Elepnor..a Champion In The Making

By Rahul71 | 27-Feb-2023

Elepnor by Excellent art out of Elena....seems to be a champion in the making. The timing of 1:21.54 for 1400 mts is probably the fastest time for PBMM. And the way it accelerated in the last 300 mts was a treat to watch.

Don't know whether Elena can produce a Derby distance baby...maybe pedigree experts can throw some light on it.

But nonetheless if Elepnor remains injuries free then greater things are expected.

@Veteran Punter: Agree with you. Some are here just to criticize others. There's no fool proof system to achieve success in racing. Trainers and jockeys fail. Each follow different strategies and TFR  is one such method.

From pandemic I am watching and playing online only. I have noted down some of the jockeys antics in paddock and near the starting gates and has given good results. I have also been to some extent note the horses in the paddock and near the starting gates and got good results. Dream Alliance was one which gave good returns.

Selections are given here as a pointer with no compulsion.

This topic has meandered into a totally different direction. Instead of commenting on the subject, a few have taken up cudgels against Mr. Sagar's post. I fail to understand what irks them.

If you believe that Pedigree and TFR are all hogwash, no one is forcing you to follow them. Follow your winning strategy and count the notes. Nobody stops you from doing that.

Any body can claim any thing....The point is TFR is ,was and will remain a total flop it's proved beyond any statistics.

Elepnor become a classics material or not will be subject to it's staying. Also Elena was a 5 furlong filly. But there is no doubt if not a miler or stayer he will definitely be a great sprinter if it keeps injuries away.

Also my understanding is not to always go by pedigree pundits. They are mostly wrong. Horse staying ability is learnt by common sense and after it runs. On a lighter note If pundits would have been such experts they would have been busy counting money and not doing analysis in forum. Racing is more of trial and error for horses, trainers, jockeys and owners. They try it step by step if it succeeds it's great if not they get back to pet distance. We have seen that with Ruffina.

All these DI concepts are more of theory and have mostly gone wrong. Horses can inherit class and distance from 3 generations. So you never know.... May be it can get a mile even if it's dam was 5 furlong. Considering pedigree Ellusive Pimpernal should not been been an all time great.

@ RAVI ..

No way anyone can say that my TFR testing Exercise was unsatisfactory.

My CUMULATIVE SCORE AFTER 23 TESTS was  + 2300 ( ie 27600  Return – 25300 Invested)

STRIKE RATE : 10 OUT OF 23 ie 43.5  % AT AVERAGE ODDS OF 17.6 to 10

Further I  wish to inform  that subsequently after the above 23 Tests,  for about 10 days, Admn Indiarace was not publishing my postings – on Horse Talk - relating to TFR Tests for reasons not clear to me.

On 18th December Morning I posted TFR TEST Number 24 .. GOLCONDA 2000 GUINEAS .. SALENTO WIN

On 25th Morning I posted TFR TEST Number 25 .. Mumbai 6th Race JULIETTE WIN 500 and NORTHERN LIGHT WIN 500,, And TFR TEST NUMBER 26 ... KOLKATA  OAKS ON 26th December .. SUCCESS WIN

None of the above was published by Admn Indiarace. I do not know if it was a technical problem (network) or Deliberate action. Its not clear why.

SALENTO won at 17: 10 on 18th December

JULIETTE won at  9 : 4 on 25th December

SUCCESS  won at 55/100 on December 26th.

Total invested in above 3 tests  =  3300, and total Return = 2700 + 1625 + 1550 = 5875

If I take the above into consideration my  CUMULATIVE SCORE AFTER  26 TFR TESTS  was:  + 4875     (  33475 Return  – 28600 invested)

AND STRIKE RATE 12.5 OUT OF 26 = 48 % AT AVERAGE ODDS OF 16.8 : 10

It's too early to declare ELPENOR as a champion. Also  time form ratings are a total flop so let's not jump to conclusions.Yiu had started a exercise which was not at all satisfactory

That performance gives ELPENOR a time form rating of 104, which is the highest for a 3 yr Old in India while it is still February.

I think it will be a champion miler/middle distance horse, can win longer distance also who knows only time will tell

True.It also exposes the declining calibre of horses on the Mumbai circuit.First Mirra
now Elpenor.I cannot fathom how a class 4 horse like San Salvatore can record a time of 82.5 seconds or class 5horse Daulat Mai time sub 84 seconds. This is for racing pundits to illuminate. Both these horses have failed to even place in their next outing. However, this will lead to erosion of concepts like timing,Penetrometer reading etc and in due course punters belief in handicapping and winner picking.

No doubt it was a terrific win and congratulations to the team. Few things I observed was : What was Neeraj doing ?. He was with the winner all along and in the straight he was ahead of Elpenor by 2-3 lengths and he started pushing the horse after Suraj had overtaken him and away by few lengths. His horse Dream Alliance was full of running and finished 3rd on photo. If Neeraj had ridden it with more commitments to his connections he could have gone closer/won. What to do blood is thicker than water

What was Paramar doing on Fighton ? Whether he was setting pace for Waikiki ? Few races he has won due to the horse than any skill shown by him. Surprisingly he is being retained and D A Naik who is the stables work jockey is better than him but seldom gets any mount.

Jamari had a win in poor company and still ran a good race. In Mumbai long straight front running horses are always vulnerable. Smiles Of Fortune was given a suspicious ride and should be noted for the next outing for a mile

the timing was just 0.1 second outside the record time.

Bangalore horses are the best, we here in mumbai pune give far to much importance to our regional horses, I personally played Fighton and Irish gold. Both failed miserably. I guess in graded races its better to follow horses from bangalore, rather than rwitc. thanks
