Different Rules For Ooty&chennai In Public Entrance

By Govindarajan S (chennai ) | 12-Apr-2021

OOTY Race is on, without Spectators, bookmakers and totalizer.

At chennai Race center for Race intervene betting taken for OOTY Race with bookmakers.

Tote tickets also open.

I wonder Udagamandalam (Ooty) and Chennai are in same Tamilnadu state. But different rules taken by Racing Authorities.

OOTY without punters and bookmakers. At chennai they allowing punters (200 punters)

and bookmakers. covid19 positive cases at chennai  higher than ooty.

Million dollar question????

It  is  the  right  decision  .ooty  is  a  small  place  and  tourist  season  is  on  it  can  ill afford any  COVID  out  break

Take  the  case  of delhi 3  weeks  back  it  was  750  daily  today it is  11560 daily.  so  who  is  to  blame?

The  people .    All precautions  thrown  to  the  wind Hardly  any  maks  Market  places  over  crowded

You are right...the difference is in government body. I think Ooty collector is not allowing.

My understanding is that Ooty is a small place and the club infrastructure is also small and limited. Since it is very hot summer in Chennai and nearby places to Ooty( Mysore and Coimbatore) there could be more crowd from Bangalore also since there is no racing and also curbs due to COVID. Allowing people and tote betting with government restrictions will be difficult and may attract government ban. So people who want to bet both with bookies and tote can visit Chennai. In Chennai the bookies have developed very good net work and you can bet over phone and enjoy seeing races which is free in MRC web and maybe YouTube also.

Govindarajan (chennai),

In taking decisions, thee management of Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Mysore & Chennai race club are competing with each other to grab Tughlak establishment centenary Gold cup.

At least the Madras race club has announced its decision to conduct races without spectators at Ooty & run IVB at Chennai.  But, what BTC does is anybody's guess.  So far it is not understood why the club has not conducted IVB on Delhi races.

Let us not search for any kind of rationale from the club management.  It is like a blind man in a dark room searching for a black cat that is not there!

If the BTC does not conduct IVB, the punters are saved some few thousand rupees every race day.  That is the only positive fallout.

Regarding social distancing, they (MRC) say 200 spectators!  I remember a joke.  The doctor advises his patient to observe strict diet and consume only two chapathis during afternoon & night.  The patient says, "right doctor, but should I take those two chapathis before meals or after meals?"  I do not know whether the administrator at Chennai is very strict in enforcing the rule of maximum number of punters.  But, at BTC, they say limited number of punters only!  But, what is that limit, no body knows.  The  punters only know that the idea of social distancing is shot to hell.

Add some sense when commenting on something. COVID is having a great run in it's second race so the rules will be different. During Chennai season COVID took a backseat for a while so punters bookmakers etc were permitted.

@Govindarajan,

Excellent observation. The authorities in our country have no vision. Everything is done by one person at the helm without guidelines from any competitive authority.

One day or few hours before the event the person would realise his/her mistake and haphazardly would alter decision.

That's been happening all over the country. Beating Thalis and now celebrating Tika Divas (catchy names given to distract a common man).
