Some of the racegoers are suggesting that even if bookmakers are not allowed inside the race clubs , they will operate illegally outside once the racing resumes without spectatators . i only hope that this does not happen because this will place racing under focus for the wrong reasons and bring further disrepute . It is learnt that the GST Council is well aware of this criminal act of tax evasion by some bookmakers and shortfall in GST collections due to such leakages has been reportedly analysed at the highest level . There is likely to be a sustained effort to ferret out such illegal operators by both the Centre and States . As we know , some GST officials have already been suspended for allowing tax evasion . I would request all concerned to follow the law of the land even if they find it abit unfair . A strong totaliser will gradually improve collections and ultimately convince the govt to reduce tax as well . Let us look forward to clean and tranparent racing as and when it resumes .

Aravind,
You say bookies are accepting bets illegaly outside the race course. Regarding this, I have absolutely no objection whatsoever. It is for police, vigilance department, commercial law department etc to catch such bookies.
All that I am asking from bookies is collect the gst & club commission in full from the punters inside the race course, enter the transaction in the bet sheet and give valid bet slip to the punters.

Ragavanji bookies wud employ ppls. Even before Corona every bookies in Chennai employed minimum 15 staff. There r lot of ways to take het and disburse money for bookies. There is no boundaries for thrm it will all happen without the knowledge of Race club, govt. Only police officials they wud keep informed for smooth operations. During Racing Banned in TN don't you know bookies operated?

RCP,
Absolutely no chance of tote counters operating at race course. Let God save those hapless tote clerks.
Aravind,
At BTC, the average crowd was 5000 for Delhi races and upto 8,000 for Hyderabad, Kolkata & Chennai races. Of course for BNG, MYS, PUN & MUM races there was around 10,000 spectators.
In my assessment, there will be maximum of 500 bettors who may go in search of bookies. The rest will either be absent or bet through mobile phone/computer. You say it is boon for bookies! Well. I do not think bookies will ignore coronavirus risk and welcome the punters.
Pratheep,
GST will not be reduced. If you want to bet, you should be ready to cough up 33% gst + club commission.

It's boon for bookies. Coz races wud held without Punters. Race card wud be published. Based on that punters wud play with bookies. Of ourse it's against rule of club but our bookies and punters were too Smart. When TN baned races, we used to visit Bookies house and lay bet on races held in Other centers.
