Increased Prize Money Welcomed The New Chaiman At Hkjc

By S C Sharma | 23-Jun-2020

Immediately after Hong Kong Jockey Club announced 4.9 percent increase in prize money to owners, the present chairman of HKJC Anthony Chow Wing-Kin retired after reaching the age of 70 and prominent HK business leader Philip Chen Nan-Iok has been elected as the new chaiman. Michael Lee Tze-Hau elected as the new deputy chairman. At a time when prize money is slashed around the globe  the increase is a major boost to horse owners at HK. HKJC is fully focused on horse racing and achieved world class racing, providing substantial tax and charity support to community.
Hong Kong Jockey Club conducting flat horse racing without spectators behind closed doors due to COVID-19 pandemic  with trainer, owner and jockeys following social distancing with wearing face masks. New chairman Philip Chen promised best support for the betterment of society and HKJC.
The 69 year old Australian trainer John Moore retiring after this current season . He is serving from long and won many races. He was the first to saddle 1000 winners in HK and  leading prize money earner for 12 seasons until J Size topped the earning table in 2017-18 . Now the another Australian hall of fame trainer David Hayes arrived in HK last week and is currently under going his mandatory 14 day quarantine. He anticipates to begin bringing horses into his interim stable from 7th July in preparation for his return to HK racing.

The jockey and trainer championship coming to fast end with 7 meetings to go. After J Moreira pleaded guilty of careless riding and was suspended from riding  in races for the meetings to be conducted at HK on wednesday July, 8. This will hurt magic man's hopes of claiming a fourth championship. The past record of HKJC shows J Moreira and Z Purton shared all previous six years title between them three each. As on date Z Purton is on top with 132 wins followed by J Moreira at 128 wins. The one day ban surely reduces the chances of JM overhauling rival ZP in fight for HK jockey's title. On the other hand P F Yiu is leading the trainers table with 62 wins followed by A S Cruz on 56 wins and further close behind is K W Lui on 55 wins.
The Happy Valley  Wednesday's race card is released and 9 races are framed with the field of 12 runners in each race. First race is scheduled to commence at 4.15 pm IST. Enjoy the competition and excitement. Stay at home, stay safe. Good luck and God bless you all.

Correction : Trainer P F Yiu is leading Hong Kong Jockey Club champions trainer contest -table  currently with 61 wins so far and not 62 as mentioned by me in my above post.   The typography error is regretted.
