''buddy's Butchering Follows 'saiko's Shock !

By Fishing Foal | 04-Oct-2026

If Saiko came to give the first Derby shock at Kolkata yesterday, it's the turn of 'Buddy' to 'bury the punters alive' today in Hyderabad. So, what's in store for the beleaguered racegoers for next Sunday (for Pune Derby)?

It's not that upsets should not happen in horse racing, but a 'Buddy' doing the trick seems incredible. If one goes through the probable names discussed to lift the Derby today, you are not going to find 'Buddy' anywhere. This remembers me of C Krishnan winning on MAM's 'Native Chieftan' in Bangalore several years before.

If this is going to be the trend for Classics, we must stop attending Classic races and better focus on Class V where the upsets are not this much cruel.

I am a punter since 1973 & am from mysore.i would like to share a few points.Saiko beat Admiringly in her second start.she was tracking well.Trainers try their horses in big events. About Buddy , it finished strongly from 6th position in colts stakes.Gurfunkle finished second in that race.people fancied Suraj because he is a champion jockey.people most times fancy horses on odds. There is a saying Don't look at odds fancy according to your  merit. Thanks for this opportunity  to share my views

That's very true, should focus on only class races

Term races are very dangerous

I m also in a state of shock that this animal won by 2 lengths a second less than the record timings.

But FYI... This not the first Hyd Derby that a outsider has won at this crazy odds. To name a few.

Consigliori - 50/1

Royal Crystal - 13/1

Arkadian - 50/1

The list may just keep adding

In a crowded field many might not get a clear passage even though there were better horses. Only if Akshay had done justice to Madante his mount would have been retained and would not have ended up riding the last comer of the race.

Obviously none of the horses seen in both the derbies are stayers. Amore mio was not a stayer nor is the dam and sire of buddy. Buddy won on tactics taken to the front at a moderate pace just did enough to stay in front till the end. Look elsewhere for a proper stayer for the Indian derby. The picture will be more clearer after the pune derby this weekend.

Racing is fundamentally an entertainment business funded by punters who pay for the thrill, not a realistic path to making a living.

it's expensive, often corrupt, cruel to horses, addictive, and most punters lose. So it's not even good entertainment.

GARFANKLE and BUDDY have run together in all the three of their previous runs , very nearer to each other, so I thought GARFANKLE is superior to BUDDY and played GARFANKLE win and thought BUDDY can follow and played place at 8 to 1

GARFANKLE disappointed me but I recovered loss from place odds of BUDDY
