Kolkatta Races - April 03, 2026

As the curtain comes down for the season, a card with 8 races and with full fields has been framed for the day. Winner picking does not look easy but some of the fancied horses may oblige. Overall, it is not an easy day for betting.

But racegoers take their chances and here are my selections for the day:

Race 1: The most difficult race of the day. Out of 9 horses, 7 are trained by Rutherford Alford. And he has engaged P Trevor to ride DIAMOND GOLD. This horse has run many times this season and not performed when fancied. I would take my chance with 3- NO WORRY (Hindu Singh). This horse is as good as any other in this set and may get a PLACE.

3- NO WORRY 

Race 2: There are 13 runners going over a distance of 1400 M. 1- INDIAN JACK has done nothing of note during the season but P Trevor rides . Maybe among the fancied lot. 5- ROYAL KING (Suraj Narredu) is a 8 year old last start winner and gets the top jockey. 10- SCHWARZENNEGER ran good races over 1100 M and 1200 M before performing poorly in the last run over 1400 M. But this horse deserves another chance in a set where none of the contenders is outstanding.

10- SCHWARZENNEGER (Hindu Singh)

Race 3: 1100 M - 8 runners . Looks to be a strainght contest between 1- CACHE and 3- NOORIE. I would go with NOORIE as this horse has been more consistent throgh the season and may end the season with a win.

3- NOORIE ( R Vaibhav)

Race 4: 1100 M - 8 runners . Small but competitive field . SIR WINSTON with Suraj Narredu is the likely favourite . My choice would be MIDNIGHT BLUE for a PLACE bet.

6- MIDNIGHT BLUE (Vishal Bunde)

Race 5: 1600 M - 13 runners. Apparently a good contest with ROYAL MEMBER, VERRAZZANO , ANANTA SUKHA  and CARNATION running with a good chance. CARNATION was 2nd to ROYAL MEMBER over same distance last time and both are running in the higher class with low weights. With better jockey assistance, CARNATION can score.

9- CARNTION (Neeraj Rawal)

Race 6: 1200 M - 13 runners. A contest for horses with rating 61-86. CASHA, OISHIKA, CONJURER, POLKA DOT are the main contenders. I would go with 6- OISHIKA as it is better placed in weights as compared to CASHA. CONJURER had won very well last time but that was over 1400 M. Earler it had lost to OISHIKA who has the advantage of inner draw in a big field.

6- OISHIKA (A Prakash) 

Race 7: 1200 M - 14 runners  A tough race to call. I would go with last start winner SURPRISE FANTASY. Not an easy race but with P trevor riding, chances are good.

4- SURPRISE FANTASY (P Trevor)

Race 8: 1200 M - 14 runners. Once again a big field . We have ENCHANTING, CORTADO and GIMMLER who are all last start winners. And there is JIMMY BEE a very consistent runner. It is a very difficult choice but I would persist with JIMMY BEE.

Class b race, Trainer Rutherford Alford has 7 mounts in this race of which the above four from his stable have credentials here to fight out. Though Diamond gold is good compared to other three, The jockey on Made in heaven is Jaden Alford son of RCTC ex-champion jockey Christopher Alford, has better placed than third and fourth to upset on gambling.(Watch the riding of Jayden Alford in his debut mount)

1-6 A WINK ANNDA SMILE - A recent winner over 1200m 1:13:92 with Azhar in the saddle who is riding again. Going in same category and class, I am sure will win again. 7 DIAMOND GOLD will place for sure.

2-12 STAR PRIDE - Ignore the last run over 1100m 1:7:06 ridden by Arman Khan,  previously ran well over 1400m. Now booking of Ashad Asbar is positive and might come out of maiden ranks. Is a 4yr old as many are aged.

3-3 NOORIE - Five runs, two 2nds and three 3rd. Last run in Jan over 1400m. Now going over 1100m which will suit and might go wire to wire. 4 RUDRA will be a good place bet.

4-8 HORUS THE GREAT - Recent run a very good 2nd and 4th over 1200m 1:13:30 with Hasib Alam in the saddle. Now an apprentice on board with -5Kg is a huge advantage, but the jockey should guide well. 1 SIR WINSTON is the danger with Suraj in the saddle.

5-4 VERRAZZANO - Recent winner over 1600m start to finish 1:38:81 with AA Vikranth in the saddle. Extra 3.5Kg will not be an issue, Suraj in the saddle. This is the DAYS BEST bet.

6-1 APEROL - Ran a very good 2nd over 1200m 1:12:15. Now going over the same distance with AA in the saddle. Should perform well. 12 ROMAN SPIRIT who finished 2nd over 1100m. Now going over 1200m will suit and should place for sure.

7-10 WATCH MY STRIDE - Recent 2nd over 1100m. A win is due and will be winning this time with Vishal in the saddle who is retained to ride.

8-2 ENCHANTING - Suraj will repeat.

RACE 1 : Hrs no 1 (*DUBAI PRINCE*) ignor his last outing over mile, now tried in his ideal trip of 6 furlongs, new 5kg claimer jockey taking his first ride of his career, if intend positive can be right there in the finish today. 

Hrs no 7 (*DIAMOND GOLD*) shapes as main danger. 

RACE 2 : Hrs no 1 (*INDIAN JACK*) C&D winner in past, ignor his runs in higher class, now dropped down in lowest class and going in his ideal trip, ace jockey engaged on top, can be lucky enough to register his first win of the season today.
