The Hpsl Indian Derby (gr.1) On 4th Feb (sunday)

By Sunil R | 29-Jan-2024

"JENDAYI" is poised for triumph in the Indian Derby, especially under the skilled guidance of accomplished foreign jockey Oisin Murphy; unnecessary speculation is unwarranted, pending acceptance on the card. Thanks

During his visit to India, jockey Oisin Murphy participated in an interview with the press in Mumbai. In the conversation, he emphasized that after riding a horse twice, he acquires the ability to effectively evaluate the final 100 meters, thereby improving his chances of securing a victory, especially in races with more than 10 horses. When discussing JENDAYI, Murphy expressed confidence that if given the opportunity in a significant race, the horse could establish an impressive record. Unfortunately, Oisin Murphy has withdrawn from the current race due to increased charges. P S Chouhan, who previously rode JENDAYI and secured a victory, will now take the reins. There is speculation that this might be P S Chouhan's final derby, as retirement and a transition into an assistant trainer role are being considered starting from the upcoming Monsoon season.

I have confidence in jockey Oisin Murphy, and if he participates, the chances of winning are considered to be 100%, except in the case of Did Not Finish scenarios. From a handicapping perspective, a closely contested competition between MADAM RICH and JENDAYI is anticipated. However, this time, I have reservations about placing trust in the combination of trainer Rajesh Narredu and jockey Suraj Narredu due to undisclosed reasons.

I have no intention of pressuring anyone into making bets or specifying the amount. Personally, I am leaning towards expressing 101% confidence in JENDAYI for a place bet if the odds are at least 80 paise. Otherwise, I might choose to abstain, with final decisions to be made closer to race time after observing the paddock. Wishing everyone the best of luck, and this post may serve as my final one here without additional explanations. Thank you all.

Dear Pepps, thought I'd say a quick "Hello."

Truly impressed by your writeups on this thread, in fact, after a long time do I see something sensible on this forum, because otherwise folks out here post their choices with vague write-ups about everything else other than the horse concerned.

I quite ascribe to what you have stated about Synthesis, and I was waiting to post on similar lines, but you sort of stole the words from my keyboard, may I say so, but, be it in terms of the average field rating of Jendayi, as compared to Synthesis, or the pedigree pointing to longer distances, I'd observed that too, except for those names of past winners you mentioned.

No doubt Jendayi had quite average fields to run against, and maybe it was just her good fortune that the field wasn't tough, and that she's truly good, but that would unfold on Sunday as to how good she really is.

Moving on to Synthesis, thanks for the names of the horses, from Synthesis' lineage that have won several classics, just makes me all the more confident about backing Synthesis without any fear, because I look at pedigree numbers and the lineage, and the way I look at a long distance race is quite different, and till date it has paid me rich dividends.

People usually look at the sire, but for longer distances I look at the dam, because my research tells me that for longer distances the horse needs big lungs, an attribute that comes from the dam, not the sire, and ever since, I've always been looking for longer distance numbers on the dam side, and this has paid me rich dividends, the last one being El Greco (Damsire:Multidimensional) which was at a lucrative 25/1 odds.

When a horse wins a classic everyone raves about the sire, not the dam, but my observations tell me that the best of sire, if he has no support from the dam's side invariably fails. For example, many horses with Multidimensional as sire have lost prestigious races in the past, and the ones that have won, if one were to check, it's the dam who was probably actually responsible for the win, and he mostly had Razeen as the damsire; that combination (Sire:Multidimensional Damsire:Razeen) has won most of the classic and graded races.

Now what I mentioned above is a matter of debate, and till now I doubted if  anyone on this forum might be able to shed any more light on this, the only person who I feel might be able to do so is Major Nargolkar, who writes on Indiarace about classsic races, but he's too huge a personality to be responding to my query, because I'm sure he might not be reading HT topics, but after reading yours posts I feel that with your knowledge you might be able to chat with me on this topic.

Continuing about Synthesis, if you check on the dam side he has Multidimensional as damsire and Razeen as grand damsire, now that's a heady combination, and may I be bold enough to state over here, Synthesis will ultimately turn out to be an all time great in the very near future.

As you mentioned in the last para, there's just this trifle issue about soreness in the last run, and I hope he has fully recovered from it, and if he has he will surely donkey lick this opposition, like he did in the Hyderabad Derby, where superior horses like Truth and Livermore, currently rated about 85 could not even see Synthesis' tail clearly as he flashed past the winning post.

Just a small request, Pepps, please do post regularly because I'll have someone's writeups to refer to after a long time, and decide on my final choices, and if you're from Bombay I'd love to share a cup of coffee with you over the Derby weekend, also, someone on this thread offered 50:1 on Synthesis, if you too are from here, please do meet me and accept a small bet from me, if you truly mean it, and are confident about what you say,  rather than posting just for the heck of it.

Dear Respected Sunil R Sir,

You mentioned that JENDAYI has a favorable chance of winning, especially if it is ridden by jockey Oisin Murphy. However, if there are any changes, kindly inform us. Your tips have been consistently accurate, and we greatly appreciate your insights. Unfortunately, there have been instances of misleading information from another source, causing disappointment for many followers regarding LIVERMORE in Hyderabad. We eagerly await your kind response.

In big races topic like this which gets more than 100 posts confuses readers more that it provides help. Because people give their support or opposition for horse without giving good reasons.

One horse is Synthesis. Some senior and popular forum members like him. Others don't. Only on Sunday we will know which side is correct.

Some are saying 2400 m. is too long for him. In Deccan Derby he beat Truth by 11 lengths. His dam Sana won Calcutta Oaks (2400m). She is sister of Mathaiyus (Indian St.Leger, 2800m), Mea Culpa (BangaloreOaks 2400m) and Zoya (Calcutta Oaks, 2400m). Next dam Yana won Indian Oaks but was disqualified. She also won Stayers' Cup 3000m. Yana's brother Strasky won Indian Derby. Sire of Synthesis is Speaking of Which is also sire of last year's winner Mirra. Can somebody explain why  Synthesis will not have stamina.

According to race day report Synthesis was sore after last race. He may not be fit. That is another matter. Also because a horse loses over 2400 does not mean he has no stamina. Better stayer wins the race.

Every time there is an Indian Derby everyone has his own choice. Which must be respected as this race has thrown outstanding number of outsiders beating best of the lot on that particular day. So I respect everyone's choice as race is not run on records. It depends on what happens that particular day. I my self have an experience when I played Rochester each way, my friends called me a fool cause they felt he is not bred to stay that long. So respect to one and all for their choices, but for me it's Enabler vs Jendayi... I give Enabler a better chance as his finishing power is amazing which will matter.

@Major Madan Roa Ji,

I would like to draw your attention to the initiator of the thread for the Indian Derby, Mr. S Athresh Iyer. He explicitly mentioned that he had a strong inclination that this year's Indian Derby winner would be either MIRRA or SALENTO. I kindly request you to review his post once again and refrain from placing blame on the tipster. Thank you for your understanding.

@Godzulla sir Thank you very much for putting up such a wonderful question. But before I answer let me first make it very clear that sir this forum have given all of us a opportunity to learn something new everyday. It's an honour for me where already Mr. Godzilla sir, Mr. Sunil Sir, Mr. Govindrajan sir, Mr. Decent punter sir , Mr. Ashok Mysore sir are sharing their views.

Now sir I come to your question yes I also suffered lots of loose of money in this industry when I use to play randomly. I almost hanged my boots and said bye to this industry. Than one day while searching I came to  know about

Mr. Zeljko Ranogajec, the world most famous punter from Australia. also known as," The Joker" I liked his one quote 'In Gambling if you don't learn by mistake than you are stupid "  And his other quote "Quit when you earn"

I know I was not doing anything wrong but what I was doing most time was I use to leave my horse because of odds or some one going behind other n i following them. Mainly was second.

In 2022 season I was left with just 25k and I knew it's do or die. Trust me sir that 25k is now more than  many times in my bank and I am able to run my four member family from that money.

I shared my views was not to show I know much better than others , I shared because I know when you don't have money in pocket even your shadow will leave you.  I always tell my friends n known punters to be cool and if they earn 2-3 k per day it's more than enough. You can't become millionaires in one day but yes if you keep patience one day you will

Sir this forum does not allow to share contact info otherwise I would have really been blessed had I been able to make contact with you all also

Thanks a lot for asking me and giving me chance to explain myself.

To all who believe that Mahalaxmi will shower easy money on 04-02-2024 I just want to make them aware that 99% Tipster did not gave chance to Mirra in 2023 n 200% tipsters did not dream that Rochester in 2018 could get on board leave win.

So to all please play as per situation. Tipster will just come n write sorry but you will loose your money. When card gets made than decide its utter time waste to think now. In short it's actually pretty bad concept. No one is such a big pundit in this industry who can declare who will win or loose by seeing handicap.  Sorry if my words are hurting someone but I an straight forward person n speak straight. Mr. Sunil one last request as someone else also mentioned try to post your choice once and keep stuck yourself on it, no need to change every second.  Its humble request

I request people who are hoping to see reduced numbers at Acceptance stage to kindly read Prospectus. All 17 whose names are appearing have paid Final Forfeit will accept. McKeown's two horses are not scratched due to oversight. They may be allowed not to accept but trainer will be fined.

Jendayi is unbeaten and winner of two Gr.1 races on last two starts. Fans of Jendayi should note that average field rating of those two races was 52 and 54. Jendayi may win but if she starts as favourite, she is false favourite.

Jendayi- she did not find any strong contenders in her past as other have seen tis run she needed

Enabler-faceing very very tough set now..have to see his stamina in long distance

Chorstople-a big surprise run in ruia cup..he is main contender wit good odds others all pesi won..fr jamari jendayi..now turn fr chirstople

Gaint king and exuma- these both have experience in lower class

My choice - chirstople followed by jamari and outsider 10/1 fr plce horse

Started keeping my HT name as Jamari, from the time she shed her maiden tag on her second run of the career, at that very moment felt she had the classic potential. Very happy for the horse and the entire team to get so long.

Well, Jamari has done nothing wrong. She has the winter form with her. Though the running of the Bangalore derby didn't suit her running style as the pace in the race wasn't smooth enough through the entire race, still she managed to devastate the opposition with clocking a record timing at the course, held by the Queen 'Juliette'.

The only task on her shoulder is to again run the mile and a half within 8days of time on a different track. Saying that, a few horses including the recent legend War hammer have achieved this feat in lesser than 8days.

Beaten by Enabler in the Pune derby, as she was not her 100%. Had a minor setback while traveling to Pune after the Bangalore summer campaign. After that run she's become strong bold and matured.

She is a small made filly with a great heart and with good temperament. Enjoys to move on the bit, eases the job of the rider. She's loves to travel the distance. And has the advantage to being in her purple winter form.

The team looks forward to have a sweet revenge on Enabler who's also in great form and stands tall among the colts lineup. The unknown danger comes in the form of Jendayi the stable companion who surely doesn't have the class on her side but has done nothing wrong either, most probably will again have the guidance of the Irish Champion in saddle.

If Jamari travels well and sound to Mumbai she'll be the horse to watch out. Well, said enough now lets firstly hope she's accepted by the yard for this race. And hope the trio achieve their 2nd Indian derby after Zuccareli.

Cheers! Happy Racing!

May the best horse win!

At the handicap stage there are (17) entries..which I suppose due to the tall presence of JENDAYI will come to (8)

The ones who seem to have a look and my comments are.

ENABLER: forget it 2400 not it's cup of T.

SYNTHETIC: Will struggle even to come on board.

JANARI: After Bangalore run it's proved ,she was fighting for her head thru out the trip and over the long Mahalaxmi straight, she the connection are using to ease out the tension.JAMARI will be up front ,will take lead at the 200 and then come back to the field and will fight for minors.

MADAM RICH : A bit unlucky at Bangalore, due to her tendency to hang..will be there to give a brief fight to JENDAYI.

and Finally JENDAYI: it's a ONE HORSE ONE HORSE ONE HORSE RACE .. MINIMUM 2 LENGTHS WINNER.Will allow all to be in front and like JACQUELINE she will come from mid pack and go away.

Don't look beyond her debating about chances of no hopes especially the dud SYNTHESIS is waste of time.SYNTHEDIS will struggle to even come 5 th

Each of us has a different method of analysis, and it cannot be consistent with anyone forever. I consider various parameters such as sponsors, jockeys, horse track records, owners, and trainers, etc. I will provide more details once it gets acceptance in the race card with the same jockey, as I heard during an interview long back. The city of Mumbai is buzzing with excitement as the historic Mahalakshmi Racecourse gets ready to host the centennial HPSL Indian Derby on February 4, 2024. This prestigious equestrian event marks a significant chapter in India’s horse racing legacy, promising an experience that transcends the ordinary race.

The Horse Power Sports League (HPSL) takes center stage as the title sponsor this year, injecting the event with renewed energy and a festive atmosphere. Mr. Suresh Paladugu of HPSL emphasizes that the HPSL Indian Derby (Grade 1) is not just a race but an immersive experience that combines sports, entertainment, leisure, and community building.

Organized by the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) Ltd, the Derby Weekend, spanning February 3rd and 4th, 2024, is set to be a cultural fiesta. The Bombai Parade’s Flea Market will be a major attraction, featuring a variety of food pop-ups, merchandise stalls, cocktail bars, and live music, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere.

The excitement reaches its peak on Derby Day, February 4th, where attendees can participate in a Lucky Draw with a chance to win up to Rs 10 Lakhs. The process is simple: fill out a form at the entrance and drop it into the lucky draw boxes. Additionally, the event features a bumper Jackpot, adding almost Rs 50 Lakhs to the prize pool, bringing the total to an impressive 1 Crore.

The HPSL Indian Derby 2024 is more than just a sporting event; it’s a celebration of history, culture, and community spirit, set against the backdrop of one of Mumbai’s most iconic venues. As the city gears up for this spectacular event, the anticipation is palpable, promising an unforgettable experience for all who attend.

'JENDAYI' is my first and last choice if jockey Oisin Murphy rides it in the Derby.

Jendyi  vs  Jamar  vs  Christofle

Each one capable of pulling it off from other two if run strategically. Jamari making a start to bid strategy, with Jendyi at the tail end and Cheistofle in mid bunch, traveling on till 600 meters to catch the front runners and Jendyi positioning herself to take on the bunch  (has run only in small bunches) in the Mahalaxmi 600 m straight with Jamari still in front.  Guys even Pesi won't dream of this finish.....my pick ...

C H R I S T O F L E     (to be partnered by Trvor Patel) but most likely he wud be atop Jamari  so P S Chouhsn may be astride

But the Master Trainer Pesi Shroff kudos for training all these 3 horses.

Jendayi will get a tough fight from Enabler if ridden by Suraj Narredu. Enabler clocked a smart timing of 1:59 in 2000 metres under jockey Yash Narredu. Suraj can extract a little more and my win the Indian Derby.
