I think he did well to win in the end. But way Fynbos ran and accelerated in the straight it was hats off. 

Taking away nothing from Tom Marquand, I did realise one thing of his riding at least in India. He needs a cut above horse which can run at a very strong pace and respond to hard urging. 

It was simply a take away Derby loss for P. Trevor, who would have won it handsomely as well. It was only matter of trainer being too harsh for one misjudged ride. Costed Trevor 2 group 1 races. Probably most important for fillies. The Oaks and the Derby.

While all eyes are on Bachymo and Fynbos , there is Zakkarias who can spring a surprise.

I don't know what is the actual challenge Tom faces in India. May be he is completely confused of pace in India. May be he has not got the judgement of straight at Mahalaxmi still. Something is quite not upto what can give you a confidence for Derby. 

And he is against Suraj, who is at his prime. If Fynbos would have been ridden by Trevor it would have won with guarantee. Now it seems open affair. 

FYNBOS(f)is the horse to be beaten , BAYCHIMO(c) with suraj should show why is number 1 ace jockey in India and give hell a lot of fight let's see, zacharia will come close .

Derby . Like I posted elsewhere too. Don't look beyond Fynbos. It's because she is in peak condition. Tracking on 29th Jan says HARD HELD. I have played successfully many horses with such tracks( in face that is the first thing I look in the days tracks.,). Never had such horses lost.

Eat Fynbose, play zucharias and Baychimo as Tom Marquand  win even a single race till date in India, He rides total 9 race but % ofwin 00000000.

May or may not be, maximum time Derby winer comes from the 2000G batch.

Completely disagree that Trevor is not upto suraj or sandesh , he's a cleaver rider and obliges his masters.  Fentastic temperament and he can really place horse very well, I don't see that in both the S/S, hence if given an opinion Trevor is way a head and a class apart. I tend to like A Prakash alot these days, he'll be another Trevor in making.

Tom yet to win on Mahalaxmi track , doesn't give me confidence and looks like may hurt the chance of Fynbos as well.  Trevor can do a better job on FB and may place .

@Godzilla.. your comment that Trevor has better temperament over Suraj in big races is surprising. Two best Indian jockeys for big events are Suraj and Sandesh. 

Pesi is gonna have Fynboss mid pack and not off the pace like Trevor used to ride her...if the pace is too hot then we are looking at a very consistent strider Sovereign King or Zacharias up there at the finish.  

Sovereign King needs a good jump to settle 4th 5th....and we have a race on our hands.

Another very important aspect if Jockey climatization.  The  days gone by where we had a while bunch of Jockeys like NG Jimmy Fallon Hughes Mark Gallagher Nick connorton Gary Hind Nigel Adams in India for the season till the end of the classics.  They were used to the weather  conditions.  Here now a days fly in for big races and fly out makes a difference even if its a 5 % on Jockeys riding.

Tom is my favourite long distance Jockey  He adjusts the position cleverly and rides. He wins from outside most of the time  He will not go without a fight 

Suraj on BAYCHIMO can still win. The dash of last part may bring down strong contenders and floor them all.

I would have still preferred Trevor to Suraj, who has class and temperament to win big classics.

Based on Pedigreestar analysis winner can emerge from following. Upset is very liklely. Young jockeys Anthony Raj, Yash have a chance to upset My First Choice is Kings Gambit

How can anybody give the last runners a chance in this derby hence they all r 5 yrs in this category. This derby is for 4 years old only. By class and by performance fynbos is top anybody who can beat her if connection permits is kings gambit only. 

How can a 2000 winner challenges a top class horse.

Mumbai derby 2026 , on merit the actual competition is in between Sovereign king and fynbos , in pure handicapping Sovereign king is better than fynbos . Better to play Sovereign king each way 

Has anybody noted that top three finishers of Indian Derby 2025 have not been given a ride this year in the Indian Derby. Is it just a coincidence or a meticulous planning.

Both the charming Tom Marquand and his wife Hollie Doyle have ridden winners for us on several occasions in the UK. 

In fact on THE Derby day at Epsom 2025 (we had a horse entered on the day's card, and some fellow Owners had 'Lazy Griff' in the Derby itself, which came third or something @40/1). my wife and I had the great pleasure to share a table with Tom's mum Shelley and Hollie's mum Caroline. 

Two lovelier and more friendly ladies you couldn't ask for. Tom and Hollie have known each other since childhood pony racing days.

Fynboss is far better than baychimo.... she will cruise mind my words she will cruise in 400 mts mark and will fly in last 200 mts... tom marquand is booked beacuse .. trainer want to give best from his side for winning.... even if fynboss faces traffic in running the race she will win by atleast half a length... dont worry... just cheer for fynboss..

If Tom is riding any fav,  then forget it to be on board.

Sir that's the answer we all need,he has been given rides to get used to the track.. Hopefully he comes up right..we ought to watch his rides starting from race 2 Saturday 31st January where he is riding matisse who he has a fight on with Zafferano
