Four Wins In A Row — Impressive And Elite Riding By Karis Teetan

By S C Sharma | 14-Jun-2020

The 30 yr old Mauritian jockey Karis Teetan's four wins ( race no 4 to race no 7 ) in a row at Sha Tin, Hong Kong races today was the main talking point and highlight of the day's proceedings of lengthy 11 race card. . He was at his best today to enter his name with some of the top elite group of riders in the world. Displayed his best riding skills with his customery strong finishes which enables him to convert some likely place horses into hard effort wins. All four of his mounts were not first favourites but reckoning in betting, with odds around 5/1 for win and about evens for places( Figures taken as per tote dividends). This is rare and very special for Teetan and I know he is not going to stop here. His hunger to give his best is a example of his no dieing efforts which extracts something extra from the horses to perform well on the actual race day. My congratulations and best wishes to him with many more successes and laurels. He deserves all praise and kudos. Though he is  not in contention for the  title battle as hardly 7-8 meetings left from now but his tally at third position improving rapidly and when top two jockeys Z Purton and J Moreira not able to snatch victories as expected, Teetan is taking all the advantages of this situation to his stride.
After today's races at Sha Tin, HK the table for top honours placed as follows:

1) Z Purton - 130 wins, 91 2nd, 89 3rd and 48 4th.

2) J Moreira- 127 wins, 111 2nd, 86 3rd and 62 4th.

3) K Teetan - 81 wins, 61 2nd, 74 3rd and 70 4th.

K Teetan entered the South Africa jockey academy at the age of 14 and went on to be crowned South Africa's  Champion Apprentice in 2008. He passed the 100-win mark in every season as a senior jockey in SA. His first top level win was in his native Mauritious on 24th Nov. 2008 aboard on Halo Hunter. He rep. SA in the 2012 international jockey's invitation in Seoul, Korea. He notched impressive 50 wins in his first Hong Kong season and continued to build on that good start. He finished third in 2017-18 premiership race with 52 wins, which included a trio of group 3 triumphs. He topped that in 2018-19 as he secured his first HK G-1 win aboard Mr. Stunning in the HK sprint and notched a best ever 84 wins for the term. He is likely to break his own record  of these past wins at HK during this current season.
I wish him again for today's splendid show of his riding skills at Sha Tin, HK and hope he continues to work hard with sincerity and dedication in coming days and keep his record further high- and -high .  Good luck and God bless you Teetan.
