MAHOGANY 

I really had no idea 2-2 will open favorite. That's the reason I tipped to play place. If I liked it for win I would have said each way or win. It finished just 2 lenghths ahead of no. 8 in last race even when no. 8 travelled wide, today 8 was 1 kg better as well, still no. 2 was traveling better and I was sure this horse has better class than 8 so I tipped it for place. If I had any idea it would be favorite I would have tipped no. 8 place. Which I eventually played. 

This is my request to the admin please give probable odds of Hyderabad as well like you give for Pune and other centre. I don't trust odds of any other websites. It becomes very difficult to tip lay bet and place bet on few horses whom we expect to open favorite and tip to lay and then we see they opened 4/1 or 5/1. Similarly we tip for place and they open even money. It's a request to India race management please provide us probable odds from reliable sources. In the ring things can change but at least we have an idea.

1. GOLDEN AURA (2) is one of the more reliable types in this weak field. He drops in class, gets weight relief, and has shown he can stay 1400m–1800m, each?way claims are strong. Likely to be in the finish line

2. RANI RUCKUS (7) – Won impressively last time out, coming from off the pace. The step up to 1600m looks ideal, and she carries a manageable weight. She appears to be the one with the most upside. SUNNY DAY (2) Showed improvement in his last two starts, finishing 3rd over this exact trip on last run. Has a decent chance, Weight is a concern but jockey is capable. 

3. PERCEPTION (4) is the most likely winner. He has the form, the weight advantage, the jockey, and the distance. STAR OF NIGHT (2) is the "x-factor" horse. Her form says no. Her jockey says yes. The trip change says maybe. Small lottery bet if decent odds. 

4. ONSLAUGHT (7) He is a strong place candidate with a live outsider's win chance. The 1800M trip unknown, but his finishing style suggests he'll be even stronger at 1800M. 

5. WALKING THUNDER (4) is the each-way bet of the race. 1200m is clearly his optimum trip. If Trevor can settle him just off the leaders and produce him turning for home, he's a strong each-way chance.

Adding on to my points about the Derby, somehow didn't notice Alexios, and the reason is that when I study any Derby card I usually initially ignore ones that have run in handicap races, especially in class IV, hence ignored, but based on the line of company he has run with - Dartagnan and Lady Scarlet - surely can't ignore Alexios, but having said that I am still strong on Garfunkle.

Am pretty strong on PERCEPTION and EK today. As regards Ek, in race 44, had an excellent timing, which is comparable to class I Ashoka.

 DERBY — An Interesting Fact

In my entire racing experience ( 6 years more or less ) till today, I have never got a win in a Derby race with my selection! 

Why?

Because Derby horses are 3-year-olds, and most of the time I exclude them from my strongest handicapping process. My strength is analysing horses with enough race data, performance history, class, timings and consistency.

But today, let’s see… 

Can Moonveil finally break the Derby curse for me? Haha

Hello folks, hope you guys had a profitable day yesterday. As for me, it was a great day as almost everything that I predicted came up trumps. I had updated a very meaningful post yesterday, one that would have helped many in deciding what to play, and what to avoid, however unfortunately the admin here decided to update it well after the races were over, anyways, a punter/tipster is only as good as the results are on a particular day, and cannot live on past laurels, so let's see how it pans out for me today.

As of now just posting my observations for the Derby. My choice happens to be GARFUNKLE. The dam line shows up Trevalius, who reached a rating of 116, but surprisingly had just one career victory, well, some horses are born in the wrong year, I'd say, because no matter how good they are there happens to be someone better, race after race, and you keep playing the role of bridesmaid. Having said that I also noticed a couple of the dam's progenies who have won over the Derby distance, so 2000m is well within Garfunkle's reach.

Talking about the other runners, it's only Moonveil that I can think of that could challenge Garfunkle, and once again, I say that based on pedigree numbers.

Just like yesterday, wherein I mentioned that I never ignore any runner that have the Razeen influence - and Saiko did win - today too, there is a runner with the Razeen factor, and that's Digital Empress, however I don't consider her today purely based on jockey factor, no doubt Afroz is good, but I don't think he has the temperament to win the Derby.

Madante, I feel will feel his legs at the mile mark. None of the dam's progenies have won over 1400m, and going three furlongs more is a herculean task, I would say.

Finally, as regards Mahogany all I would say is that, knowing Pesi's style, I don't think he fancies this one. What I have observed about Pesi is that he never races any runner he has high hopes on in handicap races, and Mahogany ran a class IV race, so that's a huge no-no for me. Secondly, for any prestigious long distance race he never goes in with just one runner, he has at least another one, to be the pace setter, so that's another point to be noted.

All said and done, GARFUNKLE is the one they all have to beat, followed by Moonveil and for third spot, I'd say, Digital Empress can place at long odds.

Race 2- No. 2 SUNNY DAY

The most reliable and battle-tested contender in this Class IV field over 1600m. He enters with strong morning trackwork, proven distance capability, and none of the severe lameness or starting gate issues that plague his rivals.  

Race 3- NO 4. PERCEPTION 

Guided by top jockey Akshay Kumar at a razor-light 51 kg, this 1600m specialist is primed for a huge performance. With a proven winning distance record and peak morning fitness, expect a explosive finish down the home stretch! 

Race 4- No. 7 ONSLAUGHT

holds the highest mathematical advantage in this field. Carried weight plays a decisive role over middle distances, and receiving a 6 kg weight advantage from the top-rated runner Pledge gives Onslaught a critical stamina edge in the closing stages.

Race 5- No. 11 STATE MAN

Expect No. 9 AYUSHMAN to burst out early and set a fast pace. No. 3 HIGH SPEED DIVE will press close behind, setting up a strong, honest tempo. This dynamic favors No. 11 STATE MAN, who can sit off the lead and use its light weight to pounce late in the final furlong.

primed to rebound. Cutting down to an 1100m sprint carrying just 57.50kg net weight gives her the clear edge over key rivals. 

Race 7- 1. ALEXIOS

The clear benchmark out of Western India. Brings high-class Mumbai and Pune form into the race along with blistering trackwork metrics (800m in 50.0s). Carries standard terms weight of 56.0 kg and gets a ground-saving run from Gate 2 under Antony Raj S. The primary candidate to beat.

Race 8- 1. DONTBLOCKMYWAY

Striking form at the right time, makes him the standout contender to take top honors.

1) BEAST MASTER as a 3yo ran a good 2nd over a 1200m trip, finishing ahead of FOXY GIRL, who is currently running in class III. Over the mile trip, it ran within 5 lengths to CORTA MADERA, now running in class II. Again over the mile trip, it ran close to PRIDE ASIDE, LA FLEURIERE, VALLEDONNA etc. Running over 7 furlongs on Derby day, where every race is a trophy race, it is as good a time as any for the trainer to flick the switch. If by any chance it is not the favorite and you are in the habit of saying grace, then you can also add, ' ... and thank you for the false favorite so that we can eat it, and for the nourishing odds on BEAST MASTER so that we can play it.'

2) ONLY MY WAY is a proper miler. When it was with the late trainer LD SILVA, carrying 60kgs, it won by 8.5 lengths over the mile. Has run into board last time out and the trainer MF ALI KHAN is utilizing the services of jockey SONU KUMAR, a useful apprentice claiming 3.5kgs allowance. Should make it a start to finish affair. 

3) PERCEPTION is the most improved horse in this bunch, so much so that it came within 5 lengths of PROKOFIEV over the 2000m trip. STAR OF NIGHT the more fancied runner finished another 3 lengths behind PERCEPTION. Over the mile, the other runners might find PERCEPTION a tough nut to crack.

4) Whenever PLEDGE carried 56 kgs or less, it won, except on debut and another occasion when it was tardily off, but came flying to finish in the photo. On the two occasions it carried 62,5kgs, it was beaten to 3rd. That begs the question whether the 60kgs weight could be a stopper. PRISTINE GLORY has the advantage of the pull in weights of 6.5kgs to threaten PLEDGE, but was slowly off last time. Under the circumstances a place bet on ONE NATION seems like the best option. 

5) STAR OF OPERA is a strong specimen over the sprint trip. With 54.5kgs on its back and most of that weight being in the form of AKSHAY KUMAR, should have the beating of this field. 

6) A no whip race and you might expect the trainers to reduce the burden by going in for an apprentice, atleast for those in the top half of the card, like say, SEE THE LIGHT. In the case of EK, in the bottom half of the draw, carrying 53.5kgs, weight might not be the issue and the trainer prefers a strong rider like AKSHAY KUMAR. Now in race no.44, carrying 61.5kgs EK finished 2nd, 3.5 lengths behind FLYING FURY who was carrying 61kgs. On promotion, FLYING FURY finished in a photo, but the impressive runner was DUBAI TOUCH, who carrying 60kgs with MS DEORA astride, finished within 2 lengths of FLYING FURY who was carrying 54kgs. In its next run, DUBAI TOUCH was drawn 15 and at longer odds as an also ran did reasonably well. Drawn 2 and with the services of 3.5kg allowance claiming apprentice SONU KUMAR, I would consider it an each way chance at longer odds.

7) MADANTE should have won the fillies, but for a terrible ride by jockey AKSHAY KUMAR. Trainer has changed the jockey but to tackle the extra 2 furlongs, not enough preparation it seems. The chances of MADANTE could be hamstrung as I feel it's a bit underdone. It's as if the trainer is still contemplating what could have been and is hoping that the pedigree carries it across, but there is not much information about the pedigree either. Usually it helps those horses which have gone over the derby trip. In the Bangalore derby, MOONVEIL finished 4th to D'ARTAGNAN and VORTEX finished 6th nearly 1length behind MOONVEIL. In the fillies VORTEX finished 3rd nearly 1 length behind the winner MOONVEIL. So you could say that form was holding good. But after the derby run at Bangalore, VORTEX went to Pune and carrying 4.5kgs less was hard pressed to beat ALEXIOS, and the latter went on to win over a 2000m trip. ALEXIOS has also finished closer to D'ARTAGNAN than MOONVEIL. Twisted logic? Not taking anything away from anybody, but ALEXIOS looks like a good place prospect especially as the odds might go a bit wide on it.

8) EXCALIBUR is the horse to beat, but if the trainer DESHMUKH doesn't win the derby, question is whether he will be in the right frame of mind for this race or will he be still swallowing bitter pill? Alternatively if the Jockey ANTONY RAJ wins the derby, he will be in the zone and go for a double irrespective of what the trainer is feeling. MY HONEY might occupy the 2nd spot and that leaves us with one spot for place. DONTBLOCKMYWAY won by 8 long lengths last year over the same trip in class IV, with jockey SONU KUMAR astride. Recently in a class III sprint, albeit aiming for a demotion, finished within 6 lengths of CATCH THE WORM. As a demotee, SONU KUMAR gets the ride and if the trainer wins on ONLY MY WAY, DONTBLOCKMYWAY is a very good place proposition.
