Jaandar Or The Beast For Pune Derby?

By Jhonnycomelately | 04-Oct-2026

Is Pesi running Jaandar into the ground at trackwork.... preparing for Beast Mode ? These are the two real contenders and it is going to be an interesting battle royale in the Pune Derby and for becoming the first fav for the Indian Derby?  My choice is on Jaandar but the way he is being worked hard I am not so sure - what do you all think? Pesi should ease off a bit?

I think Pesi should ease off a little now. Jaandaar has already shown what he can do on the track, and at this stage recovery may be just as important as hard work. If Beast Mode is the other serious contender, the Pune Derby could be a fantastic battle. Jaandaar is my choice too, but I’d rather see him arrive fresh than overworked.

@sankar. For the horse to win a race it first needs to be entered in it, then accepted and finally declared to run. Then it may win. your choice falters at the first step itself. pune derby is considered jinx hence the top horses skip it.

Margaretta and Dartagnan won in bangalore because they had run advantages over the banglore horses where racing opened late so I would discount their performance. All Mumbai horses did well in Bangalore across the board because of that. Jaandar and BM are genuine contenders for the derby but the advantage lies with the beast as he has gone the distance and smartly tested in a low stakes race  while Jaandar has not and stuck to a mile and winning higher stakes - but Pesi knows best and it all depends on who is riding too Those two horses will finish 5-7 lengths in front of the other 4 for sure based on the way they have won 7-8 races amongst them. It could be a great rivalry all the way into the classics this winter. Pesi has some very good youngsters but it only takes one rebel to upset the cause! My money is on the beast but watch out for Iron Mirage from Prasanna's yard. I don't think Pesi working the horse too much is a big deal with so many good horses and owners he can afford to make or break them.

Beast mode opposition was ordinary, it's true potential will be tested under pressure.. jaandar and beast mode are from the same owner..
