Trinella Pool In Kol Derby Race.

By Raghavan | 18-Jan-2021

Four horses ran in KOL derby race.  Two dropped the riders and other two obviously finished 1-2.

At Kolkata, the THP pool & TNP pools are carried over.  No horse finished 3rd.  So, on the face of it, no body can question the decision of RCTC.

Even at BNG, the THP & TNP dividends are mentioned zero.  But, they have not mentioned the c/o amount.  Why?  I have no answer.

People who know the reason to please share that with indiarace horsetalk members.

Now, coming back to Kolkata, I think, the decision to carry over the amount looks unfair.

If any horse had finished 3rd & nobody has nominated that horse for THP, then only the amount should be carried forward.  Similarly, for trinella also, some horse should have finished 3rd but if no one had purchased correct trinella ticket, then it is ok to carry over the Trinella pool.  But, here NO HORSE FINISHED 3rd.

I think, RCTC should have refunded the bet amount on THP and TNP.  That would have been just and fair disposal.  What they have done may be perfectly all right as per dividend rules on trinella and thp.  But, they are only following the rule as per letter and not spirit.  Certainly it was an extra-ordinary situation where four horses faced the starter and two horses dropped their riders.  I very much doubt whether such a situation has happened in the last 100 years; and it may not happen in the next 100 years as well.

I have not purchased any ticket in that race.  (I will not bet in races where less than 7 runners are competing).

Albert Khare,

The decision taken at Mumbai in the race that you speak about & the decision at Kolkta derby race are correct as per rules.  But, it would have been 10 times better if the authorrities had ignored the rule and refunded trinella & thp bets as one time measure.

Lalith,

Oh.  You were talking about place payout!  There was some misunderstanding on my part.

What you say is perfectly right.  The place payouts should be on the basis of tickets sold in the place pool in each of the dead heated horses.  Let us hope that betindiaraces will take some corrective action in the future races.

(By the way, can you please specify in which race the betindiarace paid equal dividend to both the dead-heated horses)?

There was a race with 5 runners in Bombay, where 3 of them dislodged their riders, hence only two finished the race. I think it was evening races and I was watching the races from RCTC stands. The same rules were applied even back then. But I do feel if there is no third horse, then it is just fair to refund the investment.

I also think in a few other cases the investment should be refunded. For example if the winner dead heat, and there is no horse placed second. Or runner up is a dead heat and there is no third horse. These pools are generally played by small punters and they not getting a refund on investment, for no fault of there own, seems a little unfair.

I am not talking about SHP, THP. I am talking about place pool. When we place  a bet in place pool where there were three places means that the bet will be passed when the horse came 1st, 2nd or 3rd. But in betindiaraces.com app they gave equal amounts for both 2nd and 3rd place. The actual price was 20+ for one horse and 220+ for another horse. They gave some 28 odd. This was very unfortunate and unlikely.

The best solution was , either refund the money or declare the race as null and void , but sadly in India these freak incidents are common and what the stewards concur is final no one can go against their wishes or blunder, either we accept this ,or stop racing .

Is there a rule or convention that race should be declared void if 50% jockeys fell down?  I have my doubts.

BVS Prasad,

There should  be no tanala if only 4 horses are running.  Good suggestion.  HYD operate the trinella only if 5 horses are running.

But, other clubs insist only 4 hores minimum.  This is best left to the discretion of club.  Of course, you can always skip the race if only 4 horses are running.  I skip races where less than 7 horses are running.

Lalith:

HYD refunds SHP bets if there is dead heat for 1st place.  It refunds THP bets if there is dead heat for 2nd place.

But BTC pays SHP for both horses in case there is DH for 1st place & THP for both horses if there is DH for 2nd place.

Some punters say what HYD is following is correct.  Some others okay what BTC is following.  Personally I feel that HYD/MUM should follow what BTC is following.

Godzilla:

Small filed?  What can RCTC do about that if owners/trainers are disinterested?

Your suggestion that prize money should be given on a silver plate to Black pearl is somewhat harsh.  The two horses dropped their riders.  That can be attributed to ACT OF GOD.

It is disaster for Zoya, tough luck for Apsara.  If there is no accident, I think Black Pearl would have found it extremely difficult to win.  Many feel that the Black pearl struggled hard to beat even Cliffhanger.

The race should have been declared NULL AND VOID, because 50% of the jockes on the horses FELL DOWN.

Very valid points. None can escape from your microscopic vision.  In future, only one horse like Black Pearl will participate  in such a big event at Calcutta seems and they can present the Cup straightaway to the connections, without running the Race.. Atrocious.

A BIG MOCKERY OF DERBY.

Absolutely right bro in Hyderabad Thp has refunded, whereas in Hyderabad tanala pool will be conducted where there 5 horses above only, it's unfair to operate tanala (trinella) in 4 horse field.

In betindiaraces.com app they are giving equal amount as dividends for dead heated 2nd and 3rd place. I never seen this type of betting rules.
