In 2022-23 we conducted about 2000 races, Compare that with England which produces around 4500 foals annually and conducts a little over 6,000 races each year.

Lesser number of foals means lesser number of races. That is a crisis which needs immediate attention.

Covid alone cannot explain how our foal crop today is only in three figures from an all-time high of 1902 foals in 2011.

                  The illegal betting is flourishing because the taxes are too high in India . While placing a bet you have to  pay 28% GST and while recieving the pay out TDS is deducted . At this rate of tax loot .  the survival of not only racing industry is difficult but other industries and busnissess are also suffering .the Govt is purely responsile for this mess & not the industry .Imagine selling a item for Rs 100/- and paying Rs 28 as GST , what is the profit left after deducting the capital, if no or  meagre profit is earned , then why to continue business .  The smuggling  of Gold in the 1970-80 was because import duty was high , as the duty was reduced so smuggling finished. I am glad that you have an approach to the PM & FM , kindly  not only convey them  but also convince them the benefits of low taxasation  , so that all illegal betting will be eliminated , Govt tax collection will boom and all industries (racing or any other ) will flourish.

Mr. Dass is right. Why not think of making a joint representation for bringing down the level of GST. Horse racing is probably the only legal gambling where results cannot be computerized. It is a flourishing industry but considered taboo by the ruling dispensation. Joint efforts should be made for growth of this sport which is considered the King of Sports

12 % GST on sale if you check the figures with GST department I doubt true value GST is paid. Racing industry is similar to textile industry.plenty of cash compoenent but they settled on 5 % GST after lot of follow up and collective representation with Governemnt. Turf Clubs dont have collective policy only. If Industry complies Governemnt will support reduction in GST. I guarentee you.
