b c RUNNING HAND, a declared starter in the above race, was examined by the Veterinary Officer on the morning of Saturday, 25th November, 2017 and found to be lame on left hind. Under the circumstances the colt was permitted to be withdrawn on veterinary grounds. Tr. J E Mckeown was informed not to accept with his charge until certified fit by the Veterinary Officer. JUPITER (App Nikhil Naidu) was extremely fractious while being stalled. In view of its behaviour Tr. Vikash Jaiswal was advised not to accept with his charge until shown to the satisfaction of the Starter in a barrier trial during the hours of morning track work. THE BIG BULL (Jugnu Gurung), SUMMERHILL (Arshad Alam) and MAJESTIC (App Ranidan Singh) were slow to begin. Tr. Patrick Quinn and Jockey S John were interviewed regarding the running and riding of b c APALACHEE in the race. The Jockey stated that he was instructed to place his mount in a favourable position and give the colt every chance. However his mount was not galloping at any stage of the race despite his best efforts. Tr. Patrick Quinn when queried stated that he could give no plausible explanation for the poor performance except that it had performed well when running over distances of 1100 metres and 1200 metres and was now running over 1400 metres. Their explanations were noted. When given an opportunity to explain the improved performance of his charge SUMMER HILL as compared to its previous run in Race No. 118 of the just concluded Calcutta Monsoon Meeting 2017, Tr. Patrick Quinn stated that the gelding which had run on two occasions during that season, had bled from its nostrils on the first occasion. Subsequently in its 2nd race i.e., in Race No. 118 when allowed to run after passing a veterinary test it had performed poorly. However, with the change of the track conditions and further improvement in the gelding’s medical condition it performed well. He further stated that the gelding was not at all fancied by the stable. His explanations were noted. The Veterinary Officer reported that CITY HEIGHTS returned with a cut injury on right fore. |
