of ourselves and of others we are interacting with by some sort of social distancing, wearing masks, washing hands regularly etc etc. No need of Lockdowns. Normal life should resume everywhere as it was before.

Yes I am pretty optimistic Racing should start in 1st week July in Pune and Bangalore, and Race Clubs should start making preparations for the same straightaway. Perhaps it may be better to limit attendance at the race courses for a few weeks and start increasing gradually.

If at all racing does commence say by this year then it's like a 2000/1 fluke shot , before that every racing administration or the turf clubs should bring in a policy that keeping the course inside the premises and outside clean and hygienic is absolutely a rule , anyone flouting the rule of cleanliness or disappointed about it please be at home ,and tidy your homes first as the saying goes , charity begins at home , so the same , cleanliness begins at home first , if you are from Chennai and do enter the course it's like you are going to hell and which is in no match for the real hell , everywhere spitting , chewing wild tobacco , drinking at public stands , urinating at grand stands and many more hurdles of pain worst than losing all your money the very first race  , even if you stand at the 2nd enclosure at the totes to book or buy your tickets you will be surprised that suddenly a group or some sophisticated individuals will threaten you to move in order to buy their tickets first , it's like superman and their clan have come so move as we are superior and or else bear the wrath of agony , the canteen in some areas are clean but in most places , just one look you may get a superior panic heart attack , spitting is very colouful especially by the corners of the bookmakers box ,  the colour dark very red will remind you of the horror of the common cancer and other random colours may be like a different Corona which is bound to invade planet earth  sooner than later , everyone is allowed and given the liberty to shout whenever they win but over here don't get close to anyone too close as if they shout your ear may burst out blood , and if you win and go to the totes to collect the money,  say for example 520 mostly you may get 500 if you ask for the remaining the lady at the counter may stare and glare at you like no ones business , I'm not saying everytote but mostly , and the list goes on and on, I think spitting is a common factor at all courses not sure about the rest , in my opinion  if at all racing starts , stringent rules  should be made to observe cleanliness that's the first priority no point winning tons of money and then giving it to the doctor with a disgusted hand to heal you , so play safe be safe that's the best policy that  if at all racing does start , hoping Sir Sagar's golden words come true and waiting for the best to happen till then wishing all HT members good health

Owners- always the investors financers get hit pushed around - racing with punters within the next 3 months will create a big hue and cry -  congress will shout in bangalore - bjp in mumbai/pune -  even if it starts will run into trouble.

Best route for Owners get out soon as possible or pay!

This  epidemic will  peak  in June-July and  then  start  tapering  off  from mid-August and  become  manageable  in  September. Therefore , truncated  Pune  season  may  start  in  October or  earliest in end  September...

I'm sure all racing clubs will start their operations live and intervenue from mid-June or July. At most, some offcourse betting centers might be closed/nonfunctional in bangalore and hyderbad. My only wish is to have a minimum admission fee of rupees 100. And request BTC to have a entrance ticket for offcourse betting centers as well.

I am sorry that I did not mean that only elite members should be allowed. In that case betting outside the Race course will flourish.

What I wanted to express is that the club should create an enclosurewhere admission is selective and restricted and maintain the same with certain decency.

About our second enclosures less said is better !  Even in the first enclosure also all sorts of people are coming. Some times I did feel tht why we should mingle with these type of people. Many times with disgusted feeling I used to pay money to my book maker in advance and indicate my option and I will collect my dues next Racing daty.

People go out of control due to educational background and sometimes their behaviour becomes intolerable.

To avoid all these On line betting will provide opportunity to enjoy Racing from the comfort of our Home. I am not sure whether we will get that privilege in India soon.

I think our Govt may not grant permission so easily. Even then to start Racing programimmediately may not be so easy. Many preparation must be made and arrangement inside the Race course. It is a tuff job. When the Holy Temples, Churches and Mosques are yet to be opened govt may not showenthusiasm.

But still at the same time Govt needs money also to manage the current crisis. That is why they have allowed Liquor shops to start marketing their goods. In Tamilnadu every day they have sales report in Crores ranging from 150 crores every day.

Racing also provides funds to the Govt. They may consider allowing Racing Clubsalso to start their Racing activities keeping in consideration about the welfare of the animals and unemployment in the Racing Industry.

@Ayyarnet  ,

All your posts smack of "attitude " ,but this one takes the cake.

Now you want entry to racecourse restricted to  so called "elite punters " --you included.

No doubt it is the same " attitude " that the clubs keep  while restricting the number of members .

Why not racing?

I am optimistic racing could start in Pune as well as Bangalore as early as 1st week of July. In this connection please refer my posting on HT on 25th April 2020 where I have explained in comprehensive detail that the Corona virus is fast retiring and is expected to reach the same intensity as a Normal flu ( fatality rate 0.1 % ) before June End. In India, that stage may reach even earlier by Mid June. Once it reaches that stage, we may have to live with the virus, ultimately about 10 % of the World`s population is likely to be infected with an average fatality rate of 0.02 %.

Race Clubs should start planning straight away. To be extra safe, they should limit the crowds to 10 to 15 % of full capacity for about  one month.. We can discuss the subject at length if required.

Yes, what Shrikant is mentioned is right. The public area in Pune race course is not safe in the present CORONA situation...people are spitting, smoking in bookies ring, there is narrow space behind Bookies stall..no social distancing. Previously we are enjoying racing from 2nd floor gallery, which now close for punters...RWITC has to implement strict Safty rules for Society wellness..

An industry can not be closed abruptly. Hence the Hon'ble Chairman of RWITC is correct in expressing his optimistic view to commence Races soon or later.

Regarding maintenance unfortunately instant money attracts all sorts of people both good and bad categories. Some people can not change since tey have been brought up in that way like spitting or pawn chewing or smoking.

I suggest to the Race club to consider enlisting Racing enthusiastic people as an ordinary members for a reasonable fee and allow only such members to enter the Race Course instead of allowing all Tom Dick and Hurry. While admitting the members themust consider their background profession, education and in particular their monthly income. In this way the club can filter unwanted elements in the Race Course. There may be a few people but there will be peace at the Course.

Madras Race Club is having a Bar attached to the Race Course complex. But they do not allow public and the entry is restricted to the members only.

We can maintain decency in this way only. But unfortunately the Club is least interested in he welfare of Punters. But the club can not conduct Racing without Punters. For example Madras Races are not so popular among the public and they can not conduct a Races when there is no intervenue betting. This itself shows Club is depending on the income from Punters but they do not want to show or admit just because the club members belong to an elite group.

Unfortunately we do not have a leadership or unity among our Punters. If we have then we can control theclub activities and demand a nomination from Punters in the Board of Management.

Best Regards to all

Nothing unusual and wrong if Poonawalla is optimistic about early resumption of races at Pune.  He is a great horse lover and being a Chairperson of a reputed club it is his duty and responsibility to take every possible step to re-start racing alongwith other sports and business activities in the country.                           One of my reliable source told me that horses from Mumbai are shifted to Pune from 21st of May and race club got necessary permission in this regard from animal welfare department.  This is a important aspect and a sign of progress in the direction of getting things on right track. I too optimistic like Poonawalla that things will be alright in coming months,  may be with some restrictions.  Let's hope good.

dear, sanas when given d charge changed d total structure, everything for members there is no space in second in enclosure

when u enter from second enclosure opp.to u members, trainers standright side members gate, left side near & opp. paddock members & bf4 entering ring right side members . For punters ring & little space one stand.

During pune members & owners are hardly present. I do not what this sanas thinks whether club runs because of members or punters who attend 365x7.More space should be provided to punters.

admin: it's a request to publish this comment & remember it is not sure whether racing will commence in near future due to virus. I do not know how all of them are positive when government is not interested at all & none of d heavy owners have taken any initiative during gst,ràids & virus

@ Shrikant. N.

There is no relevance between the topic you have chosen to discuss  and the contents you have breifed thereon. . Your topic is  " RWITC Chairman is very optimistic in resuming the Pune horse racing season ". But there is no substantial evidence in support of your version in the report.  Instead it highlights the poor maintenance of the pune race course which is very much contrary to the topic.

Will you please clarify.

Don't blame RWITC chairman or any of Pune course Admin, staff. They are keeping everything in good order. They arranged cafeteria area few years back in a very natural style with big soaces. I noticed they change Towels at toilets every week. Drinking water facility is good. With the available space they provided punters all facilities. But few punters spoil neatness.  If you happen to be in Chennai Race Course you would not enter second time. Such a big place the club keep it at Garbage yard.
