I started following Samar Singhji's horses since the last 2 years. Once I knew, after studying, that any particular horse stands a good chance, I used to dig deeper and would be convinced that this horse must be betted with. He would place ordinary jockeys on these mounts, and the odds would be quite high.and the results would be mostly win or place Straighforward trainer was he. No hanky-panky with him.Made good money on his mounts at high odds.

May his soul rest in peace.

Samarsinghji

You are one of the best in tactics but likes to be behind curtain. You are one of the best horseman I ever noticed in last 29 years in my racing career. The specialist in repairing broken horses and damaged one's.

The shoe change by you on a horse ( hymn- mazzal) who is born short of rear legs trained by you. After six attempts , you used fron high heel and rear normal shoe for that horse. It attracted me so much that , the energy preserved in can help the runner to make a final dash, and he did it. The horses of Attaollah are also partially trained by you as we regulars know.

The loveliest part of your life is that your wife is owner, son rajesh or rakesh riding and. Vishal grooming it.

You always kept a good control over short tempered Ponnappa( ex trainer) for not getting into trouble with abusing public.

Let your family supported by God to move away from sorrow.

Om shanti Samar singhji

The distressing times brings in more distressing news. The latest being passing away of trainer Samar Singh.

He was one of the active jockeys when I started my racing late 70s. The big names those days were Vasant Shinde, M. Jagdish, S.Marshall, Robin Corner and Nelson Reuben. He averaged around 6 to 8 winners those days with average winning odds being on the higher side ( six and above ). I do not recall of him having ridden a horse to victory in a classic.

As a trainer, his recored was almost the same ( average winners and odds ) but he did get a classic winner in Lovely Kiss ( Rebuttal x Raisin ). His horses were the best bets for longshot hunters. The highest dividend paid at the tote was Rs 1439/- when Lovely Kiss made her maiden start with A. Ashok Kumar in the saddle.

I will truly miss him.

May the Lord grant eternal rest and salvation to his soul.
