I remember S.Rajesh developing a fine partnership with two class 1 horses. One was TEMPT ME NOT and the other talented horse was MR BELVEDERE .

04-Mar-2024Om Shanti.
The talented son of Trainer Samarsingh and owner Shanti devi. He used to ride with below 50 kg weight and a sensible rider in sprint races. Most of his sprint wins are from running behind the group. He never got open chances in life to ride in big races and kept as reserve like RV Gowli during younger days.
One of the finest ride I still remembered is win over Sinque onwned by Vijay mallya and trained by Darius. It is the longest priced horse in a quality group where Shroff and Ruzzan are first and second favourite and Aslam and Satheesh narredu are next favourite in Bangalore turf club trophy in summer 1998 . He brought the horse with precise handling and won in a blanket finish of 9 runners out of 11 .
He lost his family in a car accident and slowly addicted to alchohol. His brother Rakesh and Father tried their best to bring him back to normalcy bu failed. It is just fate.
Om Shanti

04-Mar-2024S. Rajesh was the son of late ex-trainer Samar Singh, and Rakesh and Vishal Yadav, currently trainers at Mysore, are his siblings.
He is one of the very few who rode winners for the late MAM Ramaswamy, the late D. Khaitan, Dr. Vijay Mallya, and K.N. Dhunjibhoy.
He was a lightweight rider, did quite well in the late eighties and nineties, and had winners in double digits in his hey days. As said before by JP, Protege was his lone Indian classic winner.
He lost his wife a few years back in a road accident and thereafter slowly slipped into depression, taking to alcohol to curb it. I had spoken to him a few weeks back and could observe that his indulgence in it was taking its toll. He looked almost skelitical and appeared emanciated, and his voice was low and feeble. As such, for me, it did not come as a surprise, for it looked inevitable given his pitiable health conditions brought upon by his overindulgence in alcohol.
He always spoke about becoming a trainer, but he never tried to actively pursue it.
He is survived by a son and a daughter.

04-Mar-2024My heartfelt condolences to S.Rajesh’s family & friends! May his soul seek eternal salvation!
I fondly recollect his partnership with trainers to the likes of NA Ponnappa, Sardar Singh, Mohan Valavi, & of-course his dad Samar Singh, his wins on Mr. Belvedere, Tempt Me Not, Hillary, Enough Is Enough, etc…. comes to my head! Also he winning The Indian St. Leger on Protégé, beating some serious heavyweights was commendable! Besides that, he also picked-up some smart wins at Bombay for the owner Messes Shyam Ruia (before Neeraj earning his loyalties with the Ruias!)
Both he & his brother (Rakesh) rode & helped to bring horses to hand for his father Samar Singh! We all know Rakesh’s success stint as a trainer & owner in Mysore, Madras, etc… but Rajesh took alcohol, and alcohol took him down & put him out of business for good, and losing his credibility & friends with-in the racing fraternity !
May his soul rest in peace!

03-Mar-2024I remember because of a horse called Protege which won the St.Leger for KND. Though Mallesh was there S.Rajesh was given this ride to get good odds. It was available at 15/1 @ Chennai and before I could back one of his punter connection backed it. I could get only 10/1. I was able to solve the JP which was around Rs.50000/. After winning this race he got another chance ride on another horse of KND in the last race which was to be ridden by Mallesh. Mallesh declared unfit and S Rajesh rode it and it was backed to the exclusion of the rest with an expected hope of double for S Rajesh and KND group. It flopped.
Om Shanti, Om Shanti,Om Shanti ????????????

03-Mar-2024Oh, that's shocking if not surprising ! This rider used to make Aslam Khader drink water. I have played Rajesh against Aslam on many occasions when Aslam's horse used to be on-money fav and Rajesh at 5/1 and above. I was told Rajesh took to drinks in Bangalore soon after he began losing orders from trainers. He used to loiter in the race club asking 'big' punters to play for him although all these were only hearsay. Poor fellow, let's his soul rest in peace.
