It is not easy to single out the winner in Indian Derby. Those who selected Enabler as winner neads appreciation. Well done.

Out of my experience, I never prefer first and second favorite to win Indian Derby. Rank outsiders or minimum 7 to 1 horses I prefer in Indian Derby. It has been Waterloo for so many champion horses which performed very well untill Indian Derby. 

After so many years of experience I never won a single bet in Indian Derby. The shock waves Indian Derby results create have made me clueless.

Minimum bet and enjoy the event is my request to everyone.

Jendayi jamari the 2 good last race winners that also 2400 m....you just can't ignore.

But on such a big days a little miscalculation and someone else will grab the oppurtunity.

Enabler came from way behind to pip christofle on post...the power was very strong and if ridden off the pace enabler will sure be there at the post in last few seconds...

Ameerah is the one which can surprise cos he got checked at 400m in oaks run and then covered the diatance strongly to finsih 2nd...

All said and done

The fight will be between enabler jendayi while ameerah can surprise

    Good analysis based on draw position. In last 50 years there have been 7 Derbys with 12 runners. Winning draw numbers in those years are 2 twice, 5 twice and 6 thrice. This is not my study. I am taking this from article of Major Saab before last year's Derby.

Nobody is a king ???? in this flied, every horse in the Derby race has proven its capacity as per there runs. Now it comes to the jockeyship, handling the horse position and all. So it's anybody race. BTW in jockeyship and keeping the horse in winning position no body can be these 2 gentle men Suraj and Patel Trevor. So ultimately the tips given by @godzi @racebro @jitendra and others are refference to there perspective and experience. So what ever we Play just be cautious. Or else have been in hand enjoy the race.

As per my observation @godzi has given the best tips and analysis in a major events in past. So I request all of you to respect the decision of a person beyond that it's all in your hands to back which horse and it's racing bhai nobody can justify it. All the very best to all of us and may the best horse win.

It's natural to have diverse opinions in a race of the stature of Indian Derby.. Not following racing regularly these days but on paper it looks to be a competetive Derby and the horse which gets the best run will lift the Indian Derby this year.. So let's look at barrier draws and get an idea.. Irrespective of the barrier draw fighton, exuma, ameerah, constable, giant king and dream alliance are no hopers in the race. With half the field out of the picture let's see the chances

Jendayi is drawn in barrier 1 which is a negative for a horse which gets back and run on.. There's a chance of getting buried on the rails and it might have to come around the field to win. The chances of getting through from the inside would be hampered by no hopers which slowdown alarmingly from leading. So it's suicidal to wait for the passage to open on the rails.. In all possibilities it has to come to the outside and try to out run horses with better turn of foot than she has handled till now.. Looks like a herculean task for Jendayi given the circumstances of the race..

Synthesis has the perfect barrier 4 for the race and the good barrier gives the options for suraj to manoeuvre his mount as he likes. Ideally he would sit just off the pace behind the no hopers and the likes of christofle and jamari.. There's a very good chance of getting an economical run and at its best will have a fair shot at the prize.. The last start performance is below par and it wasn't pressed in the track work too.. We never know what's the level of fitness of the horse.. If the horse is for and well might well take the Derby but can't really back it with any confidence.. The sir Cecil situation all over again.. If it wins don't be surprised but I like my chances to take it on..

Jamari has barrier 6 and will get the perfect run too.. It likes to sit on the pace but from barrier 6 I don't think it would want to take on the speed battle up front.. It will get a good run but horses like giant king would make sure that jamari won't get the cozy run by injecting pace which is uncomfortable for the horse.. Its an onpacer and grinder with the pace in the race I doubt if it can sprint in the last 400.. Will be thereabouts but surely will find one or two better on the day..

Christofle is drawn 9, which isn't too bad but isn't favorable also.. From barrier 9 it's not so easy to find the rails if it is trapped wide then the chances of winning the Derby will be gone too.. It depends on the skill of Tom marquand to find the rail without using up the horse.. If it can find the rail or just sit one off the rail then there's a chance for this horse but the map is looking tricky will surely be vulnerable late in the race..

Enabler is drawn 10 which is perfect for a horse which looks to come from behind.. I absolutely hate yash narredu as a jockey but he just could not ask for a better position.. The chances of enabler will be better if the stablemate just go to the front and run like it's a mile race.. Inject pace and make it a true staying test.. With the barrier he can take care of Jendayi which will be on its inside and keep it in the pocket till he pushes the go button.. If both horses start to run at the same point enabler will beat Jendayi on any day.. The stablemate giant king is gonna take care of the on pacers by making them uncomfortable with the pace and setting a perfect tempo for Enabler to swoop them.. There are two things against this horse.. One is the jockey himself and the other is it's small size.. On paper it looks like a cake walk for this horse with all the favours in the world. Yash just have to stay out of non existent trouble and he would win the Derby with a leg in the air..

Madam rich is the extreme outside of runners which has a chance.. With that barrier, it has to follow enabler in the run I doubt any horse can beat enabler coming from behind.. 

It's a very much competetive Derby but the running of the race points towards ENABLER as the winner.. 

I didn't think I would tip yashs mount ever in a Derby but more than his own mount he would be benefitted greatly from having a stablemate in the race.. In the first 200m if you see giant king leading, it's almost certain that ENABLER wins the Derby..

R R Ruia cup winner will fail to lift Indian Derby. 

Pune Derby winner will not lift Indian Derby. Pune Derby winner will fade away after Pune Derby.

A year long well performed horse loses in Indian Derby.

First favourite and Second favourite in Indian Derby doesn't win Indian Derby.

Favourite has won I D only on few occasions. It has been Waterloo for many champion horses on number of occasions.

Only Rashid Byramji had some success in I D. Master Trainer Shroff also has limited  success in I D.

After so many years of experience I never won a single bet in I D. 

I am not a superstitious person in nature but this particular event I have no answer.

I am eagerly waiting to see who is the giant killer.

My views are as under:

1)     Jamari`s Performance while winning the Bangalore Derby in coarse record timing of 2m 28.2s was worth a Time Form Rating of 118 which is an All India Record over 2400m. The long term Track Index Multiplier – for Timing Adjustment -  for Bangalore race track is about 0.985.This is because the 400m rising straight is covered twice in a 2400m race in Bangalore. Adjusted Timing is worked out as 2m 26.0s. For more on the subject of evaluation of Time Form Ratings, refer the section on `TIME FORM` in my new book `TIME TO IMAGINE` published recently. However, it is uncertain how the travel from Bangalore to Mumbai and the short time gap between the Bangalore Derby and Indian Derby ( just 9 days) will effect her performance. I expect the winning Timing to be about 2m 27s if the going is good, and if it’s a fast run race which is to be expected in such a strong line up. So, Jamari can afford to be slower by 1 second from her best performance

2)     Madam Rich is equally good and could have beaten Jamari with a slightly better riding. Her Time Form Rating is improving with each run. She also has to contend with the same problem as Jamari ie Travelling and the short time gap between the two derbies. Between the two I prefer Madam Rich.

3)     Enabler`s Performance while winning the Ruia Cup was worth a TFR of 111. It has not run beyond 2000m, but there is nothing wrong with the Pedigree. It should get the distance, and if it can perform even as per 111 TFR it will have a good chance, and there is no reason to believe why it can`t improve on that. It may also be noted that he has beaten Jamari when the two met last time ie in the Pune Derby.

4)     Christoffle also has the same rating as Enabler, he was just a neck behind Enabler in the Ruia Cup over 2000m and not more than half a length behind Enabler the Indian 2000 guineas won by Synthesis. He has also not raced beyond 2000m, but as in case of Enabler there is no reason to believe why he cannot get the derby distance and even do better than Enabler.

5)     Synthesis has the potential to win, but he is inconsistent and that`s a big problem. If he can last the distance and run at his best  -  which has to be much better than any of his earlier runs – he can win, otherwise he may not even be in the frame.

6)     Jendayi is unbeaten and so her potential is unknown. She is also a course and distance winner. But she has to improve by at least 2.5 seconds over her last performance, which is difficult but not impossible.

In the final analysis I expect the winner to be any of the first four, ie Jamari, Madam Rich, Enabler, and Christoffle. My choice is Enabler, but I think MADAM RICH is likely to be available at good odds and hence  a very good value bet. In any case an all 24 combinations with these four in the exacta pool looks interesting to me.

Considering the way Yash rode NEW DIMENSION today,guys this guy will not win the derby he is fit only to ride at Chennai..

No judgement nothing...ENABLER also I am ruling out so

JAMARI- JENDAYI- MADAM RICH ,the one two three any which wY ..others will be miles away

PS Chouhan, the veteran jockey and president of Jockey Association of India, has never won the Indian Derby, but has ridden in this race record number of times... in recent times.. he rode for P Shroff on King's Ransom, was placed 2nd.. and Miracle placed 4th.. both were Favourites..  please consider this.. thank you

Jamari the indian derby winner

PSC on Jendayi for derby, guess that should end the debate... even a horse with 2 or 3 legs will have a better chance than Jendayi... by no means I am demeaning the horse ability but PSC just doesn't know how to deliver when it matters the most... not sure why Pesi picks him on such big stage despite letting him down on multiple occasions..

My choice for Indian Derby only JENDAYI. Bangalore derby jamari was very easy to predict as a winner pessi will win this Derby with JENDAYI ridden by PS CHOUHAN. INDIAN derby Indian jockey. Last year there was a rumour ps chouhan will retire after kings ransom win. God Zilla sir you predicted super natural for last year and synthesis for Indian Derby this year may be name starting from alphabet S. May be ps chouhan will retire.or  A(MIRRA) sunderji-saqlain S will Stop him for 2025. Good luck everyone JENDAYI.

So I will go with one and only best jokey of india Suraj . So Synthesis clear WIN

@Mumbai Derby results are always unpredictable, beyond imagination out of 12 Horses 10 are competitive, especially where PC shroff horses are in fray, Hot favourites will bite the dust 

According to me this year's Indian Derby is wide open with 5 horses has very good chance to win the Coveted Trophy They are 

1.Enabler 2. Jendayi 3.Christofle 4.Jamari & Madam Rich 

The above mentioned horses has finished their last race (1st Or very close 2nd) in smart timings

Except Madam Rich the remaining four horses had their last spurt within 5 days of the big event on mumbai trial track

Enabler Jendayi & Jamari are having their final spurts with their respective jockeys which is a big plus for their chances of winning

Christofle had final spurt by Krtish Bhagat as Tom is not available till toady

As far as DI & CD is concerd Enabler Jendayi Chritofle  & Madam Rich are better stayers

Synthesis is not on the trial track (as per indiarace track work report) so he has no winning chance according to me

For me it will be close finish May the best horse on that day win

What all points you have written in mind , I have tilted in fav of Synthesis.

However, it's a very tough job to pick a winner. One shd not trust Vet report on Synthesis. It may be probably justification for its Ruias Cup defeat.

Mostly I always see the horse ability than who is sitting on it. But sometimes jockey timing and keeping in the position is very very important.  PSC is good jockey, but he has made poor judgements in the past particularly in big races. He almost lost the oaks with immortality when he kept her way too back entering the straight and was not given the ride by the owner in the derby instead was given to Suraj after a huge drama ( coz Suraj was suspended by BTC stewards for his dubious riding on salazzar) and eventually immortality won the derby.

I wanna know whoever decided to back jendayi would still back after knowing PSC will be the jockey???? Please give your inputs 

Le harve's last crop Christofle is one horse race , the running style suggests it will make amends on longer distance no other horse will touch his tale, synthesis picked up stone in last race is good shp bet ,Jamari may pick third spot ahead of enabler.

Unfortunately I am not from Mumbai.

Two points which you may be interested in.

Madam Rich ran blinder in Bangalore but I have noticed horses who finish spectacularly dont always do it next time out. On other hand, many front runners who give up close home do betternext start.

Jendayi was ridden by Murphy last two times. He is not coming. Marquand who is coming is not riding Jendayi. Murphy had ridden Christofle last time. Is it Murphy's feedback that Christofle is better than Jendayi.

2019 : You are correct as StarSuperior was 3rd Favourte available at 8/1. SirCecil was even and Adjudicate was 3.75 

2020 :The winner Warhammer was the first fav at 3/1, Juliette was 4/1 at most times

2021 : The winner Immortality was 2nd fav at 3.75 odds, ForestFlame was fav here drifting between 2/1 and 3/1. Lagarde 3rd fav

2022 : The winner Zuccarelli was 2nd fav at 3/1, Miracle was even

2023 : you are correct as both 1st & 2nd fav King'sRansom and Supernatural didnt win

Too much discussion has gone to this race long before acceptance and long before Jockies were announced.

To cut short and arrive at winner it can only be JENDAY.It can cover last 10L in 3secs or less.

PSC can win and retire happily.

Don't be carried away by anyone 's words here . Do your homework. I did mine .

Jendayi won't place, if you see her oaks run she was searching for ground till 1600mtrs. Either she was not fit or something was done to her. Her paddock looks were also not great.

If her looks and fitness remains the same she will run out of board.

This year been 50th year for Usha stud they would like to win the Derby.

Synthesis ran a very good mock race before the last race striding long, but ran a bad race and was reported blood vessel, after blood vessel how fit the horse will be will come to know after race.

Enabler clocked best time.

Jamari record time in Bangalore, recent history suggest Bangalore horse have won more Mumbai Derby.

I will stick to jamari and enabler to fight it out in Mumbai Derby. Will final select post paddock look.

After a long time Mallesh has got a good horse in Enabler. Ruia run suggested that he will relish the longer trip better. He was finishing on with more on hand. Jamari's and Madam Rich are running the same distance within a week. Jamari's is better off than Madam due to the stable which has proved to win within a short period in Zuccareli in Bangalore and Mumbai. Madam ran a hell of a race in Bangalore with too much pampered jockey who is just like any other Jockeys in India. Now it is going to be ridden by F.Norton. The trainer doesn't inspire me for big races that too within a week.

Synthesis is out of the equation and is running to get better odds for Enabler. Narredu group is firing on all cylinders and they have won many derbies this season with the senior cousin on top. They would very much like to put the junior cousin on the Indian classic record and this is their best chance. Though the junior won the Invitation at Mumbai on Quasar which was marred by disturbances by the public and the Narredus couldn't enjoy the win in the right environment and in a pleasant manner. The presentation was done inside I think.

One final word of caution, Narredus are known for being too bookies friendly. So Synthesis can bring a surprise.

12 JANDAYI - By GLENEAGLES ( Won 8 races out of 10 runs, mainly distances upto mile, winning 4 G1 races) who is, unbeaten 4 of 4 might become the best horse in India if it wins the Derby. Last win came from last to first winning by 9L over 2400m in Oaks clocking 2:29:80. I see the only danger coming from 2 CHRISTOFLE by LE HAVRE 7 Runs 4 Wins, 1 2nd and 2 3rds. Last run was the only one over 2000m a Nk 2nd to Enabler clocking 2:00:00 LE HAVRE record ( 3 Runs 2Wins, G1 Winner over 2000M in France). Therefore 2400m will suit.

My order of preference:

JANDAYI - WIN

CHRISTOFLE - SHP

ENABLER - PLACE

JAMARI - 4th

An highly biased review. Just bcz  he had advocated Synthesis long back for derby he is sticking to it pulling down the chances of others.

Dear Pepps, thought I'd say a quick "Hello."

Truly impressed by your writeups on this thread, in fact, after a long time do I see something sensible on this forum, because otherwise folks out here post their choices with vague write-ups about everything else other than the horse concerned.

I quite ascribe to what you have stated about Synthesis, and I was waiting to post on similar lines, but you sort of stole the words from my keyboard, may I say so, but, be it in terms of the average field rating of Jendayi, as compared to Synthesis, or the pedigree pointing to longer distances, I'd observed that too, except for those names of past winners you mentioned.

No doubt Jendayi had quite average fields to run against, and maybe it was just her good fortune that the field wasn't tough, and that she's truly good, but that would unfold on Sunday as to how good she really is.

Moving on to Synthesis, thanks for the names of the horses, from Synthesis' lineage that have won several classics, just makes me all the more confident about backing Synthesis without any fear, because I look at pedigree numbers and the lineage, and the way I look at a long distance race is quite different, and till date it has paid me rich dividends.

People usually look at the sire, but for longer distances I look at the dam, because my research tells me that for longer distances the horse needs big lungs, an attribute that comes from the dam, not the sire, and ever since, I've always been looking for longer distance numbers on the dam side, and this has paid me rich dividends, the last one being El Greco (Damsire:Multidimensional) which was at a lucrative 25/1 odds.

When a horse wins a classic everyone raves about the sire, not the dam, but my observations tell me that the best of sire, if he has no support from the dam's side invariably fails. For example, many horses with Multidimensional as sire have lost prestigious races in the past, and the ones that have won, if one were to check, it's the dam who was probably actually responsible for the win, and he mostly had Razeen as the damsire; that combination (Sire:Multidimensional Damsire:Razeen) has won most of the classic and graded races.

Now what I mentioned above is a matter of debate, and till now I doubted if  anyone on this forum might be able to shed any more light on this, the only person who I feel might be able to do so is Major Nargolkar, who writes on Indiarace about classsic races, but he's too huge a personality to be responding to my query, because I'm sure he might not be reading HT topics, but after reading yours posts I feel that with your knowledge you might be able to chat with me on this topic.

Continuing about Synthesis, if you check on the dam side he has Multidimensional as damsire and Razeen as grand damsire, now that's a heady combination, and may I be bold enough to state over here, Synthesis will ultimately turn out to be an all time great in the very near future.

As you mentioned in the last para, there's just this trifle issue about soreness in the last run, and I hope he has fully recovered from it, and if he has he will surely donkey lick this opposition, like he did in the Hyderabad Derby, where superior horses like Truth and Livermore, currently rated about 85 could not even see Synthesis' tail clearly as he flashed past the winning post.

Just a small request, Pepps, please do post regularly because I'll have someone's writeups to refer to after a long time, and decide on my final choices, and if you're from Bombay I'd love to share a cup of coffee with you over the Derby weekend, also, someone on this thread offered 50:1 on Synthesis, if you too are from here, please do meet me and accept a small bet from me, if you truly mean it, and are confident about what you say,  rather than posting just for the heck of it.

After a long time they have kept a very interesting Derby this time very competitive and anything can happen in this race.

Literally all horse have proven themselves but unfortunately only one will take the prize

My small analysis.

Jamari: after super storm won the banglore Derby in eight days won the Indian Derby this was seen again by zucarelli and war hammer.but unfortunately all were colt and gelded though jamari broke the track record she's a filly after all we can't put all the load on her.but she can run a forward race

Synthesis: returned lame last time I think this horse needs some time to cover up back again.

Enabler: fastest moving horse but struggled to beat cristofe last time.

Cristofe: moved really well last time but lost on post so can't calculate this horse properly.

Jendayi: till date did nothing wrong so far course and distance winner with preparation time winner of graded race as well as distance and with osin Murphy in saddle who rode it twice last time I think this is the horse to be beaten.

But at the end u never know.

If jendayi not winning I think the race can go to upset.

Long time there is no upset in Indian Derby hope it happens this time

There is a reference to the dam lineage of SYNTHESIS.....YANA.

There are several YANA duds loitering in class A and sone yet to win a race.

There is a lot of difference winning a 2000 and then the additional 400 nts.The whole gambit changes a smashing winner in 2000 there are umpteen examples which have struggled over 2400.

The very fact that SYNTHESIS beat TRUTH.a nedicre sort who struggled even in Kolkata derby and finished third.

SYNTHESIS it's last run itself proves that it will be a ALSO RAN in the derby.In ruia ENABLER- CHRISTOPHE - CAPITOLIUM beat it by 5.5 lengths,no body what ever be the training nethid can improve 5 lengths 

The very fact that SYNTHESIS could not beat a dud like CAPITOLIUM prices that it will be not sighted.

At best it will finish 4 th.

The ones in the fight over the last 400 mts will be .

JENDAYI- JAMARI- MADAM RICH- ENABLER..JENDAYI- will win and others will fill the frame.

Derby  is better to be left  ,P.Shroff has 5 horses ???? running and the ???? magician will do the trick ????

Synthesis must beat 4 horses to win it's a tall ask would go with Jendayi or Enabler

Jamari in period of 8 days .. might give a fight. Enabler will be in the finish. 

As per the rating.. I like the above 3 horses to fight it out. 

@godzi....  Madam rich should finish atleast 3rd if the race is fast... U r misleading people... Fast race will favour madam rich... And enabler was picking up in the last strides of ruia gold cup... So nobody can beat enabler... 

Madam Rich will beat this bunch of all Dons. let's see last year Antony raj with Mirra & Now Saqlain with Madam Rich

t's Jamari vs Synthesis former having the slight edge to win the prestigious Indian derby, a tough fight is expected in between the above two only. Jenday will not come into picture at all

Godzilla I am shocked to see synthesis as winner by you.  No way. He is good at Mysore  Hyderabad Ooty Chennai not Mumbai.... He won't be able to stand... I am confident.... 

@Godzilla your reading about Synthesis I won't question but your reading about AMEERAH is questionable. You saying he lost by 9lengths , I agree, if you watch that race again you will see that these two horses came out from neibhouring draws(4-5)....At last bend if you look JENDAYI took run from outside n AMEERAH was trying to challenge him from railings but he got stuck and had to check his mount. If Saqlain had moved well than finishing would have been different. Please check.

Godzyy sir.!! you are great at your selections bt on derby there no one beat JENDAYI only a tough competitor would be ENABLER and JAMARI .!

I also like synthesis as A mehra will fight for honours I know jamari won't be winning the Derby and jendayi as you said races with week contenders but Christofle is Considered to be best horse when he Champaigned in banglore and Shroff for some reason it is running style as not changed and I know and believe Shroff is a Talented professional who will give a shock so I strongly suggest Christofle for each way chance rather going behind favs check the owners of Christofle!! The race is for the owners not the public

Godzilla lots of aspects you missing. 

Synthesis after Deccan Derby have ran twice n his performance was sub standard. The bunch synthesis beat was having Hyderabad horses but in Mumbai he is going to have Ammerah JANDAYI Jamari... Do you think it's as easy as you described.... I doubt....

Pessi Sir knows the potential of the horse Christofle and he won't let the owners always go for lower odds. Well prepared horse, matured newly and would be placed 8/1 easily because last time the horse did not responded though the race was designed for Murphy. Better luck this time.

Synthesis did allow Enabler to win hence just like many centres in recent past, their positions would be reversed. Pesi has always been lucky with filies so his contingent of 4 comes down to the J and J. Jendayi is lightly raced and Pesi didn't risk taking it to any other centre to avoid any mishaps. Jamari won the BLR derby in record timing although Madam Rich was coming at it. But that was a different day and a different race, she's proved her capabilities. As per reliable sources Jamari is to be ridden by Trevor and Jendayi by PS Chauhan. I feel Chauhan is well past his prime so I tilt towards Jamari (Big Trevor Fan). Jamari has to fight Synthesis (Suraj is having a dream run in Classics). I would still go with Pesi to deliver as he is the only trainer in India who even the Narredu family would find difficult to overcome. So JAMARI would give The Dhunjiboys, Pesi and Trevor a day to cherish.

Brother jitender kumar war hammer was field favourite wen it won Mumbai derby so also desert god 2nd favourite and also star is born....2nd favourite.... Jacqueline market favourite....and so on ....have won brother

The only concern is odds bookies can't dare to offer more than 70 paisa

If Synthesis ran a poor race last time, then why Connection running here. 

They could have taken chance in Hyd Derby or Bangalore Derby ..he could have won.

You gave all 13 horses details but in end you stood with wrong horse.  Anyway let's see what's odds comes. Still JENDAYI unbeatable

@ Godzy your selection as SYNTHESIS for winner on ground that he have been winner of Deccan Derby in October. I hope it stand up-to your expectations but Please don't forget that since 2019 till 2023 Indian Derby have never been favourite. I mean both 1st n 2nd favourite not won
