Condolences To Drs Family

By Ramiyer | 16-Aug-2020

With deep regret I inform our HT friends SRI D.R.SRINIVASAN fondly known in HT as DRS. Passed away today morning.

Eversince from the inception of horse talk from India race.com.he was contributing his racing expertise and selections in his own way.He always emulated our great late Vamanan sir when he used to analyse a single race in a day. He was very fond of India race.com well because he relay only on the details published at India race. This he had confirmed many times among his friends.old timers knows him very well.Of late due to his multiple health problems he was away from posting but always active in his friends groups.

We have lost a third stalwart in HT after Vamanan and Srikanth.

Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family .May his soul rest in peace.

With deep sorrow

Ramiyer.

Friends,

I waited for a couple of days to see if any more messages get posted before attempting my message, which is likely to be the final one for DRS here.

It was heartening to see the posts of some close friends like Albert,Sirocco,The Doc,etc and many who had interacted with DRS here like,Cruise,Bonding 008,Glasgow Prince,Ram,Kumar etc ,etc.

All have correctly pointed out the MAN. DRS but I somehow feel that we have not been able to do justice to the most Humanitarian and humble person DRS was.

I was having a crisis in my own home and was sieved of my problems and didn't realise the enarmous loss inflicted on me.

So once more ,

I Salute The ONE and ONLY DRS among my many good friends in the Racing fraternity.

Dr.Nath

I remember having interacted with DRS on a couple of occasions on HT although I didn't have the pleasure of meeting him. He came across as a genuine, straight forward, and an endearing person who was a serious student of the game. The goodwill  he has developed bears testimony to his character. It was painful to learn that he was not keeping well for a long time. May his soul find peace in another dimension of existence!

I have been preparing myself for this news, while praying each day that his pain is lesser. He faced so many challenges in the past few years, that my life seems rather easy when compared to his. He even conquered Covid-19 while battling so many other illnesses.

I read through the tributes by so many people and my eyes are moist and my heart is heavy, I thought it was me who connected with DRS in a personal level, yet it seems he had the ability to build relationships, which lasted a lifetime, even if he met someone just once and in some cases without even meeting them.

I was at the receiving end of his warm hospitality, when I reached Madras, I was greeted by him at the hotel. He had got home made curd rice for Bonzer and me.

We discussed racing at great extent and even though we had very few points which we agreed on, I could see his passion for racing, which went far beyond getting a few winning bets.

He narrated the story of how he felt belittled by his friends, when he didn't know anything about racing and was even mocked. He decided to apply his mind and dedicated considerable amount of time to find various "pattern" he really loved this word, "pattern" needless to say he mastered horse racing, so much so, that someone I consider a guru (Sirocco) considers him a professor.

I think when we leave, we leave behind wonderful memories and even from that one visit to Madras, I have great memories of him.

I was thinking about him the night before he passed away and thought to myself, I must speak with him, yet the next thing I hear is he has left.

Racing is known in many quarter as a mugs game, but DRS (DRC for HTians) he had amazing strike rate during Bangalore Summer Meetings and according to him, BSM was the best period for study punters to make money.

DRS my friend, someday we shall continue our friendship beyond this realms, until then, good bye.

Damarla Raghuraman Srinivasan / Dr Cheenu for HTian / DRS for the near and dear

I am privileged to know him as DRS. Although i am much younger to him he always insited him not to call him sir, he prefered to be called just DRS. He is one of the finest gentleman i have come across. I first got to know him first here in HT. He came across someone as gentleman and someone who had great knowledge about horse racing. Then i got to know him better through whatsapp group. I always wanted to meet him person and get to know more about his handicapping skills which he imparted to me and many more time to time thorugh chats. After  intereacting with him i realised what real handicapping is and how to study/analyse races. Later he introduced me to his "Patern Handicapping". If u look at his excel sheets once you would realise how much hardwork he used to do it studying patterns. I still remeber our discussion on patterns for upcoing Bangalore during the lockdown. I will always cherish thosse moments. I always wanted to meet him in person and even planned twice but unfortunately couldnt do so and i will always carry this disappointment with me forever.

For the past one year he was not keeping well physically and suffered one steback after other but always came out fighting until the last one got him. He was brave man.

I have lost a great friend a teacher and mentor. You will be immensely missed my dear DRS. Hope you willbe watching over us and guiding us from your heavenly abode.

Rest in Peace DRS.

I met him once in Chennai,  he was a fine gentleman and a very good handicapper. I came in contact with him through what’s up group formed by Dr K.R Nath in 2014 and found him a very sincere and although our pattern of studying races was different but his approach of selecting winners was amazing which he called as pattern handicapping. I was lucky to be part of his what’s up Grp POSITIVE VIBES and learned lot from him. He will be missed by all of us.

My heartfelt condolences to his family and may his soul rest in peace.

Very hard or to find aGenteman like Dr Cheenu , I had the great pleasure to interact with him many times on mobile chat , it was a pleasant surprise when he called me once on Christmas Day and wished me and family so was another great Gentleman SirDr Krnath,  it's very sad we are missing these proactive Gentlemen , I'm sure he has found peace with God and his moment of rest has finally come , rest in peace my beloved Dr Cheenu , will be missing you , A wonderful Gentleman once predicted on HT through his astrology readings that at a certain time he would or might bid farewell from this planet earth , it's now been years that prediction has passed and looks like he would live another 20 years more as I can see him come in and out of HT with lightningstrikes and out of the blue , let HT members guess , as I have great respect and regards for him ...

O captain,My captain !

I think it was during 2015/2016 I had the opportunity to meet DRS sir at Madras race course along with Sundar sir. Slowly we started interacting on WhatsApp and despite our age difference we became very good friends,he was a wonderful host too,had the opportunity to study / analyse races with him and he introduced his methods to me which we both used to refer as 'pattern handicapping' still remember the few of us using his excel sheets to pick out patterns and thereby predict winners,he was like a professor and I was very much a student as I believed in his ways of Picking winners he used to call them 'theories' ! Once we boarded a train together from Chennai to Bangalore and spent a couple of days where we had interacted with our fellow friends from the group formed by Dr Nath sir, even after I lost regular touch with racing I used to call him / text him at regular intervals,I have lost a personal friend and although I'm no longer a part of his handicapping WhatsApp group I would like to convey my condolences to his dear friends who are part of that group, dear sir Positive Vibes will never be the same without you,may your soul rest in eternal peace ! You will be dearly missed

Friends,

DRS has been a dear friend ever since we started GTs,about 7 years back.

I recall his presence in the first GT at Bangalore with his trademark Sreechurnam on his forehead,a typical Iyengar habit.

He endeared himself to everyone he met with a genial smile and very polite conversation and won their hearts.

No need for me to talk about his handicapping skills ,touched by Ram Iyer and Kumar.

He used to come to Bangalore at my specific request with Arlington Park and we all had a great time with a few Brave Hearts(A Group I formed with help from a few punters from Madras,Bangalore and Hyderabad).

It was sheer pleasure watching him take a sip  gingerly,of Jack Daniels which I offered in one of his visits!

He liked it and would ask me before leaving Madras for Bangalore,if he can expect Jack from me.

Out Brave Hearts group of persons listed by Kumar, has been very active and vibrant ,thanks in great measure to DRS.

We all knew about his health problems.

He would post in the Whatsup group on his way to the Ramachandra Hospital and ask us to pray for his quick recovery.

He shared with us info.about his family members freely and even sought our advice on a few occasions. He distinguished himself as a senior Executive in Southren Railways and his very impressive Farewell party bore testimony to his all conquering popularity among his colleagues.

It is with a very heavy heart I bid GOOD BYE to my Dear DRS.

Yesterday SKumar phoned me and conveyed the very very sad and upsetting  news of the passing away of our dear friend DRS (Dr Cheenu). I have fond memories of having interacted with Dr. Cheenu on innumerable occasions on Horse Talk, particularly on the technical aspects of horse racing including rating and handicapping.  Our wavelength was matching in many ways. I completely agree with SKumar regarding the great Analytical skills of Dr. Cheenu. We met only once during a GT at Bangalore organized by Dr. Nath, and I remember the interesting conversations we had.

I have lost a friend. I hope and pray his soul will rest in peace and wish to convey my heart felt condolences to the members of his family. May God give them the strength to bear this loss.

Yes Cruise bangalore. He was known as dr cheenu in HT. As S.Kumar said he was having his own pattern handicapping system and used to analyse class 1 and class two races where older horses takes the younger ones. He used to be spot on in his observation.

Dear Friends,

In Loss of Shri DRS Ji, this sport has lost a visionary and extremely highly talented Analyst and Coloumist in HT and PAN India across. The Followers of his articles in HT have now been left with a big vacuum.

The personality of Shri DRS cannot be described that easily as his genius in this sport is so big and larger in scope. We have known him for years and is well connected with all of us in whatsapp. His patience to analyse tough races so easily and answer back to his followers with so much description as to why he analysed in such a simple Manner for that tough one made one and all to admire his mesmersing personality.

He, apart from being an coloumist here has been the Chief Guest of many a contests including our Famed "THE PTR" Series and also the Special Four Winter Derbies PTR Contests conducted by our Esteemed S K Sagar JI. The presentation by him to recognise and declare the winners and Runners-up of both the Contests apart from going into minute details of both the Contests has been the USP of Shri DRS Ji's Persona.

As Ramiyer rightly pointed it out that after Late Vamanan JI exit and further shock to all of us being the Speedrater Genius of Shrikanth who left all of us thus leaving only few Geniuses left in this Sport and DRS JI was one among the elite Persona and Genius one would look forward to for all their needs and requirements in the academics of this Sport. "Pattern Handicapping" as a TOOL , DRS JI was an Super Expert with which Analysis he used to with Pin Point Precision track the Possible  Best performer in a particular Race.

He was also the Star attraction in every Pre-Derby GT being organised by Shri K R Nath JI across differnt venues in India, a day before the Derby Day Races of that Venue of that year.

Many HT'ians in our Group like Dharmesh Ji , Albert Khare, Dr K R Nath, Ramiyer , Libero , Rakesh Menon, Sundar Verghese JI (Arlington Park) , S K Sagar JI and Many Many others have witnessed DRS JI's Genius and Greatness over the years in Various Pre Derby GT's.

Before we could recover from Vamanan JI and Shrikanth's Loss, This setback to all of us in losing DRS JI is utter shock and unbearable one , the loss for his followers is Irreperable and a huge .

I pray GOD to give strength to his Family Members to bear this huge and Irreperable Loss of Losing DRS JI.

We will Miss You DRS JI badly .... RIP SIR

Hello folks,

Am extremely sad to hear about the passing away of my one time dear friend.
We had started to interact over here on horsetalk about a decade back and had gradually become quite close. We would chat quite often those days on a blog named as 'littlepunter'. He would post here as Dr Cheenu those days.

He was very fond of racing and appeared quite humble. I recall of him inviting us ( a group that interacted on the said blog ) whenever we happened to be in Chennai. I do recall of him making the same offer to Begum Shaherbanoo Lagad here on horsetalk around the mentioned period.

We lost touch and hadn't interacted in last couple of years and now, I get to hear of his sad demise.

Dr Cheenu, wherever you are, you will be missed, my dear humble friend. May God grant you eternal peace and rest!

Your grieving mate,
Cruise
