How To Read Trackwork To Find Possible Potential Winner?

By Thunderstrike | 22-Mar-2024

Good morning to everyone, I have noticed many tipsters stating good trackwork and most of the horses have actually won.

How does one read trackwork of a horse ?

What are the pointers one has to note in the trackwork ?

What do you mean by these statements while reading trackwork , how useful are these to understand the form of the horse ..

"Ignore Last Run"

"Stretched Out Well"

"Caught the eye "

"Stretched In The Last Part"

"Extended"

"Impressed"

"Moved on the bit"

"Urged"

"Handy"

And many more,..

Also , what is the significance of rider boy or any other Jockey while they do the trackwork?

How do you read time clocked in Inner sand , outer sand , race grass etc ?

What is the use of gate practice and mock races ?.

If I am Missing please add on , dear seniors and experts please share your valuable knowledge to enlighten people like us to learn more to get better accuracy .

Thank you

TRACK WORK IS JUST NOVEL READING.

AS PER TRACK WORK,  DO NOT BET.

TO PREFER ONLY THE HORSE FORM.

TO READ CAREFULLY RATINGS.

TO PREFER ONLY IMPROVERS

@Thunderstrike

I am suprised you are not aware  of trackwork  and  don't know what .

But with help of other fellow Indiarace HT members you are doing very good . Your XFINITY  and MATHANGI came second with a fighting spirit.

May God bless you with knowledge and bless all the Indiarace HT members helping out each other.

The way you ignored IMMORTAL GUEST today in Delhi , with help of Indiarace HT members was exceptional.

Regards

@Mishti - Thanks so much for your explanation and inputs on each and every term that is being used for Trackwork. It helps many of us to understand and give importance to look at the "trackwork section" of the race card before jumping on to conclusions..

Thanks again.

First time I am giving my views on track work

Always see the latest track work. When any horse giving 600 mtrs. Track on O.S. if 36 no one can beat.

Who is giving track work is most important, if same jockey is riding is more beneficial.

@Thunderstrike. Don't go back to 2 months old tracking. Will mislead. As per latest Champ...... Is peaking vs. Mathangi.

@Thunderstike

In Indian horse track trial reports, these terms are used to describe the performance of horses during their trials:

Unextended: The horse was not pushed to its full potential and ran comfortably without being asked for maximum effort.

Urged: The jockey encouraged the horse to go faster, typically by using the reins or voice commands.

Hard Held: The horse is being restrained and kept under control by the jockey, not allowed to run freely.

Impressed: The horse performed exceptionally well, showing signs of good form and potential for future races.

Ignore Last Run: This suggests that the horse’s last race performance in race should not be considered, possibly due to an anomaly or misrepresentation of true ability.

Stretched Out Well: The horse extended itself fully, demonstrating good stride and stamina.

Caught the Eye: The horse did something notable that made it stand out, often a sign of good form or potential.

Stretched In The Last Part: The horse was extended towards the end of the trial, showing a strong finish.

Moved on the Bit: The horse responded well to the jockey’s commands through the bit, indicating alertness and readiness.

Handy: The horse is performing well and is in a good position, often with minimal effort.

Moved Absolutely Easy: The horse moved very smoothly and effortlessly, without being asked for any serious exertion.

Note: This term is often used to indicate that there is something noteworthy about the horse’s performance or condition that should be remembered or considered for future reference.

Pleased: The horse’s performance met or exceeded the expectations of the trainer or jockey.

What are views on Kolkata 23rd March, 3rd race Mathangi's trackwork ?

Two mock races and one outer sand track work with SheZ R Star .

I know Champagnesupernova has tracked with Harvestime and Blue Chip

Also , "Champagnesupernova (R. Shelar), Blue Chip (P. Tejeshwar ), 36.5 both jumped out well. (Keep note of both) " 13th Jan 2024

When it says "keep note of both , Blue Chip on 16th Jan Finished 4th.

Also , Harvestime won on 20th Jan.

Now which one do you think is better

"Mathangi or  Champagnesupernova"

Is mock races more important compared to given trackworks ?

@Thunderstrike. In continuation. Many times you will may find a lower class horse tracking with a higher class one. So definitely trying and also made ready. And many times you will see the main jockey riding on another horse and tracking with the horse he is going to ride. This is to see and judge the running of the horse. Again definitely trying. Quite a few points actually in how to see trackwork. Will take up lots of space.

Neeyat \ intention - intent can be to win and also to lose- now with both intentions in play race betting becomes dangerous for punters- this is the main reason punters win percentage is very low.

Track work is on different types

Outersand  , inner sand , grass track of all the 3 sand track practice is best if a horse clocks well on sand track practice it shall win easily  .Gate practice given for fluke horse those trainers who doen't show track and secretly hide .Rider boy with good track show means trainers  looking for higher odds . All those terms used caught the eye, pleased, moved a bit are expressions how a horse performed during practice.

@ Thunderstrike - This is a very good and critical discussion thread. Even I've been following various trackwork comments and wanted to understand more on those.

Some of the additional ones as below:

"Unextended"

"Pleased"

"Moved Absolutely Easy"

Also, how can we analyse the time taken against the mtr run during the trackwork and come to a conclusion whether that is good or fair..

Ajoy said ...

@Thunderstrike. All those terms are indicative of the readiness of the horse. If fully extended and timings is not good avoid the horse. Out of all this I generally look for Hard Held,On tight reigns and Moved on the bit. But remember, the track reporter should be a trained expert and an eye to understand. If the reporter is not good to see the signs his reports will be misleading. Outer  sand is the slowest ,then Inner sand and fastest is race grass. So a minus 5 in outer is far better than a -10 on grass.. Gate practice is just as name suggests so they get used to loading and starting from gate.
