Variation In Jackpot Payout.

By Raghavan | 16-Feb-2021

Kolkata jackpot pool on BNG races of 13/2/2021 was carried over Rs. 1,30,000/-.  The jp pool at Bangalore paid 15,900/- , whereas at HYD, the pool paid 7500/-.

On 15th, HYD jackpot pool on Mysore races paid 19500/-.  Whereas at BNG the same pool paid  Rs. 207000.  At Kolkata, the pool was carried over.

The unit bet at HYD is 5/- whereas at BNG & KOL it is 10/-.  So, payment at HYD should be around 1/2 of what either BNG or KOL pays.  And, payments at KOL and BNG should be more or less equal.  Of course one can understand the variation upto 2000/-.

I have highlighted just two cases of recent days.  But, no doubt there will be many such cases in one year where there is big variation in  jp payout (other pools too) .

Given the elephantine ego of turf club management at every center, it is highly unlikely that they will agree to a common tote for all pools.

But, all race centers should agree for common tote at least for jp pool.  The collections will definitely increase & thereby the punter can expect much higher payout than what he i s receiving nowadays.

For jackpot pool, all race centers should agree to 5/- tote.   (I doubt very much whether HYD will revise the unit bet to 10/-).  We talk of one nation..one common civil code.  Let all the race centers adapt one common policy for jp pool at least.

IIMBLUE,

In America, the unit bet is $2 for win, place or show & $1 for exotic pools and multileg pools.

Suppose you like to buy combination ticket of superfecta pool, and the ticket costs $1,000, you can still buy that ticket for $100.  That is you can bet at unit bet rate of 10 cents.  (If your ticket wins, you will get dividend proportionately)

So, let them fix 10/- unit bet for win, shp, place.  But for exotic pools & multileg pools, punters should have the option to bet at unit rate of 5/-.  Of course such facility can be extended to only those who buy combination tickets of 500/- or more.

At Chennai, the unit bet is 5/- but they had introduced 2/- unit bet also.  (Of course, I am not sure about that.  Senior punters at Chennai are requested to clarify).

But who can drill some common sense to the management team of turf clubs?

As per SEC 194BB of the IT Act , tax deduction at source (30%) will be effected on the winnings.

It makes immense sense for the Race Clubs to reduce the ticket amount to Rs 5 , not only on Jackpot but some other Exotic pools too.

In a hypothetical case of Jackpot winning ticket getting rs 10,001 , TDS at the above rate takes effect.(at BTC even your investment amount is not spared ).If the ticket is for rs 5 the dividend will be half of this , and TDS does not come in to picture.

Tax. Laws have been very harsh on the race goers.HRC is smart enough to keep the rate at rs 5. It is futile to expect other Clubs to bring in this friendly measure !

Ram Iyer sir,

The combined jackpot pool is between BNG, MYS & Chennai.  HRC is not a member of any combined jpp.

Regarding online betting, it seems that the operator retains whatever profit he gets and pays HRC only some royalty or commission.  I do not thiink this is correct.  The HRC should treat the online operator at par with bookies and allow him to accept the bets only for win & place.

People who desire to bet on multileg pools or exotic pools should bet only at the race course.

Libero,

Right.  Online dividend & club dividend may vary.   The dividends are calculated based on the sales at online betting and the number of successful tickets.

What I said in the lead post is, ideally the payout at HYD should be around half of the corresponding pools at other centers.  But, the dividends at HRC may even be much higher than the dividends at other centers.  Hence, I am asking the clubs to merge at least jackpot pool of all race centers, and fix unit bet of Rs. 5/-.

Robert,

Yes.  It is indeed a pity that HRC will not  do joint business with other clubs. Other centers may also be not very much interested in such simple reforms.

The Turf Authority of India should be delegated with powers to regulate the betting & dividend policy of all the Turf clubs in India.  And they (TAI) should handle the situation in no non sense manner.

It is indeed laughable that bookies at HYD pay only for two places in 7 horse field whereas at tote they pay place dividend for first three places.  The rulings at Turf clubs in India are most hilarious.

When there is a common pool at Japan, Australia, Hon Kong etc, why there should be so many inconsistences in wonderland of Indian racing world?

Dear Raghavan sir

I think you misunderstood the JP pay outs, need not be exactly half just because of Rs.5/- tkts, JP pay out depends on how many tickets left after the last leg, if no tkts left at Kolkata/Bangalore it is carried over, whereas Hyderabad punters are extra smart and there may be many tickets which come upto last leg and hence the payments might differ (All the payouts depends on collection and number of tickets passed)

For example Yesterday in Mysore last race No.3 won and the payout of HRC App (now Rs.10/- minimum in app) was 700/- whereas in tote for Rs.5/- tkt it was 166/- , that is because in tote collection and number of winning tkts were more and in App the number of tkts were very less, Hope you got the point

Regards

Santhosh

Dear Raghavan

In hyd online betting has  increased to 10 rs per unit bet for all pools.but the have not clubbed with the tote collection with the online collections reasons best known to them.In Chennai online and tote collections are already clubbed and uniform dividends are given at Tote and online which are 5rs unit bet. But jp at Chennai online is 10rs unit bet. Recently hrs announced that common jp pool consists of HRC Mysore btc and Chennai. If so then all these turf club pay out should be uniform. There is no clarity yet.

Sir, always Hyderabad jp collections are more than any other centers in all racing days. And hyd punters crack jp most of the time.  Ticket rate is 5 rs , when someone takes a jp ticket in hyd for 500 rs, the same ticket in other centers goes up to 1000 rs and most of the punters in hyd will take a chance with a 5 rs per ticket ( 250 or 300). The collections are also good and pay out also fine.

So if a uniform jp pool is considered, every center should bring down jp ticket to 5rs like hyd.

But HRC won't accept the ideal of combined jp pool

Thanks
