Race 1: The Captain Cook Handicap Div. I (Class V, 1-26) — 1600M
WIN HORSE: 1. OLAF
Why Selected: Holds a distinct class advantage over this field. Has built ideal stamina for the mile distance and stays the trip exceptionally well. Top contender despite carrying joint-top weight.
DANGER HORSE: 3. NORTHBOUND
Why Dangerous: A seasoned campaigner who possesses dynamic early speed. If allowed to dictate a slow tempo in front, he could prove very ifficult to catch down the home stretch.
Race 2: The Captain Cook Handicap Div. II (Class V, 1-26) — 1600M
WIN HORSE: 2. REAL HAPPINESS
Why Selected:Displays superior form compared to his division rivals. His ability to sustain a long, powerful finish gives him the upper hand over 1600M.
DANGER HORSE: 4. SEONA
Why Dangerous: An unexposed 3-year-old filly with massive potential for improvement. Receives a weight pull and can strike late if the race turns into a stamina contest.
Race 3: The Amorina Handicap (Class IV, 21-46) — 1600M
WIN HORSE: 1. DON'TSTOPTHEMUSIC
Why Selected: Comes in peak physical condition with unmatched race-fitness. Has proven ability over the distance and holds a clear edge in overall performance.
DANGER HORSE: 7. CAPE TIGANI
Why Dangerous: A lightly raced contender with an explosive turn of foot. If the top-weight tires late, he will be charging hard inside the final furlong.
Race 4: The Tiger Tops Handicap (Class II, 61-86) — 1600M
WIN HORSE: 7. TIMELESS FORTUNE
Why Selected: Extremely well-handicapped and coming into form at the right time. Her sharp acceleration in the closing stages makes her the horse to beat.
DANGER HORSE: 1. RAFFAELLO
Why Dangerous: The highest-rated runner in the field with proven Class II pedigree. Possesses relentless stamina and will be grinding down the leaders in the final stages.
Race 5: The Destroyer Cup (Class III, 41-66) — 1400
WIN HORSE: 2. FOUJITA
Why Selected: A razor-sharp sprinter dropping back to a very suitable 1400m journey. Has the tactical speed to secure a prime position and launch a winning burst.
DANGER HORSE: 7. QUEEN ANULA
Why Dangerous: Known for her brilliant gate speed. If she jumps clean and controls the lead without early pressure, she can go all the way pillar-to-post.
Race 6: The A Star Is Born Cup (Class I, 81 & above) — 2000M
WIN HORSE: 3.SATIVUR
Why Selected: A premier Class I stayer with proven credentials over ten furlongs. Races with high efficiency and holds the strongest finishing record at this distance.
DANGER HORSE: 4.BHUJANG
Why Dangerous: .A formidable rival who thrives in tactical endurance battles. Can threaten the favorite if he adopts an aggressive front-running strategy.
Race 7: The Monsoon Cup (Class Terms) — 2000M
WIN HORSE: 1.TRAKILA
Why Selected: Clear standout performer. Won her Mock Race handily and clocked an extraordinary 1400m track gallop in 1.31 with an explosive 23.4s final 400m acceleration.
DANGER HORSE: 4. CASHIUS GOLD
Why Dangerous: Shows relentless determination in middle-distance events. A very tough horse to shake off if he gets a clear run down the straight.
Race 8: The Gaitform Calcutta Monsoon Derby (2026) Grade II — 2000M
WIN HORSE: 1. ADMIRINGLY
Why Selected: Showed true Derby class by making up distance effortlessly against high-rated horses in trial gallops, along with a blistering 800m in 51s (winning by 6 lengths).
DANGER HORSE: 4. KNOTTY NASH
Why Dangerous: Recorded arguably the quickest raw speed trial (800m in 50s / 600m in 36s / 400m in 24.4s). A formidable threat if allowed to set a slow tempo up front.
Race 9: The Star Precision Handicap Div. I (Class IV, 21-46) — 1200M
WIN HORSE: 2. FELIX
Why Selected: A pure speedster tailor-made for the 1200m dash. Has top-tier raw acceleration to put this field away early in the straight.
DANGER HORSE: 4. CASHABAN
Why Dangerous: A powerful late-closer who benefits if the leaders engage in an early duel. Will be making up ground rapidly in the final 200 meters.
Race 10: The Star Precision Handicap Div. II (Class IV, 21-46) — 1200M
WIN HORSE: 1. LADY DON
Why Selected: Holds the sharpest finishing burst in Division II. Well-suited to the course and distance, making her the top pick to close out the card.
DANGER HORSE: 6. VALERIAN
Why Dangerous: Eye-catching sprinter poised to strike on current form. Any lapse in concentration from the favorite will allow him to capitalize.
TOPEST UPSETS OF THE DAY:
2. RINKU ROMEO (Race 4: The Tiger Tops Handicap — 1600M)
The Upset Story: Market attention will center on top-weights like Raffaello and course favorites like Timeless Fortune, leaving Rinku Romeo ignored on the betting board.
Why the Upset Can Happen:
Favorable Handicap Weight: Carries a highly competitive lower handicap weight, giving him a huge stamina advantage over 1600m against high-weighted rivals.
Tactical Versatility: Excels at sitting quietly just off a hot pace and delivering a grinding, uninterrupted run down the long home straight. If the favorites engage in an early speed duel, he is perfectly placed to swoop late at massive odds.
7. QUEEN ANULA (Race 5: The Destroyer Cup — 1400M)
The Upset Story: Form-checkers will gravitate towards Foujita and Three Little Words, viewing Queen Anula as an aging outsider who is past her peak.
Why the Upset Can Happen:
Gate-to-Wire Threat: Possesses raw early gate speed that can blow open sprint handicaps.
Track Bias Advantage: If she breaks cleanly and establishes a solo lead on the rail without pressure, Kolkata’s tight turning 1400m bend allows front-runners to steal an uncatchable break before late-closers can react.
4. KNOTTY NASH (Race 8: The Calcutta Monsoon Derby Gr. II — 2000M)
The Upset Story: Public money and derby hype will heavily back Admiringly, making Knotty Nash a huge value longshot in this feature classic.
Why the Upset Can Happen:
Derby Pace Stalker: Holds explosive natural cruising speed over middle-distance trips.
Class & Tenacity: In classic races with large fields, heavy favorites often get boxed in or caught in traffic around the final bend. If Knotty Nash dictates or tracks an easy second-flight tempo, he has the pedigree to blow past the field and pull off an unbelievable Derby upset.
HAPPY PUNTING..

I made 2 terrible observations today. Its another matter that I corrected myself after paddock looks. Still I feel ashamed of underestimating Trakila's class. I also noticed that Heart was struggling to stay a mile last race under pressure, still given it's past performances I chose it over classy Trakila who definitely has gained stamina with age now. The moment 6-1 ran poor race which ran close to Heart I changed my choice but it's my responsibility to accept my wrong observation. 2nd wrong choice was in race no. 2 where I gave over importance to no. 3 Indian Jack's past performance. Looked very rusty. I should have stucked with my 2nd choice no. 6 place. It had current form.
My choices may win or lose that's part of race , but strategy and reading shouldn't be wrong. That's why I felt like apologising.

1. This is a very weak race where anything can happen. NOBLE PURSUIT (7) Lightweight, consistent, proven at 1400-1600M. If he is fit he could score.
2. SIMRAN S ATTITUDE (1) is the class horse of the race — top rated, top form, but she carries top weight (62.5 kg) she's almost certain to be in the frame. HERMES (8) HERMES could place at longer odds
3. CAPE TIGANI (7) Lightly raced, P Trevor riding, lowest weight in the field, scope for improvement.
4. GHIRARDELLI'S (6) reliability makes him the logical winner. He's been knocking on the door all season — this looks like the race where he breaks through.
5. ENCHANTING (6) The return of Suraj Narredu is a big positive, and she has shown she can win at this level. However, the wide draw and inconsistent recent form are concerns. She'll likely be running on late.
6. MAIN STREET (5) is the stayer in the field and P Trevor's presence is a huge plus. She will be finishing strongest of all.
7. HEART (2) Progressive, in-form, top jockey, well-bred for stamina.
8. DARDANUS (3) is a solid, consistent, stamina-laden colt who will run his race. 2000m is genuine unknown, but the form says he's progressive and game. If he stays, he's 2nd or better.
9. MIDNIGHT BLUE (12) is the value play in this race. Draw 1 + light weight + early speed = dangerous front-running profile.
10. TESTSU (8) Progressive 3yo, won over this trip, in good form, top jockey and gets the nod.

Hello folks, the Derby excitement starts today, and for me, the card looks good enough to feel confident about my choices.
Have observations for just a few races today. Will skip the first two races and start my day with ROYAL MEMBER. I don't see any competition for RM today, and what makes me absolutely confident about this one is the fact that Suraj is riding, not because I'm a fan of his but because of what I see in the previous runs. The last time Suraj was on RM it was half money favourite, so clearly, Javed Khan is all out to grab this one.
The 6th race, had Mindful, Sativur, and Main Street in my initial contenders list, however Main Street is coming off a respiratory infection just about 20 days ago, and I feel it would impact his performance today, then, between Sativur and Mindful, based on course and distance performance my final choice is MINDFUL.
For the Derby I'm sure one and all would think that the race should be between the Admiringly and Shrishti duo, but there are two more who caught my eye. Saiko, no doubt has not shown anything in past runs to indicate that 2000m is well within reach, but I always consider the Razeen factor for long distance races, hence Saiko cannot be ignored, and the other one I am considering happens to be DARDANUS. Now if you look at this Derby field, it's one of the most pathetic one that we have seen in recent times, with average field rating of just 55, and even though Admiringly is on a winning spree, and with victory at the Derby distance too, and Shrishti, coming off a smart 6.5 lengths victory, over 1400m, they both can't be termed as unbeatable. If I compare the company that these runners have had runs with, as compared to that of Dardanus, I find Dardanus has performed in slightly better company, so my final choice boils down to DARDANUS.
In the 9th race had only two choices, Soleva and Cashaban, however, Soleva is a 3yo filly, carrying top weight, and I'm sure that would surely tell on her performance over the last furlong or so, hence CASHABAN happens to be a rock solid banker for me here.
The last race was quite intriguing for me, initially, purely based on raw timings I felt that the race is between Laamika and Valerian, however, deep diving further I found that Laamika had a recent respiratory infection, so that left me with Valerian as a good bet, but once again, digging further I found that, based on common runs, TETSU is about 2 lengths superior today. Tetsu won the last race carrying 58kgs and today, is 56.5kgs, I call such a situation the Handicapper's Delight.
All the best, guys. I have shared, based on my best studies, however, at the end of the day if my choices do not oblige I'm sure of at least one person waiting to bash me to smithrens, but if my choices do oblige I don't really expect any accolades, I'm used to it.

Derby day with 10 race card. Please choose your races wisely.
1) I would skip. Looks a tough race. Don't fall in trap of horse getting backed . Leaving such race is better. (2/3/6/7 any can win)
2) I like no. 3 Indian Jack for place. Class drop and a winner in same class in past. Good rider. Should try today. No. 6 is my next choice.
3) Lay no. 7 Cape Tigani. I strongly think connections should have tried this colt in a 1400 mt race again. Last time it lost to in form horse which won again after beating this horse. But a mile with class jump looks very difficult. Eat it if opens below 2/1.
4) Lay no. 7 Timeless fortune. I am surprised again that connection entered this superb horse in a wrong distance. I am not saying it can't win but for sure it will be very difficult. And if it opens favorite I am very happy to lay this horse. It never ran above 7f and never won above 6f. Let's see how it wins a mile race. I will lay it at any odds below 2/1 happily.
5) I like no. 2 Foujita for each way. The way it comes from back at cruising speed this 1400 mt race will suit it. I don't know why Trainer didn't choose stable jockey Varun even when he is available. Still I hope the horse will do it's job. Lay no. 9 Three little words if opens favorite.
6) Play no. 2 Mindful. In form horse. Up in class but others are not in their prime so Mindful can win this. No. 1 looks next best.
7) Play no. 2 Heart. Yes I saw it was fighting hard last time to win. But that was a mile race. This horse travels better the further it runs. I think Trakila is best upto a mile but 2000 mt would suit Heart more. Play heart and just leave a very tiny amount on horse no. 4 Cashius Gold. It used to be my follow horse in past when it was called Magneto. Very good stayer. But lost it's form after setback. It may run last as well no harm putting 5% of your investment at 20/1 or 30/1.
8) Lay no. 1 Admiringly..why play any horse if you get a donkey to lay at small price. Lay Admiringly and enjoy the better horse winning it. I know Shrishti looks strong but I am happy laying no. 1 at any odds below 2/1. If it opens above 2/1 then I would skip.
9) Play no. 1 Soleva. Hope bookies be generous and give good odds. Should win comfortably. No. 10 Sultana can try for place.
10) Play no. 4 Lamika place. Won class 5 same distance, finished third in current class but ran a forward race and now back to to 6f should suit. There are couple of good horses so just play place.

( 1, 7 surprise horses )
Race 1 is full of googlies, just like today’s Pune 1st race. But yes, a few HAMMERED the race, and many got HAMMERED from the 1st race itself.
Same goes here.
Debutant Olaf as of now, I am keeping him aside because of the 1st run. But seeing his track work and the runners he ran with, they are all top contenders. Again, the 1st run is the question mark. Odds will give some clarity. But even if I declare him in the top 3, I still have 2 spots remaining.
Then comes the next googly, Noble Pursuit. The race card is giving this horse as the 1st selection, coming from a 1-year layoff. Don’t know the hidden preparation.
Then comes the remaining ones, where I myself got a googly because No Worry (2) came with top timings but ratings bit less and Cristaldo (8) I am not liking, but it came with a top rating and next-choice timings.
So I mentioned, Race 1 is very googly-like, just like today’s Pune 1st race.
Anyhow, I overcame today’s googly and hit a SIX by selecting High Ground at g8ood place value.
Now let’s try to overcome the Kolkata 1st race googly!
FINAL CALL
If Olaf hits the board, no surprise. My bad luck not to keep him in my pick.
If Noble Pursuit comes and hits the board, again my bad luck for not keeping him in my pick.
Now No Worry (2) and Cristaldo (8) are left, and I will go with No Worry (2), keeping a small edge from the jockey.
Also, this set I kept as a reference for 1200 metres and then scaled it to the actual distance of 1600 metres.
NO WORRY (2)
Win: 5 units at any odds
HAMMER on Place: 25 units at any odds starting from 50 paisa to any odds )
1st race and Class V... no need to go heavy another 9 game changing races we got...
That’s all, people.
LET’S HAMMER OR GET HAMMERED!

@ V Vyas,
Of late, it's presentations from people like you, Passion & Patience, Lone Wolf and Godolphin that keep this HT platform alive.
The unique manner in which you all study the card and help us understand certain nuances before making the final call deserves lot of appreciations.
While on one side, we find very boring remarks like 'AK47 should win' and '5 units win hammer, 95 units place hammer', you foursome and a few more like 'Transparency' and 'Arun Boxy', have been enlivening the proceedings here, and truly coming to our rescue on several occasions.
Please continue with this selfless service as much as possible and make the sport more and more thrlling by infusing fresh life into it through your innovative writings.
God bless.
