The Right Punter And Method's To Follow

By Anilxk | 04-Apr-2021

Dear Friend's,

In my 28 years of racing (fan) experience, I found that racing is running with some system and it follow's it . The punter who follow's it can survive . In one old thred , I openely given my loss profit with all turf club's in India(basically I bet at BTC).

There is no short cut to win money in racing. To gain some thing one must observe the following

1- Type of race -Maiden, age group , class,

2- Promotion /demotion

3- Distance and past performance

4-Winning percetage of horse /jockey in particular distance

5-Trainer records

6-Trainer winning odds

7-Trophies -shields

8-Season wise strike rate of Trainer-some may try only in winter

9-Consistancy of mounts by particular trainer to decide whether they are gambling types or not.

10-Weight carried (neglect allowance)

11--Performance with top weight

12-Owner -Highly invested may try more

13-Jockey regular or with Agrrement

14-Track's and Attachment's

15-Medical treatment in last 60 day's

16-Gaps in races best is between 12-36 days

17-Performance in wet or hard surface.

18-Speed of last three races.

19-Class one rider if allotted with

20-Shoe change - Not just A or S , High heel, rear heel, front high heel, synthetic shoe etc.

21- Odds

If all these are observed one can study one or two races in a card , most probabily he may not loose. When most of these factors are positive it may try.

Jump/Start  is based on better training methods.

Intial speed controlling and positioning is depending upon jockey

Matching the strides and creating enthusiasm in horse in middle of the race is depending on jockey

maintaining the required stamina is depending on the training method /feeds

Alerting the horse to say at bend is timely decision to be taken by jockey

Horse ready to say at right marking with alerting is depending on training methods

Finishing speed is depending on training method

and the last 20m is depending on how much lucky you are.

So when these matters matches some stars may cross over or some orbits may come down. Racing is puery Chemistry+Physics+Biology+Mathematics+negligible amount of luck..

The anxiety and greediness turn a fan to punter and convert him as gambler.

Invest carefully(not gamble responsibily) ...it is your hard earned money

@ Kelso,

"Picking winners is not a big task. Betting on them is."

Golden Words.

When to Bet and When to refrain from , is what makes an intelligent player from an ignorant punter.

All races are not runs on merit; Racing is not for all to wager money, it is for the bookies/owners/trainers who gains money from the poor punters who plays all the cards and centres.  Despite punters who are capable of having patience and to play the horses which they follow the run regularly will only gain.  Also watch every race,  in particular the horses which comes beyond the dead end and finishes near the post, that will fetch you good results to follow.

Also watch the Kolkata Derby and see what Srinath and Trevor did,you may also agree Trevor but Srinath nowhere connected voluntarily stepped down, the reasons behind is only known to the connections. The Cliffhanger finishes 2nd with lucrative odds and BPearl sails smoothly as commented. Both Zoya and Apsara Star may reach the post in particular Apsara Star for 2nd place fetches good place more than evens.  But later in Mumbai, the connections prefer good lucrative odds and the rest you decide.  There is so many such incidents in racing,so the calculations and homework will not work in all races.  So be aware of this and play with more cautious.  Bet your horse before few minutes to enter into the gate so you can identify the market trend and bookies tactics in winning/placing horses by the way of increasing/decreasing the odds on favorite/2nd fav, which will give you some last minute idea.  Also don't play the wards of Trainer's who placed more than one horse in the particular race.  Follow the good set of Trainers Arjun  Mangolkar, Paddy, Shroff, whom can believe even if their odds are very low.

Racing will be their for 365 days but we will not be, if fail to be patience and avoid all cards n centres.

This is the main ideology of the racing and then only all factors/parameters will have a role.  No one can emerge as victorious if played all the cards, it's guaranteed.

@ Kelso

The magic and attraction of race is its minutes gap from race to race. That short time only few can find right horse.

Second thing Race is business

It is a never ending business which continues from last day or any day in previous year. Some owners and trainers are very keen to retain some trophies and shields in every year. It required  good observatory skill to identify such things. And sometime if one horse is beaten some may try in the same day but few kept it for next suitable dayagainst winning trainer. The old man AB. David is a person who try to win after a fancy lost. But H.David waits to beat the same trainer in next suitable day. Now riding and training lost its class

The best of racing analysts/gamblers from different parts of the world have identified about 120+ factors associated with betting on horse racing. It is not possible to quantify all of them. Betting on horse racing is not for the average/below average punter. That being said, there will always be a (very) few who will end up making money consistently

Picking winners is not a big task. Betting on them is. One simple aspect of betting on horse racing is that most of the punters do not realize that they have absolutely no control on what happens on the race track. And most of them end up blaming the sport, the connections, the professionals, etc..

So what must a punter do to remain in the game? The only aspect of betting on horses that he has control over is, the money in his pockets.

Everybody is a handicapper today. But does everybody know how to manage their money? For more than 80% of the punters, the answer is a NO.

Learn how to manage your money. Set aside a capital, distribute your stakes, wager responsibly. Lose only what you can afford to. If you are losing money continuosly over a period of time, this game is not for you. Just quit & save yourself the further sufferance.

Sir no doubt it is a very difficult subject no body disputes that. Most of the people  come here for easy money and end up loosing what ever they have.

Knowledge is certainly important but extra knowledge and increasing the no of factors will only confuse u . patience is the most important factor for success in racing.

You are ian ntelligent punter.

The biggest race gambler in hkjc not visited course in last 10 years. He is a yugoslavian migrated to hongkong. So visiting course is not a must, but for those getting entertainment  should surely go there.

If we observe drinkers

Some drink very fast but little and rush for home or work site

Some buy and take it at home

Some drinks with friends only

Some people  only at bar comfort

Some drinks only from counter

And a few drinks little from counter but observing the whole activities sitting at bar counter. Those people are enjoying the life movements in bar and not drinks they never take more than their quota.

@ ANILXK...

Sir... The answer you have given to Mr. Bro Bro is 100% correct... Yes... Racing is not for lively hood... It's a place to play & enjoy with proper knowledge... Patience... Understanding... Always ready to loose without hesitation with a low investment... For ex... You take today Delhi races ie...6-6-2021... Ts Jodha won 5 races out of 7 races... Can any one assume... I think no... We can't play all the races with knowledge ... It fails sure... Just select 1 or 2... maximum 3 races... If one earn something it's o.k... Loose something it's also o.k... Just leave the Tote and relax... Better luck next time... One must have this attitude with all proper knowledge with patience... Very frankly speaking I am small punter Sir... I have control...Rarely I visit and enjoy... Rarely loose some...Rarely gain some... I enjoy racing... I don't have any regrets... I love Experts and Elders in this field like Raghavan Sir... Some times I admire lucky guys... It's all fun and entertain with knowledge and happiness... but a costly habbit... Very costly.... Very entertaining for very few... but not to make money...

Thank you Sir... May God bless you with more knowledge and happiness...

      With Regards...

@ANILXK. the amount of parametres u have given will take the whole life of a  punter in analysis ing  them a arriving at a winner. Racing is conducted in such a manner it has to fool the punter. Horse which cannot loose and all the parameters are ok will loose and a horse which will be in doubt to win will win. Even the most intellegent people will fail in racing. No computer software can be built for this.

@RAGHAVAN JI There is only one way to increase you strike rate is only analyse the fav. Either play the fav of lay the fav. Analyse the fav if you like it play it if you dont like it lay it. If you regularly stick with the fav it is most likely that your strike rate will increase.

@ Ramanujan

If one fellow stick's to his own theory one or another day it may give results, but nobody will do it. One of my old racemate( we keep friendship only inside race course) is following a passive theory and most of the time it work's , he just play favourites above 1.5 and below 2.5 win and fav below 1.5 shp.No head cracking analysis or studies , just buying one Chhate paper and going back not empty pocket.

Another person , who is a fluke wizard plays only doosara of trainers with a chance, he takes good payments with out much effort, but it required patience as they await till the last minute of the betting.

@bro bro

You people are the wrong ambassador's of this skill game, it is not a place to earn livelyhood, but a place to play and enjoy.

@ Pradeep Sethi

Eventhpogh with somewhat knowledge in racing and about blood stock , we are still punters because , we not shows patience.

@ Prasad/Krishnan

Horse weight matters with season and type of Training, Normally sprinters are heavilly built and stayers are like kenyan runners.

@ Shanky

The racing systems not changing, if 1-5 are prominent on today 10-15 may be prominent tomorrow. With out proper statement , no trainer can escape from punishment.

@Raghavanji

Peoples like you can guide fellow punters in HT , about padock hi-lites.

I agree that in the present day racing scenario, no formulas will work. The connections have their own formulas for winning. Take the case of Hi Octane. It could have won any day in its two previous runs at least.  They waited for a double for the connections mainly the owners. Rambunctious ran at 3/1 and over odds very well supported by stablemate as favourite. Calculate the roll bet with both horses at 3/1 and over. Another example is Altair at Bangalore. The horse impressed me in the paddock and also had a 4 kg allowance jockey. Good odds and played place only. Entering home the horse was in good position to place or win but the jockey looked confused to be in that position and when few horses overtook he was relieved. I kept persisting with that horse and on the 4 th attempt it won at good odds 8/1 for win and 1 3/4 for place. Recovered and also double the amount lost. So sometimes following a horse pays. Osiris was another horse I followed to gain.

Burning leopard,

Paddock check, I think is copyright of Buddy.  You may be aware that he has amassed big fortune and if I have to believe his statement is now peacefully retired from actively betting.

As such, even I do not know what paddock check means.  Buddy was getting reliable information, which he used to verify with paddock check and if satisfied will bet on that horse.   He was betting in lakhs;  his average bets used to be 70k. He was having credit account with multiple bookies, who were not at all pressing for the payments due from him but were prompt in paying dividends that they owed him.  A big fan of Chanakya, he used to mock me on the issue that I still play at the tote.  I am tired of requesting him to not to worry about me or my loss.  But, some souls will never learn to breathe through their nose; instead they always open their mouth!

@Anilx

Your entire theory will not holds good for the present scenario; The horses winning/losing its all depends upon by the decision of Owners/Trainers/bookmakers and the lucrative odds. See in the Derby Mum, F Flame had good stamina n energy to pass  the post, but the above G'mens decided to opt for place due to odds factor and public fancy, the bookmakers have to repay a huge sum of money to punters who have betted on FF. Similarly, Be Safe, since the bookmakers reluctant to accept BSafe as a title winner since all over the world punters betted on that horse, bookies have no such money   to repay, so it happened.

In handicap races, there is some theory works out; that too only one card of the day, rest depends on the bookies manifesto only.

The only safest theory is, if u win one race, you have to stop betting and be watching for the day, that's the only way of safe racing in this present scenario.

No one can go head above in the end of the race if certainly played all the entire card.  Bookmakers have some role in the strategy of winning horses.

Someone please tell me, what is paddock check, how to asses the fitness of a horse in paddock. What factos to consider to come to a conclusion.

Buddy said ...

05-Apr-2021

look only way is -

1] know your horses should be good at handicapping taking factors like -weight -distance -jockey and the competition [other horses]

2] Once you get that you should see the fitness in the paddock [paddock handicapping] because you might be really good in paper handicapping but if the trainer decides not to win horse wont even place -paddock can give that clue on most occasions -if you have some understanding of horses....simple.

Yes, there is no theory which can give 100% result!  Is it not then  prudent  to evaluate by way of sheer experience associated with unavoidable trial and error implications common to any meaningful reasearch on anything on earth or the cosmos and successfully land on an enabling strategy to be stuck to in our pursuit of optimum results individually? The net-spread of a single strategy referred to here being bound by  a unique set of conditions to prevail, is bound to be inevitably limited. But what is the harm if you patiently  wait and pounce sometime later for the next event, by and large, conforming to your pet strategy perceived to be working well. This way one can a pursue a unique successful strategy of one’s own and be close to say at least 75% result. Lack of patience and dabbling in events falling outside the parameters of the vision strategy dilutes one’s performance ability. In the process one may be encouraged to devise yet another sureshot strategy  working on entirely different set of condions independant of the first one thereby facilitating improved encashment. Key lies in one’s own approach and no use in lamenting on self-imposed poor strike rate.

A good primer for the beginner. I remember Singapore Racing Authority used to publish the principles of handicapping a horse race in their website.

Once you are thorough with horse race lingo , it is then decision analysis and data interpretation.

Then comes when to bet and when not to.

And That is the most crucial decision.

@Kunal

A  Person can approach and follow various systems in racing. If you have plenty of time left with can go through pedigree data(I am researching in that sector for many years) but if you follow do it religiously , then fruits will get. Last week in Oakbank one horse called Stryker won a race of 125000 aus dollars. It was bought by just 400 dollars for trying in jump races by Trainer lady. There is no merit in both lines; but pedigree system work's only if you observe and analyse carefully. You can catch long shots .

@Prasad

The problem with normal punter incuding me are restlessness , we all play most of the fund in first three races in a card , most probably worst class or segmant on that day. Creating patience and practicing it may improve financial outcome.

@Gambling Saint

Padock observation is another tactic which required very keen observatory method's to master with. I remember the day of colt's& fillies trials conducted on the same day in bangalore summer, Senior Trainer Padmanabhan endorsed by club to comment on horses, none of his pick's touched board. It is not just horse giving signals of positive movement, sometime trianer also from their face.

I will narrate an old incident.

It was in 2003 season summer , I played a horse owned by Vijeth Bhandari (Trained By Pradeep Annaiah) by observing its paddock movements, that horse in his all previous attempts never started good, that day also same thing happened and lost. By the time I am working at Near by Sagar appollo hospital (in a company), there is a liquor out let on the way side adjacent to Brindavan appartments, most of the days I am buying parcel from there, but incidently I seen Mr Pradeep standing at counter. I just wished him by saying "just chilling after start left" We don't know each other, he looks at my face , I replied that I know you are trainer at btc, today I played Vijeth Bhandari owned horse, by the time he laughed , the bar manager standing at counter also joined . But really I observed paleness in his face , in the very next outing it won by longer odds around 430rs.

@ Wild card.

Problem with 99% of punter is that , all will try to make money in the sameday, if we found the day's chemistry is not matching just quit and chill out .

Prasad,

65 to 70%!   The only way it can be achieved is by betting only 50ps favorites.  Normally punters struggle to achieve 35% to 40% strike rate.

Anilxk,

No punter observes all the points that you have listed.  Normally a punter makes up his mind based on past performance & odds.

However, if unknown to me, there are punters to observe more than 50% of the points, then my hearty congratulations to those punters.

JUST PLAY FOR FUN,SMALL SMOUNTS.NO THEORY FOR SURE.JUST LUCK.

Hai friends,

With 55 years experience I feel there is no theory in racing which can give you 100% result. Anything more than 65-70% is profitable. I feel most of there races in India are 1400 MTS or less basically Sprint events. Best is calculate the timing considering weight difference and see the paddock look of the horse and if you feel it is fit just back it . 40% win and 60% place. No shp or thp. plz take care of penetro meter reading also while considering timing.Remaining left to your experience and judgement.

Well said a perfect narration of how racing works you can add more number of pointers to it but it's basic commonsense of racing

I am punter from PUC days it's been almost more than 15 years I have  won some lost some but I am sticking to it after trying all methods because this is the only thing can atleast save u from .loosing regularly more importantly lost because of lack of concentration at race time ,getting carried away or  playing for odds , race is never ran for the our commitment so don't look for odds more importantly main thing is money management only these basic thing can help u becoming better punter not a winning punter

Meticulously looking after all these parameters doesn't come in a months practice it takes years still trying perfect I may die trying.it only comes from personal experience .

See horse racing is a percentage game

Best of luck to all aspiring learning punters including me

Don't spoil peaopl here by giving astrology and numerology pointers and spoil aspiring punters I beg u please it might spoil Thier carrier or it will damage the confidence as established reputed site in indian racing cheif editor should avoid such posts as it's spoils the image just look at Maj nagarkolkar post does he needs to remember all these minute pedigree details if racing was done dusted by astrology and numerology

Judge by yourself dear punters

Great well narrated, but most of the points you pointed out because of your experience, most of the punters dont know which horse  is promotee or demootee, like wise there are many points to be discussed which many don't know and even me. So why can't some one in this thread start online classes with experienced people as the masters, the class can be weekly once on monthly payable basis  with nominal amount.
