I've come to understand there's a fine line between confidence and overconfidence. For instance, had I been overconfident, I might have blindly played 1 peti on Schoenberg without much thought. Instead, I trusted my analysis and placed a calculated bet of 30k  nothing more because I have to keep confidence on my selection but not overconfidence.

Horse racing may be a sport to some and a business to others, but for me, it's a genuine part of my earnings. And that’s a reality many acknowledge. I never place a bet without thorough preparation.

Today, when I entered the racecourse, the 5th race was in progress. I was confident the favorite —Pretty Move  wouldn't win. Yet I didn’t rush to place a SHP or THP bet against it either, because I didn’t feel a strong conviction. That’s the key only bet when you’re sure. In this game, unless you have confidence in your selections, you’ll end up distracted, chasing losses.

In conclusion, while it’s true that at the end of the day, it’s about the horses, I firmly believe that 90% of the time, the merit of the horse prevails if the analysis is right.

Tough day… 32.5k hammered today. 

@PureHandicapping — I saw your post, and honestly brother, I’m really sorry to hear what happened. I don’t know how such a big hit came your way, but I truly feel for you. I also lost today on Schoenberg, so I can’t say much either. But I’ll share this from the heart in my 7–8 years of racing experience, which is still modest compared to many in HT, I’ve never played with that kind of volume in a single day.

The highest I’ve ever staked in one race was 1 lakh, back in 2019 during a Grade 2 in Bangalore. The horse was Roberta  80 paisa place favourite was Desert God and 2nd favourite was salazaar. I played SHP ?10k, THP ?10k, and ?80k on place. It turned out well. Roberta trainer p shroff and jockey trevor..gave me both SHP and place, finishing just a close behind Desert God. Almost pulled off a win. I remember spending half a day analysing that race, checking every possible angle before committing.

Why I’m sharing this is because once your stake crosses 5–10 lakhs, every step has to be ultra-calculated. I personally follow a 300-point system where I assign points for factors like equipment changes, track condition, recent runs, weight, handicap, jockey, trainer, penetrometer, shoes, and more. If a horse scores at least 60 points more than the rest, only then do I bracket it as a lead contender.

Yesterday, Schoenberg, Malhar, and Gold Empire all scored almost equally in my system. I finally went with Schoenberg for several solid reasons… but still lost.

But brother, seeing someone as sharp as you take such a big hit..it’s hard to digest. I’m glad you managed at least one recovery. You will bounce back, but don’t rush into the next play. Regroup. Reset. From a fellow HT mate I genuinely felt bad reading about your loss.

It was a disappointing day for me too. Schoenberg couldn’t even land the place. But this is racing.
