Hello Venkat,

Long ago, here on horsetalk, there was some talk regarding the origin of place( of members in here ). It was during the course of that discussion that I decided to add B'lore to indicate the same and have been doing so ever since.

@ Venkat

     COMMANCHE won only two races over 2000 m. in his career -- Bangalore Summer Derby and the Ruia. In neither did he break the track record. In fact, I not sure if broke a track record over any distance.

@bengaluru_cruise

You are right. I do not mind being corrected. Many Thanks. Two points srtand out :

Haha, Aslam Khader would have been old enough then to join the apprenticeship.

Secondly I would like to believe your the only cruise on this portal. Then why the prefix?

Incidentally, Commanche held the course record for 2000 mtrs for a long time.

Cheers

Hello folks,

The best tactical victory in Invitation cup would obviously be that of Own Opinion, who managed to get the better of seemingly-invincible Royal Tern.
The tactics employed by the trio of Ramu's jockeys was the main cause of the brilliant coup which saw young Karl Umrigar fall prey.

For me, the most disappointing Invitation cup would be the one in which Be Safe was done in by some poor riding by Suraj Narredu. Be Safe was asked to do too much in the straight. Whether it was by fault or design only the Narredu trio of Malesh, Suraj and Yash would know.

Who is best? Can't come to a conclusion different runnings, timings, etc. If both horses are participated in same race, same weight, cud be considered who is best after the race us over. So SC and WH both different and can't say which one is best.

I feel Jacqueline and Becket Invitation race was the best. Both given their best untill last Strides. Becket won and crowned as superior. But here WH and SC didn't meet once.

Hello Venkat,

Aslam Khader would have been playing with toy horses when Red Cockade ran, not certainly ride it.
Richar Alford has the dubious distinction of having ridden the on-money favourite Red Cockade. The story doing the rounds then was that it ridden to lose. Tore away frpm the pack and had nothing left in the tank in the home straight. That is, of course, all hearsay, nothing official.

I gree that the question has no value except for academia.

Sir Cecil is a fashionably bred colt. However, he was very comfortable upto 2000 mtrs. War Hammer on the other hand while a yearling sold for a pittance. Some people have all the luck. The total earnings of war hammer is more than 20 times the purchase price!(before taxes ofcourse).

However, there is a significant difference. WH is more versatile than SC. His turn of foot is devastating which SC did not have. Thus, in the hall of fame, WH wil be rated higher-- from purely an academic point of view.

If I recall, Red Cockade was the favourite when Commanche beat in the last few strides? Did Aslam Khader ride him? There were some stories circulating around that defeat of Red Cockade. Correct me if I am wrong.

Best

@Srinivasan,

Commanche(Valaroso- Centime) was a half brother of Squanderer(Valaroso - Milky Way) I guess so. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I can easily say it is sir Cecil coz even when he was hurt ran in Indian Derby . But war hammer even when he was good did not ran in invitation cup . If he would have ran then adjudicate would have beat him coz he had record time in that race . .

@ Srinivasan: With due respect I have to further clarify you that Comanche was beaten by Red Cockade in Bangalore Colts trial stakes in 1975 but later beat Red Cockade  in Bangalore derby ridden by jockey Jagdish. Comanche also won the prestigious Indian derby in 1976 and R R Byramji first time won -completed a hat trick of wins in Indian derby with his next two wins with Squanderer in 1977 and Manitou in 1978.  As mentioned by me Squanderer's only loss was in 1976 where he was beaten by Red Satin in Bangalore Colts trial stakes in 1976.

@ Sharma

It is Commanche who won aganist Red Cockade in 1974 - Summer.

Sqaunderer who was full brother Commanche won Colts and Derby 1975 - Summer.

This is for your information.

Good joke. Please note that all racing activities are Put-on hold due to COVID-19. Only if the races are resumed after the pandemic ,   an answer to your question is possible. Until then keep calm and watch the developments. Do not ask funny questions.

     There are many good  horses which performed better than Sir Cecil and War Hammer on Indian turf though I am not taking credit of winning eight consequitive races by both above mentioned horses.  Two all time great horses  trained by racing icon and legendary trainer of India R R Byramji will also be remembered for their unique achievements.   1) Elusive Pimpernal won 22 races out of 23 and lost only once to Consequence in tight photo finish in Idea Gold Cup in 1995 and 2) Squanderer won 18 races out of 19 runs and lost only once to Red Satin at Bangaluru Colts Trial Stakes in 1976.                                         As mentioned Sir Cecil retired and War Hammer yet to travel a long journey but no doubt he is a braveheart colt and delivering everything expected from him.  I wish he should maintain his form and fitness and should bring many more laurels by continuing his success story.

Hello Race Lover,

It is too soon to compare War Hammer with Sir Cecil as War Hammer is currently active whereas Sir Cecil has retired to stud farm.
